In the meantime, F1 has started free practice again. It won't be much different from the previous races. That means it will normally be between Ferrari and Red Bull. I wanted to write between Leclerc and Verstappen, but Perez can also come along nicely and won the last grand prix in Monaco. I think Verstappen has the best papers for the world championship, but there are still a lot of rounds to race. It would be nice for the sport if Leclerc also wins something so that it remains exciting.

This kind a track is an advantege for fast car in long straight then the red bull should be enormously favored.
Ferrari is a car that goes fast on track types where a lot of traction is required in slow corners.

Today we saw some favorable times for ferrari but I think Max and Perez are in hiding.

Verstappen gave a spin and I can say he was lucky that he had a short time in the training laps. Turn 15 of the track is very difficult here, drivers need to be careful, accidents can happen on this track. The riders are having some trouble due to the bounce problem and the wind on the runway.

Ferrari and Redbull teams finished the first training rounds in the top four.
The whole talent of Max comes from him racing to the absolute limits. The whole "if you see an opening and you do not take it, it is time to retire from racing" is still ingrained in his mind. Which means that, if it is going to be a crash, it is going to be a crash, if it is going to be a spin then let it spin. This dude will not refrain from anything, and take all the risks. Do not get me wrong, all the other drivers are still in 300 km per hour machines with barely few things that keeps them safe, in cars that splits in two for safety for real, so they are brave too.

It is just that Max is just a bit more "careless" which makes him that slight split second faster in important places or make him crash.

Well the first two free practice ended, i really i was not expecting such a big difference between top teams and middle teams.

Another bad race ahead for Mercedes seems with the free practice data. Red Bull its really strong , Ferrari again with problems in his engine.

Some news we cant forget its some teams are pushing to elevate the "budget roof" because they have so many spends already do.

One of this teams clearly its HAAS, and with this i remember one comment of mine what say Mick Schumacher needs to stop destroying his car.

I think we cant change the rules in the middle of the season.
Yeah, I heard about teams having troubles with this new budget roof being imposed this season.
And drivers having a low salary cap? Seen something that Max was arguing about this being the case of not the best drivers get paid the way they should.
It all depends on the team that they land with I would imagine.

Who do you think gets paid more for just driving (not including sponsorships and commercial deals) being on which team:
Lewis for Merc, Max for R.B or Leclerc being on team red?

Right, so I've put my picks in. Don't even really know why I toiled and pained, in the end I think this will be another Verstappen masterclass: pole, fastest lap, and win. I know Ferrari seems to have the advantage but it's still a new track technically and the Dutch guy's more natural in the semi-unknown is my bet.

Be really glad to have the race go other ways, Sainz or LeClerc, proving me wrong would be awesome.

And yes, I've gone again with Tsunoda for a points placing.

The track had changed from when it was first introduced to the F1 circuit. Baku has a castle for crying out loud along the track.
Ferrari seem to have an advantage on this track according to this youtube video I watched explaining alot about the track and how it differs from many of the others in terms of a 90 degree turn which I don't think any of the other tracks have.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmeGFVCdq2k

Very well done video to watch before getting ready for the practice races coming up later this week so to familiarize yourselves with what to expect from this race.
People like Vettel and Max and Hamilton has a bit more advantage during the Baku race. The difference is that they are fierce and aggressive racers that do not only rely on talent but also take risks that are like inch to the side and you are done. Obviously Vettel will do probably nothing this race, wouldn't really matter to the top, and it is unlikely that Hamilton would matter neither, possible but unlikely.

This leaves Max there, so if Max races like crazy again, and takes all the risks and every part of the available track, then he will have an easy win. But if something unexpected happens and his risk doesn't pay off, he could crash out and Charles could still win.

The 8th stage of the race in Baku may be interesting because the track in this city runs along the seaside boulevard.  This is also a city track.  But it is not the same as in Monaco.
Another interesting fact: the speed record on this track (which has existed since 2016) was set by Leclerc in 2019. So he knows this track very well.  And he knows how to maneuver there for optimal results.
I think he has a chance to catch up with Max on points.
I would like the Verstappen-Leclerc intrigue to continue this season. Smiley

Interesting video I just watched on The Inside Line and pretty robotic sounding voice but very informative on the F1/Indy car circuit being a racing news channel.
Here is the latest video talking about how Daniel can only exit McLaren if he chooses too since it is in his contract with the exit clause put in place.
Very interesting situation he put himself in and how this plays out for Mr. Ricciardo:

Leclerc is looking like the favorite for this one according to the odds being in his favor coming off the loss to Verstappen.
For some reason Leclerc has been looking like the favorite for many races so far, and Max proven people wrong many times in a row as well. It is not always Max being awesome or anything, look at Monaco, that was a period when Max didn't do anything exceptional at all, he raced like how he should and nothing more, but the staff of ferrari made sure that Charles was still behind.

So, it is not always Max vs Charles neither, it is sometimes about Red Bull vs Ferrari as well, even with the same exact stock car given, sometimes teams could make mistakes, and this is why I believe that Baku will not be that simple for Charles. Plus Max is very good there as well.
Agree with everything you stated in the above post.
Leclerc even being the favorite driver in all the Ps and Qualification that will certainly change is my early prediction becaues as you just said: Max does very well on the track in Baku.
His car was built for this track and has been very dominant on it in races past.

Red Bull had a structure in the past that was letting the in-team competition all the way. For example, Vettel and Webber crashed into each other while they were the first and the second in the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix. I still think that this is the right thing. But as of Max's arrival in the team, they started to focus fully on making him the champion. The biggest reason of Daniel Ricciardo's leaving the team was this too.
Ah yeah makes sense. Same thing happened to another driver and his teammate where they took each other out while they were near the end of the race in first and second place.
As with Daniel Ricciardo it doesn't look like he is impressing McLaren anymore with his driving skills.
As there has been some talk they might be replacing him on the team. Midseason doesn't seem a logical thing to do.
Or am I watching way too many videos on youtube about F1 lately waiting for the next race to begin in Azerbaijan?

One thing that nobody is commenting on is that in Spain there were team orders from REdBull for Checho Perez to let Max Verstappen pass, but if Checho Perez had not let max pass and had won the race, today he would be the leader of the world of pilots

Terrible on the part of Redbull to start so early with the team orders and not let them compete.
Whenever team orders happen, they just nauseate me. It is still remembered how Rubens Barrichello yielded his position to Schumacher approximately 20 years ago. Besides, I think having this kind of incidents at the beginning of the season can harm the team in the long term. For example, we need to think about whether Checo would have the same willingness to defend another driver in case Max needs it.
I have always seen Max as the main driver who should be looked to for a place on the podium, no matter at what cost to Red Bull.
That is just how his attitude is: At any means necessary.
Checo is just his defense at the back to block the other drivers from over taking him at the final few laps.
That's how I see the team's of other F1 operate. It's just how the pecking order of formula 1 is.
Perez is Max's wingman and should make way for the one who higher up on the leaderboard with the points.

I actually did see something about Verstappen being vocal about something that happened at Monaco but didn't know what it was about until you mentioned it.
Of course he would be insanely mad if Perez didn't listen to team orders. Red bull better be careful or they could be creating a barrier between their two drivers which can cost them the remaining races as there are alot left in the season minus the one due to FIA having it cancelled.
