I haven't read through much of this thread and without reading can someone outside of the US post what they think of the US's chance to get out of theor group is.  England, a tough Iran team and now Wales.   Seems like an insanely tough group to me.  Wondering what people's opinion are of the group that are outside of the US.

Fifa just shattered Chile dreams of playing worldcup 2022. I think it's not a wise move by Chile football to approach fifa for banning Ecuador. They must compete on football pitch not in court rooms for playing the football World Cup. Clearly this is something beyond sportsmanship.

If Chile want to play in the world cup, then they could have performed better in the CONMEBOL qualifiers. They finished at the 7th place, behind Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. Chile managed to win just 5 out of their total 18 qualifier matches. I wish them better luck for next year, but the baseless allegations related to Byron Castillo were not necessary and it adds further controversy to an already controversial world cup. Already there is a lot of debate going on regarding the deaths of thousands of workers during construction of stadiums in Qatar.

So it looks like Ecuador might be removed from the world cup and replaced by Chile.

Apparently Ecuador's player, Byron Castillo, is actually Colombian  Huh

FIFA has been investigating this for months, and will make their official decision this Friday 10 June 2022.

If Ecuador is banned from the competition, Chile will take its place.

It seems that the mountain gave birth to a mouse and the Chile national team will still not be able to get to the World Cup through the back door. The national team of Ecuador can exhale and continue to prepare for the World Cup. FIFA conducted an official investigation and rejected Chile's protest against the allegedly forged documents of Ecuador national team player Byron Castillo. However, the reasoning part of the decision has not been published and the parties will still have ten days to appeal against the decision. By the way, the fact that a player was born in Colombia, in theory, should not greatly interfere with obtaining Ecuadorian citizenship, unless he has already played for the Colombian national team.

It is not that simple. The allegation is that the player (Byron David Castillo Segura) doesn't hold a valid Ecuadorian passport. Chile alleged that he is actually a Colombian citizen and had lied about his nationality and date of birth. It is not against FIFA laws, for a player to represent a country in which he was not born (he needs a passport still, after naturalization). But the player becomes ineligible, in case he lies about these. Anyway, we can set aside these issues for now, as the FIFA investigation didn't found any discrepancies.

On average, Europe has the best football countries in the world. At least continental. South America also has a few good countries, but the selection has thinned out a bit in recent years. Brazil is good every year, Argentina is a close second, but Argentina lacks the connection with the real world top. Brazil is clearly above that. There are other continents that are also allowed to delegate countries, will have to do with rules. Countries from Asia have little or nothing to do with a World Cup from a sporting point of view.

FIFA World cup 2022 will be interesting. It will be like a thug of war. Just that my favourite club, Nigerian
Super Eagle has been nocked out in the Qatar qualifiers stage. But i am still hoping to support another club (Country) in the tournament. Preferably, African club, but what I am afraid of is the referees. World cup referees are not friendly with the African Teams. That not withstanding, fair play can bring out the best in the world cup. European clubs, Asian clubs and African clubs are my prediction to win the world cup.
On your own prediction, whom do you think will win the tournament and carry the Golden Cup? Remember every country's plan is to win the world cup tournament but not every team will win and the three (3) best will be selected. And that should be:

1st winner
2nd winner and
3rd Winner.

Say your mind.
Yeah, I also agree with you that European clubs, Asia clubs and African clubs would win because in the past FIFA would cup played, those three clubs mentioned above always try their possible best to come out with a result and they also maintain good standards they are strong I believe European clubs, Asia clubs and African clubs would win and just as you have said they will come out first, second third, but I can not predict or even boldly say the one who would come first, second, or third. But I know these three clubs would do something interesting during the FIFA world cup 2022.
It's just that super Eagles has been nocked out during the Qatar qualifiers stage, I would have hoped that they will win but unfortunately they are no longer among.

When I see the odds at the bookmakers, there are 3 countries that stand out just a bit above and have a chance to become world champions. Still, I think countries such as the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium are certainly not much less than France and Brazil. Brazil's last world title dates back to 2002, so why are they always favorites? I think France is rightly named as a favorite, given the current crop and especially the presence of Mbappe. The Netherlands rolled over Belgium 1-4 last week and played a bad European Championship. With Van Gaal they may have the best coach of the World Cup.

I think that a player like CR7 has a difficult substitution, however I think he could do well if he is up to the task, in any case CR7 should be replaced due to his performance, this is so similar to what happens with Messi, at some point some player has to replace him, not everything is forever, I think many things could happen, CR7 is a player who has no bad intentions and just as Figo did with him, he can do with Félix, with that everything depends on what things are getting better and better for Portugal.Portugal has a replacement generation and they can give their all to have an even better team than the current one.

Even though he is the focus and on the other hand he is also a senior player and captain in Portugal but still like you said sometimes things also have to change and he doesn't have to be a reference even if you see this player it seems he really doesn't like to be replaced .
The problem for the Portugal squad now seems that even the coaches are following the words of Ronaldo which makes this difficult Cheesy

Can Félix handle the pressure and fill Ronaldo's position in Portugal team?
Yes, Felix can. He already has the best mentor It reminds me of a time when Ronaldo himself was a rising young talent and was training with the legendary Figo.

What do you think about these winning probabilities?
For me, I think England has a high probability of winning it as long as their defence dosent crumble like it did aganist Italy in the Euro final.

Well , for me , this will be the first World Cup that will be held during the Winter and I must say that it will be an unique experience for almost everyone as Fifa is doing this for first time. Now ...favorites ? Well, you might find this funny or not true but I don't like Messi at all but I support Argentina national whenever they play with Messi becoming my favorite haha. Why ? Well I think it all started when I was young and won on Fifa 2004 a local tournament with players a lot more experienced and older than me and got around 20 euro and gave it to my mom ...it was all due to Argentina massive team even since then so yea , my favorite will always be Argentina when they play World Cup.

It true that this World Cup will kick off in November in Qatar. AFAIK, the winter in Gulf countries are never extreme. You cant say winter in Qatar are as extreme as they are in Europe or rest of the world. We can say it will be a moderate temperature in November. I too siding with Argentina ever since I started following football, prime reason is there versatile playing strategy aka short passes.

When i look at the teams, i see England as the favorite among the options. Germany and Spain no longer have their former performance. Portugal is not yet a team at the level to be champions. CR7 is an excellent football player. They have him. But still not enough to be a champion. By the way, my favorite will always be France in tournaments like this. i enjoy watching them.
Portugal is not what it used to be like before,  sometimes ago Portugal is a one of the best teams in world cup, but the team is lacking the strength they used to possess.  Christiano Ronaldo is only the sure player in Portugal right now and his age right now can also be a barrier to his performance in the team.

I saw Belgium ranked #1 on a rankings site, is that correct ?  I see they had some success but I presume forthcoming games will correct these rankings quite alot.  The odds favor Netherlands over Belgium in their next game which is  what I would guess also but with Netherlands ranked 10 maybe these arent so accurate at the moment.
Heat could be a major factor in this next world cup, the experience and familiarity of players ability to adapt to different circumstances could determine games.

Personally, I don’t think those results mean anything.
Most of the top footballers from Croatia, France, Belgium ... had a very difficult season and they are very tired and not ready for this competition.
Realistically, it is an irrelevant competition and coaches mostly use it to give young players the opportunity to play and to prove that they can replace older players, such as Dalic, the Croatian coach, did in the match between Croatia and Austria.
All those national teams and players will be completely ready when the World Cup comes.
I see your points, however, normally the World Cup would be starting in 1-2 weeks. Now this year it is exceptional with the November/December schedule, however, do you think that the players will be less tired and more ready then? It will be in the middle of the new season and players might not have their heads clear for a World Cup.
Of course the Nations League is not a huge or prestigeous tournament, but argueably it is quite bit above the level of just friendly games.

As a second place,  I will have to choose Belgium but after what I saw from them with Netherlands ...well...I have big doubts. Also , a lot of important players had a very long season this year and I'm afraid they won't get the necessary time to fully recover until next season being and also until November to be in full force... .

LOL.. everyone was posting about France winning the world cup this time in Qatar.. and BOOM!.. they went down against Danmark. And the funny thing is that France was leading 1-0 (Karim Benzema scored the goal in 51st minute of play), and then conceded two goals (Andreas Cornelius) later to lose the match. In the end, Danmark won, despite the fact that France had 60% of the possession and 3x more shots. Anyway, they have three more fixtures this month in the nations league. The opponents are Croatia and Austria.

The competition level in fifa World Cup is way ahead of friendly and league matches. I do agree that results of Natioanl leagues won't matter to extent that on there basis we can predict World Cup results. From EU side, my prediction is that only Germany has the ability to reach final.

Did somebody follow the Nations League in Europe? There were some interesting games of teams of the World Cup. Many of the suffered surprising defeats, looks like they are not in form yet, good that the World Cup only starts in November and there still is some time for imporvements Wink
Croatia vs Austria 0-3: Austria is not qualified. Croatia had to suffer their first defeat against them.
France vs Denmark 1-2: Those two are in the same World Cup group and France is one of the favorites, but they had to suffer a defeat against Denmark
Belgium vs Netherlands 1-4: Belgium is rank 2 of the FIFA ranking, quite a high defeat for them
Spain vs Portugal 1-1: Always an interesting duel. Ronaldo only played the last 30minutes
Czech Rep vs Switzerland 2-1: The Czech Rep is not qualified, but Switzerland is.

Personally, I don’t think those results mean anything.

From the EU side I would say Germany has most chances of playing final. Brazil and Argentina are my favorite for this worldcup. Its heartbreaking to see Messi in action in his last fifa worldcup. I wanna see Argentina lifting this worldcup, that will be best farewell to world's best footballer aka Messi.
