Although Qatar is a Muslim country, a large part of its GDP comes from tourism. And so they do a lot of religiously forbidden work to attract European tourists. And so Qatar cannot be compared to other Muslim countries. Countries like Pakistan, Turkey and Indonesia observe their religious restrictions fairly well.

I disagree with you there. Qatar is not dependent on tourism. A large majority of their revenues come from the exports of LNG. And as far as I know, they are the leading exporter of LNG in the world. Some of the gulf nations are defendant on tourism. One example is that of the United Arab Emirates. But Qatar doesn't have any such restrictions and that is one of the reasons why they haven't fully legalized alcohol. On top of that, the ruling family of Qatar is much more conservative when compared to the ones in neighboring nations.

Qatar is difficult to compare with other countries. It may be known to the general public for its wealth, but there is also a lot of poverty. Those images are of course not quickly shown to the outside world. I think that the football players in December will also get little or nothing from it. It was a very unfortunate choice to hold the World Cup there. However, there are advantages, a large crowd in that country is looking forward to the World Cup. And the home crowd will also be cheering Qatar on at their matches.

Qatar is a Muslim country and no alcohol is consumed there because Allah does not allow it... Much less gamble, smoke ganja or use prostitutes... Most likely this will all be provided illegally... So the prices will be very high because in Muslim countries illegal things are very risky... But anyway, a $12 beer is overpriced! Grin
These rules are only for poor people. I have heard about rich Arab sheikhs partying in places such as France and Macau, using drugs and alcohol without any limit. But at the same time, these guys will behead anyone who indulge in such behavior back home. I consider Turkey as an ideal Muslim majority nation. Alcohol, gambling, as well as prostitution are legal there. They know how to balance between religious restrictions and modernity. And that may be the reason that they are one of the most advanced Muslim countries in the world at this point.

LOL.... a pint of beer for $12 sounds so cool.  Grin

Anyway, I can understand their point of view. Qataris spent billions of USD in bribing the poor nations for hosting rights. Obviously they are concerned about the ROI. On top of all that, there are no distilleries or breweries in Qatar and they need to import the drinks from other countries. BTW, are they going to legalize other recreational activities such as gambling, smoking weed.etc?
Gambling and alcohol should be fine at some degree, but doing drugs is a more serious matter, with risks for individuals involved on this kind of activity to be taken to the death sentence in Qatar, or 20 years of imprisonment  plus a £21,349 to £64,047 fine on the best hypothesis.

And that is not all: foreigners were adverted to stay away from smugglers and drugs users, otherwise they might be punished as well for their friends' acts.

Fans Who Smuggle Cocaine Into Qatar World Cup Could Face Death Penalty

If they want good returns to their investment, then they should allow these activities as well. What about a 900% sin tax on marijuana?
Oh, don't give them an idea like that one, otherwise they might like it, upgrading and boosting their sin taxes regulations immediately. Cheesy

In Australia a pint at a random bar is basically at that price.

And in a few countries in Europe as well, like Norway for example.

Everything is getting so expensive!
Wow, that is crazy. I can buy a pint here for 1,60$. I would never pay that insane 12$ for this same pint, even if they sprinkled gold or diamond's particles in my glass.

After numerous deaths in football stadiums, Brazil passed a law in 2003 outlawing alcohol sales in stadiums. FIFA demanded that Brazil allow alcohol sales at the World Cup because Budweiser, a major World Cup sponsor, was the "Official Beer of the FIFA World Cup", a role it had played since 1986. In response, Brazil passed a law paving the way for alcohol sales in the World Cup, nicknamed the "Budweiser Bill"

I'm curious to see if something similar will happen now in Qatar 2022, since Budweiser is again sponsoring the World Cup, and Qatar has said they won't allow selling alcohol inside the stadiums...
I believe the rules are going to be relaxed by regulators when the time comes. There is a lot of pressure on this matter and low resistance on the other side... It seems some VIP foreigners are already scheduled to be allowed to consume alcohol:

Quote
As part of the relaxed rules, alcohol will be available to fans in stadiums in Qatar, but so far only to those purchasing hospitality packages.

Jaime Byrom, the contractor behind the premium offerings, told RTE: “It is our expectation that people will be able to [drink].

“We expect that, depending on the decisions taken by others – we will of course always comply with whatever regulations, whatever laws are decreed – certainly at this point in time we are planning to be in a position to serve alcohol in our hospitality programme.”
Anyway, people shouldn't get too much excited about drinking during the games, because alcohol in Qatar is sold at a premium due to it being heavily taxed:

Quote
A pint of beer in Doha, where group stage matches will be played, costs around £10 due to the Muslim country invoking sin taxes on alcohol.

Yet organisers are also working on subsidising drink as well as making sure it is more readily available for fans during the tournament.

“Alcohol is not part of our culture,” Nasser al-Khater, the chief executive officer of the 2022 World Cup, admitted in 2019.
Interesting that alcohol isn't part of their culture, but when being sold overpriced for their own financial benefit it's fine. Cheesy

DRINKING LIMIT World Cup 2022: Can England fans drink in Qatar? Will alcohol be served for supporters in stadiums and how much will beer cost?
I do not think expensive prices will stop football fans from getting alcohol, especially beer. 10-15 dollars is nothing for a person coming from north america or europe just to get fun and watch their favourite team (or nation). I am coming from a country who has very good football culture (Türkiye) and people always always drink alcohol at special days, like important sports matches and similar events. Qatar won't be able to stop it unless they ban it.

Actually I am glad that Australia managed to qualify. This adds more diversity to the world cup, as Australia represents the Oceania continent (although technically they are part of the AFC). If New Zealand is able to defeat Costa Rica today, it will add more diversity to the world cup. Bad news for CONMEBOL and CONCACAF, but it is good to see teams like Australia and New Zealand playing in the world cup. BTW, Australia will be placed in a group alongside France, Danmark and Tunisia. Quite a tough one, if you ask me.

Costa Rica ended up winning against New Zealand, with an early but not beautiful goal. So Oceania will be represented by Australia only.

After watching the New Zealand vs Costa Rica match, they both look a bit weak to be honest. Not sure how much will Costa Rica advance in the world cup.

It's a shame, I couldn't see the match between Costa Rica vs New Zealand, New Zealand is a country that I have always wanted to know and I think it is also worthy of going to a World Cup, on the other hand Costa Rica has already been to a World Cup and they did not do so badly, what surprises me is that both the Peru vs Australia and the Costa Rica vs New Zealand games were classified as bad, boring, without contribution, without emotions, it is strange, for me these matches must be most exciting in the world! I mean, if I were a player there I would leave my soul, I would sweat that shirt like there is no idea, I don't see why they are boring, it's not like the playoff games when URUGUAY goes or any other team that comes out is to kill the riva, it's Well deserved for those who go, I hope that in the world cup they do a good job.

Only 5 months to go for the World Cup 2022!

The Qatar 2022 World Cup will start in November 21, and will end in December 18.

There are no more qualifications, every group is defined already, now we just wait to see what happens outside of the field. Things like selling beer in the stadiums is being played right now. Let's see how that will end up for Budweiser, who is the sponsor of the event.
I myself can't wait for the start of the world cup this time. because in my area football lovers will gather and watch together the world cup match which will be broadcast live on the big screen provided. what an exciting moment. there may be some while betting and drinking. and food vendors will also benefit from this world cup.
Well, the best of all this is that we will have a very exciting Christmas, this December will be very active, especially for those of us who like football, I hope that this World Cup will make a difference, Qatar is undoubtedly a country that never disappoints.

For those in India, timing is perfect. To watch the matches, we don't need to skip our work. But the issue will be there for those who are residing in the United States and Canada. But still, it will be interesting to see how a conservative country such as Qatar handles with the football fanatics from all over the world. Let's not forget the fact that alcohol consumption in public is punishable by flogging within Qatar (still available at a limited number of restaurants for foreign nationals). The fans are not going to be happy about it.
Asian region have perfect time for watching FIFA 2022 World Cup Qatar because held on rest time after finishing working, my country really support for watching several match actually on group stage. Have several match held on evening time and give chance for us waste time watching all match exactly on group stage, but have several match held on time for sleeping and looks will miss match if held on early morning depending with my country time. But World Cup 2022 Qatar as the event each four years and keep watching after waiting for long time although with my country not participants yet.

True... for those who don't know or participate, you may think that the most difficult or laborious thing is over, but for sure there is still a lot of hard work to be done and important decisions to be defined.
At this moment, what I have seen most about the world cup are the uniforms that countries are starting to disclose to the world, an official shirt can be worth a fortune.

Absolutely.

Specially if it has some history attached to it.

Recently the "Hand of God" shirt from Maradona was auctioned for 7.1 Million pounds! That's about 8.7 Million USD or 417BTC

The shirt worn by Diego Maradona when he scored twice – including the “hand of God” goal – to knock England out of the 1986 World Cup has sold for a record-breaking £7.1m at auction.

Sometimes I find it incredible how much money some people have. It makes me think about how each person values things at a different price, and also each person has different amounts of money to spend as well...

Nigeria has one of the best players currently in Africa. They are likely to be the best team and can win the 2023 African Cup is nation.

Are you mad or something ? Like how and what do you mean ?
Where are they now ? No where to be seen. They haven't done well to qualify against Ghana.
But the new coach doing well, they have to prepare very well for the Afcon.

FIFA World cup 2022 will be interesting. It will be like a thug of war. Just that my favourite club, Nigerian
Super Eagle has been nocked out in the Qatar qualifiers stage. But i am still hoping to support another club (Country) in the tournament. Preferably, African club, but what I am afraid of is the referees. World cup referees are not friendly with the African Teams. That not withstanding, fair play can bring out the best in the world cup. European clubs, Asian clubs and African clubs are my prediction to win the world cup.
On your own prediction, whom do you think will win the tournament and carry the Golden Cup? Remember every country's plan is to win the world cup tournament but not every team will win and the three (3) best will be selected. And that should be:

1st winner
2nd winner and
3rd Winner.

Say your mind.

It’s  sad one of the team with the best players currently in Africa won’t be playing in the 2022 World Cup. Nigeria has a lot of good players that are doing very well in their respective club outside the country. But its unfortunate they didn’t get a slot to represent the nation. In this World Cup, I am bidding for Senegal to go far in the tournament. There outstanding performance during the qualification has proven they are ready to fight for the cup.
Portugal and Brazil are also favourites teams that can win top 3 in the World Cup this year.

Wild culture in terms of what if I may ask, let not forget the fact that FIFA is a world federating body and they have ethics of practice. If any country goes against their rule those countries are banned from the competition until they are unbanned, so culture does not have a rule in FIFA what FIFA has is a rule that countries must obey in other to take part in the competition.

FIFA is a very powerful organization. They even have pushed to change laws in some of the countries they have hosted the World Cup.
