Seems like a pretty solid squad. I definitely think they'll go far, not at least just for having the home advantage. I would say they'd be more used to the climate as well, but I guess most players probably haven't actually played regularly in Brazil since they were young  Cheesy.

It would be really great to some of the less popular team went far in the tournament. I wish some Asian team would end up in top 4. By the way, why China does not have football team?

China does have a national football team, but they were not good enough to qualify for the World Cup.  Grin

The Asian teams which are participating in this edition of the world cup are:

1. Australia (AFC Fourth Round Group B Runners-up)
2. Japan (AFC Fourth Round Group B Winners)
3. Iran (AFC Fourth Round Group A Winners)
4. South Korea (AFC Fourth Round Group A Runners-up).

Out of these 4 teams, I think only Japan is having any serious chances of qualifying to the QF stage. Australia is also another good team... but unfortunately they are placed in a tough group.

i'm asian too. no one here is going to get into soccer, not with so many other sports around.

Are you from China? Soccer is very much popular everywhere else in Asia. And what are these other sports? Athletics? Hockey? Cricket?

football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. they exist not only at the pro level, but collegiate.. that's a lot of screen time.

Recently Russia has been in quite horrible form. Even if they get to the PQF stage, I don't think they will proceed much further from there. Also, their players will have to adjust to the different conditions.

5% of the population of Chile originates from Croatia, too bad we don't have anyone from there in our national team, they would do good there since they're used to the climate etc. Cheesy

Who said that?

There are only a few thousand people who are purely Croat. Many have small amounts of Croat blood, like 1/16 or 1/32, but they don't know anything about Croatia or the Croat language.

I didn't say they are Croatian but that they originate from Croatia Smiley

there are only around 200 000 people who reckognize themselves as Croats there, they make 1.6% of the population I think

okay I just found this article on english

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croatian_Chilean

that's just the people who are up to 1/2 Croat, there are much more who originate from here.

did you know Maradonas grandma Salvadora originates from one of our islands (Korčula in Dalmatia) ? Smiley
he even named his daughter Dalma Smiley
his greatgrandfather was Matej Kariolić from Croatia too Cheesy

WE need one more octopus like paul the octopus

Too bad that he died 4 years ago. Anyway the average life span of an octopus is only 2 to 5 years. Every time I eat fried Octopus in my favorite Japanese restaurant, I think about him.  Grin
