I am not so confident that the USA will go through to the next round alongside England from Group B. Any one of three UEFA team that are fighting for the final spot (Wales, Scotland and Ukraine) could qualify alongside England... and on a one-to-one match all three are capable of beating the USA.

It is obvious England are favourites to win the group but at the very least they should finish as runners-up if things go wrong. I am aware the USA needs to do well in the tournament to give the MLS another big boost to elevate soccer as the top sport in the USA so to that point I really want the USA to do well but I think England will qualify past the group stages with one of Wales, Scotland or Ukraine.

I think USA had a very impressive performance on qualifiers stage side by side with Canada, and were lucky by entering this group, which gives them total conditions to pass next phase with England, the favorite one from the group.

Opposite to olympic games, world cup is always a big challenge for US since the first stage, but I hope they are able to make it till quarter finals this time (or maybe Canada which can also represent north america on the competition)...

Very juicy odds are given by bookmakers on Canada's win against Panama - 2.1... I think I can take this chance! I think Canada will win without any problems... The second interesting match is Costa Rica vs USA. The odds are 2.25 to win the USA... Of course I'm not sure if the USA is the clear favorite here, but I'll try to place a multi bet on the win of Canada and the USA... Wink
...

My guesses would be
Panama vs Canada: draw @3.0
Costa Rica vs USA: win USA @2.15
I just realized above post was in the wrong thread (UEFA qualifiers), so I'll continue here instead Smiley

Ok, so that was a disaster.  Roll Eyes
Panama beat Canada 1-0 and Costa Rica beat the USA 2-0. Also Mexico won, but as expected the final ranking was not affected at all.

Canada, Mexico and the USA are qualified, then in June Costa Rica will play New Zealand for one of the last remaining spots. Costa Rica will be the favorite here, New Zealand is a relatively weak team.

I actually like the group US got into.  Be nice if Wales doesn't make it they are a pretty strong club.  No matter the bracket US will always struggle to escape from the group stages.  They are getting better but no where close to competing at the highest level.  I'm sure englad was happy to see the US squad in their bracket

I read what you wrote about Wales but if they win the play-off it will be a fascinating group. Imagine Group B will be: England, Iran, USA and one of Wales/Scotland/Ukraine

Imagine, not only will England vs USA take place but England vs Iran and also Iran vs USA will be in the same group. Sports meets politics with all the history between them  Grin

Here are the group tables for the World Cup:

Host nation Qatar have a small chance of progressing past the group stage because Senegal and Netherlands are favourites. It is important for the host nation to go far in to the tournament to keep home fans enthusiastic but either way there will be a huge interest in the tournament.

It is sad to see any form of violence on the football field when the beautiful game is there to be enjoyed. Only 5 African teams could qualify therefore it was inevitable some fans would be bitterly disappointed. The 5 African teams that qualified for Qatar 2022 are:

Senegal
Cameroon
Ghana
Morocco
Tunisia

I think Tunisia did well to reach the final of the Arab Cup 2021 just a few months ago in which they were defeated by Algeria therefore Tunisia could be the African team to look out for alongside Senegal  Smiley

After losing to Senegal and Cameron, respectively, both Algeria and Egypt will not be going to Qatar 2022 World Cup. I don't believe power is shifting back to the north; there was a time when the North Africans conquered Africa football; it was Cameron, Nigeria, and Ghana who shifted power from the north to the west.

On Tuesday, angry Nigerian fans ran onto the field and destroyed their newly renovated national stadium, while Senegal fans attacked the Egyptian bus before the game began, and Salah was attacked by Egyptian fans after missing the penalty kick. In other news, Algeria has filed a FIFA appeal to have their match against Cameron cancelled, accusing the referee of match fixing. Crazy scene!!!

Recently Algeria beat Cameroon, Egypt beat Senegal and Morocco beat Mali therefore maybe the balance of power is shifting towards the North of the continent. In December when the tournament kicks-off I think the northern teams will be the ones to look out for. I think Egypt and Algeria have the players to progress equal to or further than any African team in the past.

I think Egypt and Algeria have the players to progress equal to or further than any African team in the past.

Algeria beat Tunisia in the 2022 Arab Cup and Egypt were AFCON runners-up, if they make it to Qatar they will be part of the teams to look out for. Traditionally people have had high expectations of Nigeria but most of the focus has now been more on Egypt to perform and progress in any tournament they participate in and the world cup in Qatar will be a barometer to see how the African teams perform.

Egyptian fans probably will not be able to forget the sadness of losing the AFCOC final against Senegal any time soon. That must be a painful defeat to take being so close yet so far...

Which of the African teams do you think will be causing trouble to the more established South American and European teams when they meet in Qatar? Right now during the qualification stage which teams are performing at a high level. Which are the teams to watch out for?

At the international stage, the west African teams typically outperform the North and South teams, so I'm particularly looking forward to seeing Nigeria, Cameroon (who have already lost 1-0 on aggregate to Algeria), Senegal (who have already lost 1-0 to Egypt), and Mali ( lost 1-0 Morroco ). If Mali, Senegal, and Cameron do not qualify for the World Cup, our chances of progressing far are minimal, but let's see how today's games go.

Representative’s of African countries to Qatar:

Cameroon🇨🇲
Ghana🇬🇭
Morocco🇲🇦
Senegal🇸🇳
Tunisia🇹🇳

This five teams had to pass through very competitive matches before reaching the final stage. It’s sad we won’t  be seeing teams like Ivory Coast, Egypt, Nigeria and Algeria in the World Cup in Qatar. A battle well fought for by the qualified African teams.

The good news is that Africa has an additional 4 spots during the next world cup.

I don't think that Ghana qualifying against Nigeria means that they were more prepared, no but I think the coach of the Nigerian team is part of the reason, maybe the Nigerian team have not got the set of coach like Clement westerhof, bonfrere Jo that made Nigerian players played out there heart back in the past. Over reliance on "professional players" is a challenge in the Nigerian football.

It is strange that the qualification from CAF was entirely based on knockout matches. Out of the 5 slots, ideally they should have given automatic qualification for the top 3 teams from the second round, while for the remaining two slots they should have scheduled knockout matches (similar to the case with the UEFA qualifiers). Now top teams like Nigeria and Algeria are out of the world cup and that is going to be disappointing. Let's not forget the fact that Nigeria finished with 13 points in the second round (losing just one match).

The match between Egypt vs Senegal was a serious battle to both teams because the two teams what to prove to their country that what happened in AFCON final that gave the Senegal penalty opportunity to won AFCON champion title 2022. At 4 minutes Egypt got an early goal that made Senegal to lose their confidence to win today match. Egypt has  proven to the world that they are more strong than Senegal in this tournament for defeated Senegal 1-0 to achieve the victory.
This defeat made the Egyptian national team certainly failed to advance to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as well as making them lose to Senegal for the second time in a row in a crucial moment.  The presence of laser interference before the Egyptian players took the penalty made this match filled with the spotlight.  The disturbance even occurred before the match entered the penalty shootout.  Although they did not discuss lasers specifically, the Egyptian FA have confirmed that they have lodged a complaint regarding the atmosphere in the stadium, but will FIFA consider this?  I don't think so, all considered finished.  Egypt's failure to qualify for Qatar was also marked by the resignation of Carlos Queiroz.

40 millions Algerian fans shocked, still can't believe what happened. Algerian team was fighting for 120 minutes and lose the match in the last second of the match, im not making excuses but the match referee was disaster for real He canceled two clear penalties and he won't come back to see the var ..... Honestly Algerian team doesn't deserve to lose.
This is football and Congratulations for Cameroun.

The result was really a blow for Riyad Mahrez and his friends.  This is a very dramatic result, all the Algerian courtiers do not seem to believe this fact.  The coach, Djamel Belmadi, could not even fall down and prostrate on the ground.  She wept, pawing at the grass and rubbing it over her face.  He was so disappointed and so were all the Algerian people of course.  But this is football, everything can happen beyond the human mind!  Congratulations to Cameroon.

Nigeria were not able to win Ghana to qualify for the world cup, they've been eliminated from it.The black stars of Ghana were much prepared than the Nigerians and it is history that Nigeria do not beat Ghana. This is embarassing because looking at the types of player that Nigeria have, and they allowed Ghana win them is a shame.
Congratulations to Ghana,Atleast they will make Africa proud, since Nigeria could not ensure they qualify.

Excluded from world cup qualifiers due to overconfident Nigerians. Even so, the games were exciting. The hard-fought victory went to Ghana. Sadly, Nigeria does not have a strong team to compete at the World Cup. Each team has been given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability, and the good teams are going to Qatar. In terms of competitiveness and mental preparedness to face such giants, was this the most competitive qualification in African football? Congrats to everyone who qualified, nevertheless.
Nigeria has one of Africa's biggest stars currently; not qualifying does not imply the team isn't good enough; upsets happen in sports; we've seen Italy, Chile, Colombia, and other good teams fail to qualify for the next World Cup. Remember that Ghana won because of the away goal rule, not because they were the superior team.

It's sad for an Egyptian fan or a football fan who wanted Egypt to win but the truth is the two occasions where Senegal have beaten Egypt, they were by far better than the Egyptians. Even Mane tend to be more influential and effective for Senegal than Salah is for Egypt. The laser pointed at the Egyptians during the penalty shootout has shift the focus of the game which is the Senegal side were actually better.

From today's matches, in my opinion, the Uruguay - Peru match looks to be the most interesting. Both teams are fighting for a place awarded with direct promotion to the World Cup. If they win, Uruguay will be practically sure of this advance. I believe the hosts will not miss this opportunity and will beat the Peru team.
Uruguay won the game and that means the top4 ranks are settled: Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay are qualified. Ecuador lost against Paraguay, but can't be overtaken anymore by Peru or Colombia.

The fight for the 5th rank is still open between Peru, Colombia and Chile. All 3 teams have "doable" games (i.e. not against Brazil or Argentina  Grin) If Peru wins against Paraguay next Wednesday then everything is decided.
So this is also settled now: Peru won 2-0 against Paraguay. They managed to maintain their early lead and to keep their sheet clean throughout the game. Colombia also won, but due to the win of Peru they weren't able to overtake them in the standings.

Peru will have to play against the winner of the game UAE vs Australia for the qualification of one of the last remaining spots. Peru will go as a favorite into that game. Fifa rankings are:
Peru (22)
Australia (37)
UAE (69)
