I agree with you. Ronaldo and Messi are two football icons who will never be replaced. There are no other players even close to their level in their prime. It is difficult to let them go in the national team because they have an extraordinary influence on the team. I remember the moment when Ronaldo encouraged his teammates in the 2016 Euro final even though at that time France was very favored compared to Portugal. Messi also had a big influence on Argentina's overall game at the 2022 world cup in Qatar. So I think it's difficult to keep them from being called up unless they decide to retire.

I totally agree with you about this topic. Small countries have bigger issues with growing players like Ronaldo. They aren't like Brazil for example which has a population around 217 million and which is a football country also. However I agree on another thing that Portugal still have skilled players. The thing they will only need is to have a strong team effort after Ronaldo retires.

Portugal or some other national team can't just rely on one player to be carried. This is nonsense if you really want to become successful.

You cannot go with the legends players forever as those players will have to retire one day. Yes, players like Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi are stars but teams need to find equally good players so that once they retire, the vacuum is filled or there is no vacuum at all.
The teams who foresee the future will always try to find the replacements of the star players before there era comes to an end.

Even saying so, we cannot deny the impact of Cristiano Ronaldo on his football team and globally. It will not be easy to find players with the same skills, dedication and longevity he has achieved, compared to all the players in the history.

Ronaldo is a great player and a role model for most people around the world. I think no one will be able to replace Ronaldo in Portugal. Even Portugal will never again be able to find a player like Ronaldo. I don't think Ronaldo has to retire for Portugal to find a replacement. Ronaldo will give opportunities to young players and will make them work hard to reach the level like him. I think Ronaldo will still be needed by Portugal even when he retires. Portugal needs Ronaldo as a role model, a player who works hard and is very disciplined. I think CR7 is the best of the best for his dedication and hard work.

Kylian Mbappe is currently 25 years of age while Erling Haaland is two years younger than Mbappe which means that they're currently in their prime but the truth of the whole matter is they're still in competition with Cristiano Ronaldo despite his current age of 39. Last year, Cristiano Ronaldo finished the year as the highest goal scorer in world football and currently this season, Cristiano Ronaldo have scored more goals than Erling Haaland.
We might not get to watch Lionel Messi play in the next edition of the FIFA World Cup but if Cristiano Ronaldo keeps performing like he's doing at the moment and stays fit, he's very likely to feature in the next edition of the FIFA World Cup

I believe in the next World Cup many top players will break Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo record.
