He seems to be trying to confuse what the Sun is doing in the sky with the topography of Earth. The globe is based on a similar logical fallacy of the position of the stars. Both the Sun and the stars are projected off of the dome so anything inferred is relative to domes topography not the Earth. Basically he's promoting a new compromised and deformed globe model that's just a little bit closer to reality.
The globe is already becoming severely deformed, the more it's forced to compromise in the face of empirical evidence the more deformed it will become.
