36 year old Ronaldo to United on a 500k weekly wages? Looks exactly like the type of a deal Woodward would do.
Don't get me wrong, Ronaldo is still a great player. But this would be another mistake in an already too long line of mistakes for United. He'd cost a fortune, demand a center role and he'd be another forward option that would take minutes away from Martial/Rashford/Greenwood - obviously their best part of the team.
I'm sure they will do this deal if Ronaldo is available though.
My son will be ecstatic, earlier in the season I recall a discussion about it, and he was hoping (using his teenage brain) this would happen so United would win the league again haha and you're right, cryptofrka, this is precisely what Woodward's capable of -- slightly amusing that United fans hate him so much but they'd love a move like that.
I like Ronaldo too, you can't deny talent and greatness all rolled into one, but if you want to get out of the doldrums, you rebuild around a team of hungry players, not around a former icon. Of course, as a Liverpool supporter, this is the sort of move you love seeing (same joy I felt when they splashed out on Pogba, Sanchez, etc.) because well, the more they spend like that, the worse off they are in the long term and that's always a good thing for Liverpool.
But for the sake of the game, this deal shouldn't go through.
