PSG got a really disappointing loss against Rennes away today. PSG had an eight-win streak before this game. The away matches against Rennes have always been tough for PSG. But considering their recent form, I believed that PSG wouldn't lose and would get a draw at least. Messi, Mbappe and Neymar all played in this game but still Rennes beat them by 2-0. I really don't know how this happened. PSG would have even scored one goal but there was none unfortunately. This is one of the games that they will want to forget about as fast as possible.
I agree with you, they have been disappointing, and I wonder how they managed to be so bad while less than one week before they had beaten Manchester City 2-0 at home for the Champions League. I hope it was just because they were still exhausted by this tough meeting.

I don't think there is any opposing view on this. PSG will be the champion comfortably this season. They lost at the last minute last season, but dominated the decade before that.
One defeat changes nothing. They started the season perfectly and haven't even gotten a boost from Messi yet. I have no doubt that they will get better as time goes on. In Champions League anything is possible. I guess they will more focus on that competition, that's why they try to collect points early in Ligue 1.
PSG have struggled to score too often in their last few matches in Ligue 1 and most recently they had to accept their first loss to a mid-table Ligue 1 side with a 2-0 scoreline. I know that 1 defeat won't change anything, but PSG have to improve their team's performance for the next match if they don't want to go on a losing streak. I'm sure PSG don't want to lose, but when other team play better and take advantage of all the scoring opportunities then PSG have to accept defeat.
The fact remains, but despite all its moments in the match, Paris Saint-Germain does not have a single hit on goal officially. Nothing terrible happened, PSG remains on the first line of the standings with a fairly comfortable margin, and coach Bruno Genesio scalps the Paris superclub for the fourth time, 3 times before with Lyon, and now with Rennes. Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino has recently been conducting various experiments with tactical formations on the football field in order to effectively fit his superstars into the team game, especially Messi, but as can be seen from the result, so far it has not worked.

This was really shocking match for many because in this season no one was expecting result like this but still Rennes done job, we all know PSG is going to do some big in this season, but this match was nightmare for them.
Odds were @6.5 for Rennes and @1.4 for PSG.

We have too much noise about this match around here because mostly peoples those follow French Ligue they know its not easy match for PSG and history between these two teams in last 5 matches Rennes won 3 time and PSG just once and one is draw.
I guess PSG had too many wins in a row and they were bound to lose at least one game all season, I did not see them winning the league undefeated, and it wasn't early on neither, they lost their first ever points on their 9th game. They are still 6 points ahead of the second closest team and this is just the 9th week, if they keep this level of difference then they would win the league by 20+ points, even as much as 25 points. I am not saying that the result by the end of the season will be like that, I am sure they will have even more losses and some draws as well.

However, having your first ever point loss in 9th game is a great way to start the league. I do not find any fault for them, you could lose to last team in the league if you won that much in a row, there is nothing they need to do to prove themselves, it is already obvious that they will be crowned champions.

None of their shots were on target. Rennes defenders stopped all of the attempts of PSG strikers. The free kick shot of Messi bounced back by hitting the goal bar. Neymar and Mbappe missed easy opportunity to score. Their shots was far away from the goal post. It proves that they aren't playing as they should. Without having a perfect combination between the players no team can give you the expected result always. PSG need to improve their defensive section too.

Yeah, it was really terrible to see them struggling about even finding the target. When it comes to PSG's defense, they actually have really capable players. Now, their regular centre-backs are Marquinhos and Kimpembe. These defenders both are really strong actually. Sergio Ramos' injury is still lasting now. Maybe they can be a little better with him. But they still need to defend their opponents much better. Maybe they can solve this by transferring a star defender. Or maybe they need a better game plan for the defense part.

Damn, could only just get to see all the highlights during lunch break but seeing Messi miss that freekick, even the commentator thought it had gone it actually. Still a brilliant guy but PSG will be so mad at themselves for losing this game. I wonder what the odds for Rennes was?

Never knew they always had tough games against this team but now I know.

Cannot believe I'm following French league now. I really miss Messi (and Ramos?!?!) Wink

PSG is on cruise control in Ligue 1. Things like these will occasionally happen, they cannot win all 38 games. The world will laugh when it does though, because the expectations are insane.

They won 8 games before yesterday, with a total goal difference of +15 (22-7). They were great against City in the CL as well, they remain one of the favorites to win it for sure.
be my favorite too but It's natural to lose because to prepare for another prestigious match but it became 2-0 is a slap to psg because no goal retaliation ah not satisfied ,maybe Rennes played well with a little gap and managed to break through the goal ,sometimes teams with top stars don't guarantee 100% to keep winning and we also often see it at other prestigious sporting events ,future will be better with experience

It is natural for the world to laugh when a strong team like PSG loses against Rennes. PSG's management has spent a lot of money to coordinate the best players in the world. The most talented striker in the world is in the squad of PSG. Yet they could not score a single goal against Rennes' defense. This is a shame. If Messi or Mbappe were not in the squad, I would have accepted the matter. But, PSG performed with their full strength.

It is natural to laugh if it happens too often. If they lose 1 out of 10 games, that's perfectly normal. All top teams lose games all the time, Real lost to Sheriff a week ago.

Football is not basketball or handball, surprises happen more often than in other sports and PSG team will not try to win all the games in Ligue 1 - they will try to win comfortably while still saving strength for the Champions league.

hmph..
-snip-
PSG got their first defeat in Ligue 1 and I think it won't affect them too much. They will take the championship in Ligue 1.

The chance of winning still belongs to PSG, but the public seems surprised by the defeat in this match. PSG has everything, all lines are filled with top players. With this result, Rennes has recorded three wins from the last six meetings with PSG in all competitions. Does this mean Rennes coach knows how to stop PSG?

One of the important matches played last night was the Lille-Marseille match. While I find Marseille favorites for the good game they played recently, the result was not. Lille won 2-0 with 2 goals with David. They recovered a bit more this week, reaching 14 points. In the Saint Etienne - Lyon match, Saint Étienne drew a penalty in 90+5 minutes. It was an unfortunate match for Lyon.

Mbappe has an offiside goal but that shot is excellent.

In bad days, good defenders can make mistakes and attacking players can miss great opportunities that they can score easily in good or even normal days.

To be honest PSG didn't play convincing soccer. Even if you take the game against Manchester City in the Champions League, that was a game where they were extremely efficient with their chances and Manchester City was not. And yes they had a clean sheet in Ligue 1 pretty much, but those were often times games that could have also gone the other way. They still can't enfold the dominance you would expect from a team with all those names being part of their squad.

If PSG lose points against Rennes, they will be able to decrease the point difference with them too.
Rennes 2 - 0 PSG

I watched this game and every minute I got irritated, PSG attack was almost non-existent, Messi, Neymar and Mbappe and Icardi and DiMaria seemed to lack motivation, it was as if they weren't even on the field. honestly, PSG is bad on defense, the opponent could easily do what he wanted and PSG's defense was bad
I'm glad I didn't bet on this game

PSG's fortunes against Rennes are always bad. The PSG team has also performed poorly against Rennes in the past. However, the result of today's match was unexpected. Because PSG has one of the best forward lineups in the world. PSG could not score a single goal despite having great players like Mbappe, Messi, Neymar and Di Maria in the team. It really hurt me a lot.
don't forget that they beat Manchester City 2-0 few days ago, this is totally unexpected, and today they couldn't score a single goal or even shoot a shot on goal with all the players they have right now, I think it will take some time for chemistry to build up between players, it is what's missing in PSG squad right now.

Unfortunate me. Other night, I had total 6 bet placed and won one only. Tonight, I placed bet after watching Messi, Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria is starting XI & thought it was supposed to be an easy win for them. I really need a break; I can't overcome the losing streak  Cry

My lord, I guess this is not you nor your streak to blame. I am sure hardly anyone put his money on Stade Reims tonight. Honestly I can't even understand how a team like PSG can not even score a goal, let alone lose that game like that. I feel that in France it is ultra hard for the superstars to motivate themselves. France is just not that much of a soccer nation as other countries in Europe. No idea how the fans there are, but I never ever watched a single full game of Ligue 1.
