Decrease in overall productivity of individual: Addiction reduces the value that you add to wherever you are engaged career wise as you are mostly distracted with gambling thereby reducing your commitment and dedication to your duties, this might significantly reduce the overall company productivity and lead to job loss.
health Challenges: A gambling addict is always under pressure and tension and as such is prone to health challenges like high blood pressure, depression, and on the part of his people, they might be suffering from the psychological implications of his lifestyle which includes social stigma.
violence : most gambling addicts are prone to violent behaviors owing to anger issues from much losses and this might greatly affect his relationship with his immediate family and people around him who might start seeing him as a wild animal.
your contributions are very much welcome as we learn together the many demerits of gambling addiction to inform both those currently addicted and intending addicts of the dangers of that irrational lifestyle.
Sure, it can indirectly cause these or lead to these problems, but not necessarily. In short: Every gambling addict is different, not all gambling addicts are violent for example. Stress alone should be pretty severe to cause high blood pressure. It's caused by wrong nutrition, and obesity way more than that. That said, stress is never good for you.
And there are different levels in any addiction. Many addicts are highly functional and can keep on doing productive work and successful social life. We just rarely hear about them, as as their negative behavior, what ever kind that is, is not seen by anyone close to them. Any kind of addiction is always taxing from something in our life, but sometimes it's just a vice, that has replaced even worse vice, like smoking.
Now i sound like i am taking addiction lightly. That's not my point. My point is that those symptoms you are listing are over simplifying.
I a gree with you. The typical person is of course different, their temperament, disease and all its forms are influenced by each person's own pattern, and gambling is only related to this.
Of course there are many causes of disease, lifestyle and diet are very influential, gambling may only be a flavoring. Then regarding violence or criminal acts, of course this is influenced by a person's temperament. If a gambling addict is a psychopath, can it be said that gambling causes symptoms and even makes a person a psychopath?
I just want to convey this rationally, we as humans often associate things carelessly and based on preconceived desires without further research.
