Money isn't everything, but everything needs money.

So if someone have so many problems in their life, my advice is start to accumulate money as much as you can until you think you're rich. When you're already rich, you don't have to worry or think about any problem that related to money. But if you still have a problem when you're rich, you need to seek a professional help.

Of course, in order to build wealthy, you need to recover from addictions.

Nothing lasts forever
Ofcourse it does more harm because the reason we lose big is because of gambling itself.
Financial losses can happen due to any reason but many people recover from it by working smart.
But the people who lose money because of gambling addiction are the ones who have to face more trouble.
Coming out of gambling addiction is hard and then he also has to recover the money he has lost.
So that directly shows us that gambling losses are worse than other financial losses.

I think in order to be an addiction it would have to cause negative effects beyond just losing money as that is to be expected if you aren’t bad at math.

I would agree though that gambling has many potential negative side effects if you abuse it. This is why I always say to consider gambling like paying for entertainment. If you win money, that’s a side perk. It shouldn’t be the only goal or you will be disappointed more than satisfied.

I agree that every person who gambles must view it more on this kind of perspective.

If you view gambling as a means of earning profit, then you are putting yourself in a lot of risk due to its very nature. Remember that gambling is a risky venture- the only absolute thing that may happen here is the uncertainty of profit. If you also take statistics, the house will always win due to the presence of house edge that gives the latter the advantage the more you gamble.

This is the reason on why that in order for a person to prevent any overspending in gambling, approach it with a mindset of entertainment. Treat it as something that you do for the purpose of enjoying the risks and profit as the secondary goal.

Well said! I completely agree with you about the dangers of gaming addiction and the need for further study. It is especially important that you mentioned the impact on loved ones - this is often overlooked. I would like to add that pressure and tension are just the tip of the iceberg. It's important to delve into psychological factors such as co-occurring mental health disorders or trauma. It is absolutely true that not all gamers are violent and it is important to avoid such simplifications. Social and cultural aspects are also important. It is important to recognize that addiction can affect people from all walks of life, regardless of status or background. In addition to the dangers, I think it is important to mention the support resources available to addicts and their loved ones. For example: National Council on Problem Gambling: https://www.ncpgambling.org/ Gamblers Anonymous: https://www.gamblersanonymous.org/

It is better that we do not cross that red line, if we do, it will not only cost us the money but also enough that are negative that we can point to in our daily life. This is why the addicts are often tagged the irresponsible people as they do not do the right thing with the money they have but gamble. If this is causing financial problems for the person, there is no way it will not affect him and the people around him, and this could lead to other issues, especially when such has been begged and persuaded before on this matter but refuses to change. This is what will take the sanity off them and could so lead to the domestic violence that we are discussing on this forum.

In short, this is just a bad thing and it has levels depending on how the person allows it to eat himself. To some, it is minimal but to others, it is so bad to the extent that they will also be collecting loans and begging people for money just because they want to gamble. I don't think this is the path that anyone reasonable should cross, so it is better we guard against it from the onset before it happens, and it will be better done if we know the evil in gambling addiction even before we start it.

Because people who can't manage money are stupid and they do other stupid thing when the reality comes true like their own expectations. Such people are toxic, it's really unfortunate for someone who're forced to live with them and they can't choose other choice due to lack of financial or personal reason.

Substance abuse as you mentioned can be a huge damage to the body, but it has no much difference to gambling. Because no form of pain or sickness is good. Be it mental or body problem the person will not stay comfortable. None of them is encouraged due to the bad behavior it causes to the gambler. On the other hand, a gambling addict may not be efficiently capable to resist chasing loss for some time. The compulsive gambling in him won't let him some few moments away from gambling. A person who is still enabled to control himself at some point in gambling is not addicted. Although such people can get addicted, if their goal is mainly about making money through gambling. That's why gamblers are asked to gamble at a minimal duration and wager smaller funds, which they can be able to lose.

Even though initially with small funds they can afford to lose, when they play more often it can still lead to addiction. it can make him increase his bets because he is obsessed with winning. the first situation that comes into view is financial chaos. and then it will have something to do with the people around you. the impact may reach family or friendships. This impact is related to finances first and then will enter the social environment.
Therefore, as much as possible to is no worse in gambling. just do it within the limits of our consciousness. Don't go too far, it will increase your risk of becoming addicted to gambling.

violence : most gambling addicts are prone to violent behaviors owing to anger issues from much losses and this might greatly affect his relationship with his immediate family and people around him who might start seeing him as a wild animal.

your contributions are very much welcome as we learn together the many demerits of gambling addiction to inform both those currently addicted and intending addicts of the dangers of that irrational lifestyle.
This is a fact because my neighbor is an addict, he often gambled at work so he was fired from his job, then he is now unemployed, his life is spent only on gambling, his wife trades to provide for the family's living expenses, but he takes the money just to finance his gambling. Sometimes he screams and scolds his wife, it seems like he commits acts of violence against his wife and children just because his wife doesn't give him money to gamble. it was so worrying that finally his wife and child left him alone.

Without realizing it, gambling addicts always act beyond the limits of their minds so that they are even able to commit criminal acts just to finance their gambling, I don't know what they really feel inside themselves so they can't reject it and fight against themselves, even though I don't think gambling addiction is as difficult. that's to control it, I often gamble on weekends I know I may not be an addict but I gamble regularly on weekends that doesn't mean I want to get a lot of money from gambling so there is no real goal that makes me commit violent acts, let alone crimes, isn't that what gambling should be? for entertainment, not for something serious.

Decrease in overall productivity of individual: Addiction reduces the value that you add to wherever you are engaged career wise as you are mostly distracted with gambling thereby reducing your commitment and dedication to your duties, this might significantly reduce the overall company productivity and lead to job loss.
This thing really happened to me. So, I suggest those who have been facing their computers for a long time just gambling their way, might want to back off a little and think about what is happening with their life. It could totally ruin your productivity as an employee and that might get you jobless in the future. I've seen it and it happened to me. Thankfully, my supervisor was good to me and I had a good record as an employee before.
I am not a gambling addict yet, I could tell, but sometimes you will get hooked with the game especially if you are chasing your losses.

health Challenges: A gambling addict is always under pressure and tension and as such is prone to health challenges like high blood pressure, depression, and on the part of his people, they might be suffering from the psychological implications of his lifestyle which includes social stigma.
Stress can really have many implications for our bodies. When I was chasing losses and for two days trying to get it back with lack of sleep, I felt a lot of body pain and my acid was way high because of it. When I stopped doing it, everything was gone with just one good night's sleep. Truly, gambling can affect us if we are in the event where we badly want our money back. It's better if we can accept that the money is gone so that we won't have the drive to keep on chasing it.
That's only the first part that it will affect our body, the rest is what OP said if we keep on going and get addicted with it.

Negative impression on children/ dependents: His addiction can corrupt the good intentions of the younger generation looking up to him for inspiration, they may grow up to see gambling as a way of life and follow the wrong footprints.

I thought the internet has change how people gamble these days. If you gamble online and you don't tell people that you gamble, trust me nobody will know a shit about what you do online when pressing your phone or your laptop, so I don't get where you mean negative impression on children when they don't know when I gamble and time I used to bets. As an adult, I know how the kids thinks and it will be silly of me to gamble in their presence.

Unless the person is highly addicted to gambling and has low immune body system, I don't see how gambling is going to affect your health. If you know you have high blood pressure, you should never start gambling in the first place because health comes before any other stuff.

Violence? With who exactly. You played game and lost and then you picked an offense to unleash the anger on another soul. The person need to be locked up for days to cool down it violence, nobody sent you to gamble nor ask you to wager, it was a voluntary actions and of course there was equal or opposite results.

Gambling addiction has been known to be associated with serious funds loss, bankruptcy, unsettled loan involvements, properties auctioning and other irritable financial behaviors that depicts frustration and desperations from the victims.
A little more observation shows clearly other effects of such addiction to just not the addict alone, but those around them, be it friends, family or neighbors. Here are a few of them:

All that you mention are potential outcome of gambling addiction but this event is also present on other form of addiction such as substance abuse and alcohol. In fact substance abuse can inflict more damage than gambling addiction since they literally destroy their body unlike gambling addiction that only their mindset is being poisoned by greediness.

Also this kind if scenario will only apply to those who have severe addiction not in general since I knew some addicted gamblers in my neighborhood that doesn’t commit this kind of action while seriously addicted to gambling based on the amount of time they are consuming by just playing in the casino. Not all addicted can’t handle their losses some can still move on and wait for other time to comeback again to fuel there addiction once more.

Every gamblers can not be the same even when the younger generation are seeing what's happening to the eldest, it doesn't mean that when one is losing the others will also lose, might be but not all as gambling is about luck and luck comes with grace.
I have been around an environment where people are gambling and the others where losing but some where winning, and that's shows there is time for every gamblers, if today is not your turn to win, just chill because your turn to win can not pass you by.
One can lose the whole money he haa but can not use his life to gamble, when they do so they are absolutely getting out of hand and needs to be stopped as soon as possible because one who gave use his life to bet on something is no longer thinking straight anymore, even when you are very sure of what you are doing never do that because it might turn around.

These things you mentioned also have some truth, in my opinion, although I have not actually gone through them. Although I gamble but only myself knows no one else. And I don't show it to minor children either.

Most addicts actually become violent people, especially when they can no longer control their own emotions, which sometimes even lead to physical harm to their families, which is not good. But, as much as possible, don't be like the ones mentioned above.

Irresponsible gambling leads to addiction. Gambling addiction is a silent thief. It hacks at the life of the individual slowly and steadily until it finally ends their life. It is not news that the goal and purpose of any addiction is to cripple the daily functioning of the addict. It is maladaptive. Maladaptive means the person the person is not able to function and do the most basic things from personal hygiene to other responsibilities like meeting up with key performance indicators at the office. More than financial loss, there is a loss of life which is the extreme of gambling addiction.

We shouldn't stop talking about the dangers of gambling addiction and how gambling addicts can get help.

They both work in hands, if you're the addicted type, then you're likely to loose more money to gambling because you do that often even without being careful about how you're gambling being an addict type, there's no much difference and the implications as well will also go similar, you gamble too often and you loose more money on gambling and that is already a sign of being an addicted gambler.

Losing money is the root cause of gambling addiction, when a gambler continuously experiences loses and he keeps on gambling without caution to chase loses, it's what leads to desperation, then he degenerates and enters full addiction. At this point all the traits that the OP mentioned will start to manifest, the mood swings that leads to violence, being constantly broke and in dept, relationship with family and friends will be negative affected.

Gambling addiction is far more harmful than financial lose, because when financial loses occures there's hope that when it is regained the person can spend responsibly, but anytime a gambling addict gets money, they'll squander everything on gambling, even when they're not winning.

Negative impression on children/ dependents
This is true. Kids who are expose to such surrounding wherein a family member is a compulsive gambler, might think it's just normal. Since that's the kind of set up he/she grow up with. We, as adult, should be mindful and responsible not to show to our kids what we are up to especially if this activity is not a good influence.

Decrease in overall productivity of individual
This is the case if a gambler is too much hooked in gambling and blinded by the potential profit that he might get. To the point he already forgot his responsibility and priorities in life because of it. That's the reality of the addicted gamblers who are not capable to control themselves.

A person who is addicted to gambling does not need a long time because the more often he gambles and with a certain amount of money, that is enough to make him addicted to gambling. Moreover, if he does not have self-control, which is one of the requirements for being able to gamble sufficiently, it will make him addicted to gambling more quickly. He will not think that he has a gambling addiction because he cannot see the signs of a gambling addiction that he has experienced. He just felt that he was gambling more often than before, and according to him, it was something he usually did. If this is what the younger generation experiences, they will quickly become addicted to gambling so that everything they planned before getting to know gambling will be destroyed because they will spend more of their time gambling. The younger generation must be aware of this, especially when they see lots of gambling advertisements on their social media. They must immediately close them so they are not tempted to play these gambling games. Apart from that, they need to have more positive activities so that they don't think about gambling like other younger generations.

in my opinion this problem has become a common problem and happens a lot, because in my opinion there are a lot of people who are addicted to gambling, and of course those who are addicted to gambling they experience a lot of losses, of course not only financially, other things too. there are many losses, including their health and relationships with their partners or families. There are also many cases of someone who is addicted to gambling with its impact spreading to the family, and as in another thread the impact of gambling can affect family relationships.

Indeed, many people gamble by following their greed, they tend not to think about other things, what is more important, even their own health, they can ignore it. by gambling accompanied by greed, it triggers them to become addicted to gambling, and of course they will experience a lot of losses apart from money, other things that will be lost in my opinion are.

-health
-time
-money (of course)
-relationship with family or partner
-future

and much more, but what is certain is money, and if their finances are out of control then it is likely that they will experience a stress phase. because to survive of course we must have stable finances, including basic needs that must be met every day, if their finances are not stable then their basic needs will not be met properly.

Again, to know how to gamble well and wisely, first we have to be able to control our emotions when playing, manage the risk of losing a lot of money by setting a stop loss or stop profit and what is no less important is not to use all the money we have, including money for family needs, in gambling. .

I didn't know gamblers needed such a feature to stem gamblers' greed.
which becomes a loss for gamblers only when they cannot control their gambling well. wise people will not use their money to gamble. because they know the risks.
we just need to be reasonable gamblers. Play with the allocation that has been determined. If you win, withdraw, if you lose, you will come back the next day when there is another allocation of funds. the most important thing is, we know when to play and when we don't need to force ourselves to play.
