No matter how you twist this, gambling for fun will never make sense to me because I do not see any fun gambling with my money. Assuming that there were fun in gambling, the fact that money is involved, emotions will be engaged and this will dissipate the fun. If we treat gambling as fun, we might become careless, not adhering strictly to rules and strategy made to ensure the gambler protect his capital and manage his winnings effectively. Therefore, I see gambler as a business which require that the gambler remained focused and disciplined. In addition, since it involves money, proper money management must be put in place so the gambler do not get carried away by fear, greed or a combination of both.

People spend money just for sightseeing or tourism. There is no financial gain in visiting tourist sights, yet people still spend money because they see it as entertainment. The belief that people gamble mainly for profit is not totally correct. From observation, many people gamble for money but it is not all gamblers that have such an orientation. The population might be small but people still gamble for fun.

For me, gambling is both for fun and the money. I do not have any intention to go and lose money in the casino because I am not Father Christmas, I intend to make money. However, I do not see gambling as a source of income and I don't gamble with more than what I can afford to lose. If I win it is a lucky day, but if I don't I will comfortably bear the loss.       

I don't find it a reasonable purpose to have fun for others to play gambling. Come on people. Winning is more fun. Don't take gambling just to have fun. Take seriously every of your gambling session. Even playing luck-based games, once you already reached the fun of getting a decent profit, take a break and enjoy your winnings.

The real fun is when you win and use the winning money outside gambling.

I understand both users' views however I don't think the example that OP gave can be considered appropriate things.

Some gamble because they want money for financial needs.
Some gamble for fun they can afford to do this because there are other sources of income so when they lose it doesn't matter what.

Determine then your criteria and in terms of experience because more suggest gambling not for a successful passive income it is unlikely that you will lose spending all the capital.

At the moment, just do the responsibility where when you money can play if not then next time there must be time to play just that.
But about a lot of experience it is clear that we have experienced it but now it is more improved than chasing profits.

This also goes to show that majority of the people who gamble for profit are also the ones who view it as a means of earning income. But in reality, they are placing themselves in a situation where they would further incur losses overtime due to the presence of house edge.

Perhaps we really cannot change the perspective of these people given on how gambling, as a whole, is advertised as a game of chance. Both results can result to either a person winning tons amount of cash or losing more that they could afford in the process.


I humbly submit that there are people who view gambling as a form of entertainment.

I guess only a small fraction of people who has lots of money at their disposal may enjoy gambling as a whole. They like to feel that satisfaction of winning against the anxiety of losing- which are the competitive people in general (e.g. Michael Jordan, etc.).

I think a much better phrase for this is, seeing gambling as a casual hobby 🤔

If I'm gonna be completely honest, what makes gambling mainly fun is because there is a money at risk and there is a chance we can turn it to several folds -- people get the dopamine rush from this. you know, that excitement and anticipation lol

But if we see it as a hobby/form of entertainment and not some sort of way to turn your life around or make a living out of it, then I think people are more likely to make level headed decisions AKA be a responsible gambler.

I don't think there are people who gamble for fun, maybe if you are putting in a very small amount of money, then i can believe you are trying to have fun and also see if you will be lucky and win some money. I.e. so many people love football and they like to put a little amount of money on their favorite team to win, and their rivals to lose, that can be said to be fun.

However, irresponsible gamblers gamble just to make money, somone would not stake a huge sum of their money for fun, when they know they can lose it and be left with nothing. Gambling addicts would never agree that gambling is fun, they only want to become rich through it.

I have always maintained that it depends on the perspective of the individual involved in the gambling act, because when one starts doing it as fun, losing or winning might matter much in the long run wherein the gambler might see it as a lucky day because they feel lucky or a losing day because the burdens in the mind and challenges of life currently.

I prefer gambling for fun and wouldn't mind playing one or two more games if I find luck with the slightest win in the heat of the moment.
What I avoid is to repeat same gambling feat of yesterday today, simply because of the acceptable result of yesterday.

You are very correct and i completely agree with you, gambling for fun and gambling for monetary purposes is completely based on the person gambling, it is completely based on them and their financial situations, as like I stated before, some people are already very rich that, what they are looking for is what to spend their money on, and in this aspect, gambling is always one way rich people spend their money having fun, not minding how much they lose in the process, because for some of them, it's not actually losing but paying for the excitement they through gambling.

On the other, we can also see the average people who gamble, not completely for fun per say, but experience have thought them to always take whatever that come from their gambling activities, for it can't be changed, and this is why we still see several gamblers who show some form or regrets in different categories after experiencing a loss in gambling.
If gambling was generally a fun activity and everyone understands and agree to this, then no body should show regret any time they lose a bet, but unfortunately, people do and this proves otherwise that, gambling is not really fun for everyone.

Gambling is a fun thing but yes when one goes to gamble.  His aim is to win in gambling because he can make a profit in this field, so when one grows financially, there is already joy in him.  And since gambling is a hollow game, playing the game is also a different kind of fun.  All in all, gambling is fun.  Those who accept before gambling that they are going to lose their money will have more fun, but if one thinks before gambling that he will gamble because he can profit from it, then he will not have the real fun of gambling.

This topic has been discussed before in other threads, but to share opinions and experiences, there is no harm in my opinion.
Gambling should be done for fun not to make money, although there is a chance to make money but it will not be able to get it for sure. Because gambling is only likely to end in defeat. Therefore, if our goal for gambling is to make money then it is wrong. The possibility is that it will only trigger our emotions to overflow to make us lose self-control which leads to losses.

Gambling for fun is a good choice, as much as possible we should be able to use money that must be prepared to lose, because most likely the money that is bet on gambling will be lost. So we should be ready to lose the money at stake.

Responsible gambling activities will not harm gamblers. they understand that they are getting enjoyment from the games they paid for. The problem of hoping to get that win is another pleasure that all gamblers should understand.
Indeed, what is attractive about casinos or other gambling places is the promotion of winning opportunities offered. they don't advertise the fun of the game but the lure of easy wins that can be won on their site.
However, responsible gamblers can limit the finances they can afford to gamble at the casino. it has to be planned and don't take all your money in your wallet to the casino, it's quite dangerous.

In my opinion, it probably depends on the player and their purpose for gambling, whether it's purely for fun or a desire to make money. We know that money is indeed involved in gambling, and when we place a bet, we expect the possibility of winning. However, for those who are aware of the potential outcomes, winning becomes a bonus if their primary goal is simply entertainment. In my view, finding a balance between enjoying the excitement of gambling and maintaining financial responsibility is crucial.

Also, it is an addition to the entertainment factor and not to make it a day job. 

It's sad that many gamblers see it the wrong way. It's true that those who gamble for fun don't want to lose their money, who does? It's damn frustrating when that happens. But, we should not take away the fact that we should be having fun while trying to win against the house.
Sometimes gamblers are fed with the wrong idea especially if they keep on watching streamers who only show the good things that happen to them and not the bad ones. Then, there are those fake gambling streamers who are not really using their own money but they are funded by whatever gambling site they are promoting.
When newbies are pulled into this and have the thought to mimic it, that's when it all goes wrong. The purpose becomes different and they are actually not having fun anymore but instead being serious about winning everything every day which is impossible. I think I've played enough and wasted enough money to see that. RTP is surely there but it won't be like giving you everything back. Do the math using the house edge.

When you are gambling for fun means that you have already accepted whatever outcome that your bet will be, and it wouldn't matter to you, because it is something that you don't care about, winning or losing. This is why one should only use the amount of money that he can afford to lose on gamble. You should also have a time limit for your gambling activities, so that you don't get carried away with gambling, because it can lead you to addiction when you gamble too much. When you gamble responsible that is when you will enjoy the fun in gambling, but when you don't have self control over your gambling activities.

Conditions and attitudes of each gambler will always be different towards the end result of gambling so that even if they lose, if the goal is really to have fun, feelings of stress and frustration will not occur.
Likewise, if the goal is to make money and hope to win then it is clear that they will always feel like they have failed and will never be able to feel joy or satisfaction from the pleasures of gambling.
Now this will always happen forever because all gamblers will never have the same goals and approaches to gambling activities.

Of course, because in gambling, the thing that is always guaranteed is defeat and we all as gamblers must be aware of this, but in reality it will never be possible for all gamblers to have good approach because they have some kind of belief.
This belief is related to winning and also possible results in making money, they will continue to have this belief until they actually succeed in getting it.
That is why many gamblers experience problems such as addiction, attempts to recover losses or even financial problems.

Well, I can definitely buy all this your interpretation for fun, but honestly, how many newbie gamblers are going to understand that this things you said here is what gambling for fun means?
I think it's better for us to all the time, keep things plain and simple, so newbies don't get confused by it.
And one thing again you probably may not know is that, experienced gamblers gamble for fun more than newbies do, I will explain.

It is hard to find a newbie who will come into gambling just for the sole purpose of having fun, most especially the not rich ones, now don't quote me wrongly, rich men, or boys and girls who's parent are rich, living a frivolous lifestyle may definitely come into gambling as part of living their fun lifestyle, but for a poor boy who's looking for all means to change his financial situation, last thing you wanna tell such a person is to come waste the little money he has to feed on; on gambling simply for no reward but for fun.
Most poor people are desperate for money, and gambling for fun is often not in their dictionary when ever you see one gambling, for such people, it is simply experience that teaches them to gamble to have fun and not make making money off gambling a priority.

The above is from my personal experience, when I first came into gambling, I was poor, and came with this mindset of turning $1 to 1 million dollar just few week, I started gambling, weeks passed, months passed, and years passed, I still hasn't been able to turn $1 to a million dollars, and now, with my experience, I came to understand that making money from gambling is not as easy as I initially thought, and now, I am forced to gamble and simply take in good faith; what ever be the outcome, which in other words, can be equated to gambling for fun - according to your interpretation of gambling for fun.


So, in the nutshell, experience is what teaches a poor man to simply gamble for fun, poor people desperate for money don't usually come into gambling simply to have fun.

I think that it's correct to say that we don't really gamble mainly because of having fun, we gamble because humans likes to be adventurous, otherwise I don't see any other reason why you'll bet your money, knowing that the probability of loosing is far greater than winnings, yet we go ahead with it. So having fun can be a part of it but the main reason would be for the risk and reward. I've raised a topic on this gambling discussion board where I asked if gambling for fun is something that we tell ourselves to feel good t, and I got many backlash for the thread, but the truth remains that our reasons for gambling goes beyond merely having fun, we want to challenge the odds and win money.

I may not have to blame as many as possible gamblers who have already got the wrong idea and motive about what gambling is, they couldn't find a means of rescue to livelihood by the virtue of their economy or background as well as their government influence not in favor of the upcoming youths, so what they might have left on them to take as an alternative is in seeking for a means of living through gambling and that is why so many of them are addicted and busy running after losses because they cant afford to loose the money used on gambling when they know and understand what is at stake.

Right. Sure some people gamble for cash but it's all about finding the sweet spot between fun and responsibility. Responsible gamers want to enjoy themselves and make a bit of cash without going overboard. In real life it's smarter to mix things up like stable jobs, learning trading and investing in real stuff so bet your dreams on gambling like you said. Keep it real and enjoy the game without banking everything on it
