And I don't think any of those goals are incompatible with the goals of government.

The government does not want, under any circumstances, a competing legal tender.
Still sounds interesting though.

No they don't, not within their own borders anyway.  However, the CIA is not supposed to work within the borders of the USA.  So it's entirely plausible that some government agencies very much would like to see a competing legal tender in some other countries.

Anyone can claim that Satoshi is a founding member of a particular organization. We should be sceptical about it until we see a message signed by Satoshi's private key.

yeah these are going to be worse than Elvis sightings before long.

If Satoshi wants to come back, he can do so and it will be easy to know it's him. Until then, no one wake me up for any sightings!

Satoshi had backed away from the project in December 2011, only sending a few scattered emails after that before finally disappearing.

He just re-appeared as a founding member in the foundation-gang!  Wink
In which name he re-appeared?

A) Provide proof to back up your claims so people believe you.

If you read his other thread, you can see that he has provided proof:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/satoshi-dumped-bitcoin-right-after-gavin-announced-he-was-going-to-the-cia-113609

No it is a silly correlation.

Did actor Harry Morgan leave this Earth in 2011 because Gavin was going to speak at the CIA in June 2012?  One event happened before that other, so you never know....

Satoshi had backed away from the project in December 2011, only sending a few scattered emails after that before finally disappearing.

The OP is also a part of The Bitcoin Foundation. A heads up. He did accept $3,000 for reporting about Bitcoin to the CIA.

So what? Sounds like he got paid to speak about a subject on which he is knowledgable. What's the BFD?

It reeks of corruption to me. Satoshi left when Gavin announced this. Satoshi never wanted the establishment involved. Gavin does it anyways. It all makes me very worried for Bitcoin's protocol development.

Atlas is this you 'internet personality' or are you this twitchy and paranoid in real life?

You remind me of those conspiracy theorists who think the moon is a hologram created by the reptilians to hide their mothership (thousands of people believe this) and other retarded beliefs and who think that concrete proof of their claim is a YouTube video , you ignore posts asking for proof of your accusations so as far as I can tell you can either:

A) Provide proof to back up your claims so people believe you.

B) Design your own currency that fits your ideals.

Me: So a little while ago, Gavin said that there was a big announcement coming up in September. Any chance this is it?

Charlie: No, this is not it. What he's announcing is an announcement, not... Well, I don't wanna say any more.

Me: Fair enough, didn't expect you to go on-record with it if you knew.

Charlie: No, he would kill me if I said anything. He was just here recently. He would kill me.

Looks like Gavin's CIA training is beginning to pay off. I wonder just how lethal he is now.

I'm way to lazy to read/search this thread. Can someone please tell me what the result of this presentation was?

Can anyone give a real answer please?

C'mon, you guys know this took place in June. Not too hard to skip through a few pages Smiley

Not just June but June more than a year ago. It's been a dead issue for so long and Bitcoin is still here. I don't know why it was raised from the dead and but it devolved into a farce because it happened so long ago.

I'm way to lazy to read/search this thread. Can someone please tell me what the result of this presentation was?

Can anyone give a real answer please?

I just uploaded pdf and KeyNote versions of the talk I gave at the CIA last Tuesday:
 https://s3.amazonaws.com/gavinandresen-bitcoin/GavinAndresenCIATalk.pdf
 https://s3.amazonaws.com/gavinandresen-bitcoin/GavinAndresen_Bitcoin.key

I took questions in the middle, before I dove into the technical details. I was asked about whether or not I thought price instability would be a problem ("yes, I'll talk about that later") and how/why I got involved.

Later, at the panel discussion, I was asked a question that showed I need to do a better job of distinguishing bitcoin addresses and IP addresses. And I was asked if there were moral issues, since bitcoin can be used by criminals ("I'm working on bitcoin because I think the potential benefits to the world are much, much greater than the costs.")

The other speakers were from PayPal, Facebook Payments, M-Pesa, Heartland Payment Systems, and the Federal Reserve, so it was worth going just for the connections. Bitcoin is definitely the new kid on the block, and I presented it as such; not "bitcoin will take over the world" but "bitcoin is a very interesting experiment that could be world-changing if it works out."

And now... there is plenty of work to be done, so I'm going to stop reminiscing about the good old days last week....

C'mon, you guys know this took place in June. Not too hard to skip through a few pages Smiley

I'm way to lazy to read/search this thread. Can someone please tell me what the result of this presentation was?

A computer chip was inserted into Gavin's brain, rendering him a remote controlled operative of the CIA. He has given all the secret keys to the government and is helping to identify all bitcoin users who use Silk Road and who donate to wikileaks.

Also, it was recently revealed that Gavin is, in fact, an alien.

The chip also had the unforeseen side effect of splitting Gavin's consciousness into several distinct personalities, including, but probably not limited to, Phinnaeus, Atlas, and pirateat40. CIA technicians are hard at work writing the program for his ultimate mission: hunting down Satoshi and returning his/her brain for study. Little do they know, Satoshi's identity was discovered several months ago by a secretive cabal of Bitcoin worshipers and his/her brain has been divided into three equal portions and is in the custody of Nefario, Matthew, and Vladimir, to be reunited when the blockchain is in imminent danger, as foretold in the Great Prophecy of ENIAC in 1954.

You know, it's absurd conspiracy theories like this that give bitcoin a bad name. Everyone knows that the ENIAC "prophecy" was debunked long ago by the researchers at XEROX PARC. There is no shred of evidence to suggest that it should be taken seriously, and anyone who continues to cling to that failed machine's teachings needs to have the chip in their brain examined.

Okay, this thread is beginning to get way off-topic but let me just say that I'm very surprised that anyone would take the "research" coming out of XEROX PARC at face value. If there was nothing to ENIAC's warnings then why was Xerox systematically eliminating or brain-washing everyone who sought to publicize it? Thankfully, Jobs and Gates had the foresight to have it secretly encoded into their DNA so that it might at least be passed down through their progeny.

Jobs and Gates are well known frauds and charlatans! Sure, the computer journalism industry gives them credibility (because they're controlled by ENIAC maniacs) but the truth was laid out by Richard Stallman quite clearly. Even Linus Torvald stated-

You know what, screw this conversation. Obviously you're a paid disinfo agent spreading nonsense just to screw with people's minds. I have better things to do with my time than sit here and argue with someone who has no interest whatsoever in the truth about computational eschatology.
