I feel dumb, but I've been going round and round with my new 2pac for hours. Admitted noob. Received stick miner 2pac and powered USB hub with usb fan for cooling. I am on my MacBook pro and can't seem to get it to recognize the device. Having trouble with configuration as a result.

Tried running the code mentioned in the Q&A and it did not resolve. Getting varying messages when I run MacMiner. What am I overlooking here? My software is pointed at the correct mining pool address and when it connects it says No Devices Found. I have been digging through pages and pages on here trying to figure out what's wrong. Can anyone help with this specific issue?

The instructions in this thread cover different flavors of Unix and Windows. If you're looking for easy, you should run Bootcamp and install Windows in it, download the binaries on the first page, and go from there.

If you want it to run natively on your Mac, you need to build the version of cgminer from the source code linked on the first page. This requires some comfort with software development tools.

You could also install a linux variant (like Ubuntu) on Bootcamp and run that with the instructions. Most of the people in this thread run it on raspberry pi.

When I need to run cgminer on my Mac (when I travel, I'll take a few miners with me for the free electricity), I just boot up an Ubuntu VM using VMWare Fusion.  The Ubuntu instructions in this thread work perfectly to build cgminer from scratch.  No problems recognizing the 2-pacs (or other miners, for that matter).  Just make sure you have the VMWare USB and networking settings in order.

Your code above should work - do you see the miner in the custom miners in minera?

Note that you enter this in SSH, not through minera.

You need to SSH into the minera Pi and enter these commands.

I am sorry if I'm posting too much in the thread.   But for the benefit of others in the same situation.  Could somebody help provide the code for Minera in Raspberry Pi?    

Minera has a dedicated terminal for entering code, including GekkoScience Pac2.

Somebody in the old GekkoScience Compac BM1384 thread compiled Raspberry Pi3 code that would setup Gekkoscience AND Minera.   I think that could be a super helpful tool.    Obviously I am asking for GekkoScience for Dummies type information here, which isn't too far from the truth.

Once again, I'm sorry if I'm talking too much here.   But I'll ask in case it helps people.

Important is to compile the CGMiner with the Gekko support. Then it will be recognized in the USB menü. Try starting CGMiner and then hotplug the stick.

Is my gekko Pac2 recognized by Raspberry Pi?  I don't see it .... do you?

I just got my 2Pac running either. I used CGMiner. You have to compile it youself so that you can make sure that the Gekko driver is compiled in.
I just did it exactly like written on page 1:

Hello All,

      I'm a bit out of my element here, with the Pac2 and a Raspberry Pi3.     After 20 hours this week trying to get mining to work I am asking for help.  

After install GekkoDrivers on page one of our thread, then what?

How can I confirm that the Pac2 is recognized by the Pi ?  

How to start mining?  Is there a simple miner that just ... works (given a pool address and worker)?  

One user on the thread here suggested that BFGMiner might work.    

The Raspberry version of CGMiner let me connect to a pool, but I don't know if i the Pac2 was actually mining.

Or maybe I can try using this Linux code (from Minergate website)?

First, you will need to build the miner. Consecutively enter the commands below to do it.
sudo apt-get install cmake build-essential libboost-all-dev
git clone https://github.com/feeleep75/nheqminer.git
cd nheqminer/nheqminer
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make

Once you do it, run the miner with the following command:
cd ./nheqminer/nheqminer/build


To start mining with your CPU, enter
./nheqminer -l zec.pool.minergate.com:3357 -u YOUR_EMAIL


To stop the process, enter
Ctrl + C


ALSO I tried installing Minera on SD card, and was successful at viewing the GUI via IP address.   But in Minera I couldn't configure settings (in Terminal, etc) to make the thing work.  

Any help is VERY appreciated!

A few observations and a question from a new 2Pac owner. Will try to limit eye-rolling numbskullery in my first post. I've read perhaps 60% of this thread and will be embarrassed if I repeat an answered question.

I have a single 2Pac bought off ebay because I wanted to play with a single unit. Mining on slushpool for giggles, and have been running at various speeds and difficulties for a few days. Network latency has a noticeable effect on scoring hashrate for me, and the best I've managed to date it a ~5 hour sustained period of scoring hashrate of ~26 GH/s.

It's nice hardware, and I hope sidehack's proud.

Run overnight with minimum difficult 512 sustained ~20.5 GH/s scoring hashrate from my current high-latency network location. @375 MHz.

Bumping up to 425 MHz and difficulty 128 it's heading back up to ~24 GH/s At any clockspeed It's difficult sustaining WU/m > 320, but 375-425 MHz gets the highest scoring hashrate on this stick. (One half hour chunk of time @ 29 MH/s scoring hashrate. Think it'd be higher still if slushpool accepted difficulty < 128 and I was running in the low latency network.)

Running a USB hub with a hacked in buck converter I've limited to to 3 amps, and attached to a dirty great copper heatsink from an old Xeon server, I'm sitting at 35°C @ 425 MHz.

I have quite a few heatsinks from retired servers. The current style would fit 6 or 8 2Pacs and still be well under the TDP capacity of the heatsink. I have a small machining shop and will probably muck about with back side heatsink clamps to increase evenness and clamp force. Leftover watercooling and phase change will probably come into play at some point too, not because it's cost effective, but because it's amusing.

My particular stick has a 0.258 V difference between the two ASICs. N0 always has the lower voltage across the cap. Inrush current can be an issue when starting cgminer, and I'm contemplating some PCB mods for grossly oversized low ESR tantalum caps to see if this helps.

Questions for the delightful curmudgeon, or anyone else who's had at these with a soldering iron:

1) Is the voltage difference between the N0 and N1 ASIC something I can remedy with careful installation of a precision multiturn trimpot in parallel (or series, to avoid R=0 smokeletting) with an existing resistor? I appreciate the risk inherent in this.

2) I'm in Australia and local purchasing options are borked. I'd like to buy 10-20 2pac sticks, whatever quantity is worth sidehack's time. Never mind, found the email address in the [FOR SALE] post.
If I successfully purchase 20 I'll probably shift up to 10 units to desirous AU residents at slightly above total cost to me. Because I think it's funny and am curious about the imminent pod miner, I'll drop any small profit back in sidehack's development fund.

I can probably offer a few ex-server heatsinks drilled and tapped for 2pac to the local market as well, but I'm in this for fun and education. Oh, and recycling.


EDIT: Had it running at 500 MHz for a couple of hours with 0 HW err, but hash rate topped at 21 GH/s. 325 MHz seems to be the most productive speed @ 0.731V  36 GH/s.

If you want to compile your own, you'll need to install brew on macOS. This is macOS version of apt-get (debian/ubuntu linux), but some of the module (?) names are not the same. For example, brew wants libusb not libusb-1.0.0

You can try running this cgminer 3.9.2 for mac: http://macminer.fabulouspanda.com/commandline/cgminer/
It might see your gekkoscience 2pac as AMU. Hash rate won't be high... but it'll test to see if the hardware is recognized.

What kind of powered hub did you get? do you have a link?

Neither "gecko-comp-freq" or "gekko-comp-freq" are real flags, due to various misspellings or truncations. Anything cgminer doesn't recognize as a valid flag will throw that error. Spelling matters.

I have both miners and same error even with removing the --gecko-comp-freq for the first sidehack miner.............

Q. How can I set a different frequency for the 2Pac vs the Compac?

cgminer will accept one or both parameters for the stick.

20 gh/s won't even make you a penny per day. You need th/s to see anything. Difficulty 32 of course will have accepted share. Higher diff Means fewer acceptable shares of any before the new block. If the new block comes quickly you won't be able submit acceptable shares.

i have been using NiceHashLegacy and love it how i could just start mining and see my workers on their page

... Yes, of course they are 5V. That is the voltage spec for USB devices...
What matter is how much current PER-PORT the hub will provide. You want to have at least 2A (2000ma) per-port to run a 2PAC at nice speeds. As a general search, look for 'Charging hubs' made to power tablets and such.

Um there is a thread not to far away specifically about powered hubs and 2PAC's...

edit: Ok, so the thread was 3 pages in so   here is 2PAC powerd hub thread.

good to know I will be pack when I get a better usb hub. fyi it really sucks that the ones they are usually are not available on amazon anymore, but at least I know what I am looking for so 10-12amps per usb slot should be plenty I hope

 You wont find a commercially available hub with specs like that.  Charging ports are 2.1A and you generally can't charge and transfer data at the same time.  If you can find something ~2A per port that does both, buy it!  Also, watch the rating on the power supply - most powered hubs come with a shitty 40watt adapter these days which means you can't use all the ports at the same time.
