I don't see if Dortmund have the potential to compete in the Bundesliga this season, currently they are in 7th place with a fairly far point difference (10 points) from the top of the standings, I think a higher position as you say is not the 1st rank, means that if Dortmund is only aiming for the top 4 zone and not the champion of course they are no different from what happened in the previous seasons, currently, Dortmund should have a greater goal and ambition to win the Bundesliga than just winning UCL tickets every seasons.

I think as off now, the way the team looks and plays, even 4th place feels like a long shot to be honest. They can't even beat the weaker teams so what will happen when they are facing other strong ones.
Got a bad feeling about this season, I really think they will miss out on the champions league spots next season, which will cost them a lot of money which also means transfers will have to be made, players sold and cheaper players signed. This might spiral into something bad for the next years.
