The victory of Leverkusen as Bundlesliga champions last season was magical which has boosted their confidence in the league but about this new season it's very obvious with how they are starting off that they can't repeat the spell of retaining the title no matter how they try because other opponents like Bayern Munich, Brussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig look very set and prepared for them, especially Bayern Munich because to them it's somehow a challenge that Leverkusen had to strip them of their birth right and letting Leverkusen retaining it this season is very unlikely.
Their run was a fairytale in the real world, as Xabi Alonso Leverkusen became the first Bundesliga team to go unbeaten all season, winning the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in the same fashion, and almost pulling off another miracle in the Europa League. That historic feat is unlikely to be repeated, with Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Leipzig all growing in strength at the same time. However, even though that record has been halted by Leipzig, Leverkusen chances of retaining the title are still very much alive.
Bayer Leverkusen still has the oppurtunitty win the Bundesliga because the league is still young. They still have the quality players since they retained most players who made them champions last season. What is certain now is that they will not maintain their unbeaten run this season since they have already lost a game. The Xabi Alonso side was defeated by RB Leipzig making them to lose three points. The league is competitive with good sides like Bayern Munich with some of the best players in Europe. The surprising leader of the table now is Heidenheim, while Leverkusen is in the eighth position.
That's right, the Bundesliga is only two games old, meaning there are still 32 games to go, so it's still a long way to go before we know what will happen at the end of the season. The league table is not yet fully formed, the points gap is still very small, and there will be many challenges for each contestant to face first. The Bundesliga has become increasingly competitive with the end of Bayern Munich dominance last season, and this season we expect more teams to be involved in the hunt for trophies.
We have seen Bayern perform well in most of the matches, but when they get the chances they need the most, they fail. And I hope they rise to the occasion even though I love them too. But I also have an idea of their performance. Yes, that's fine, but the fun is when they win the matches they need to win. If they lose this league, their performance will not be considered good. Because all the hard work they have put in to win this league will be wasted. And now they have to win for their defeat by conquering each of them. Because in this league they have given name with good performance. Hopefully, Bayern will play well from earlier and win the match they are striving for.
Kompany is fully responsible for Bayern Munich performance this season, with the former Burnley manager being asked to lead the German giants back to glory. It's no easy task for a young, inexperienced manager, but with the squad he has at his disposal, it should be more than enough to reclaim the domination he lost.
