Bochum managed to turn things around by beating Fortuna Düsseldorf via a penalty shootout. It's amazing that no one thought that Fortuna Düsseldorf would fail to qualify for the Bundeliga next season, even though in the first leg they played very well when they hosted Bochum and they won at Bochum's home ground but instead they lost at home.
In the second match Fortuna Düsseldorf was the host, but no one expected Bochum to play optimally last night, the 0-3 defeat at home did not have a bad impact on the mentality of the Bochum players, but what happened was that Bochum managed to equalize so this match had to be continued to penalty shootout which resulted in Fortuna Düsseldorf losing 5-6 to Bochum, which means Bochum can still survive in the Bundesliga next season.
This is the team's mentality that makes everything different, Bochum proved that they are more worthy of staying in the Bundesliga next season, this was a very dramatic match.
Next season, the Bundesliga will welcome two new teams from the Bundesliga 2, St. Pauli and Holstein Kiel. St. Pauli will return to the top flight after a 13-year absence. Their fans definitely will be eager and anticipating their comeback, hoping that the team can establish themselves and avoid a quick relegation. For Holstein Kiel, their promotion is historic, marking their first-ever appearance in the Bundesliga. However, their main goal will be survival, which will require strengthening their squad to compete with the already established teams in the top league.
The playoff stage saw Bochum, who finished 16th in the Bundesliga, face off against Fortuna Düsseldorf. The first leg took place at Bochum's home ground, giving them an opportunity to the host advantage. Also, it was not an easy task, as Fortuna Düsseldorf did their best to be very impressive in the Bundesliga 2 and this play off game this season. Bochum needed to be extra cautious of Fortuna's top scorer, Christos Tzolis, who had been in top form, including a hat-trick in their recent victory over Magdeburg.
Bochum's home advantage was not really important because they lost wholly in the first leg and they had in mind that they'll need to be at their best to outdo a strong and confident Düsseldorf side in the second leg. The outcome of this playoff will determine who earns a spot in the Bundesliga, making it a high-stakes encounter for both teams. In the second leg game, yes suffering a defeat ahead, they put their best to equalizing and even winning the game on penalties. The result of the encounter clearly proves the class and level difference of both teams.
First of all, it was a great comeback from Bochum in the second leg. there is almost 0 chance that they will be able to pull that off. Philipp Hofmann was on fire in this match, scoring 2 goals single-handedly, and then Kevin Stöger neutralized the score. After that, they were able to win on penalties. It must feel great for them to actually be able to stay in the Bundesliga. I do not think there is anything to actually talk about when it comes to that advantage for a certain team. The way I see it is the team which got beaten pretty badly in the first leg was able to make a very very good comeback in the second leg. they definitely deserved the win that they got. Some people might say that they got the win by penalties, that’s why a lot of people say that they did not deserve to win. Just like some people said Argentina did not deserve to win the World Cup because they actually won in penalties. They forget that penalties are also a very crucial part of the game.
But I will say this, I somewhat did not expect this to be so competitive. I actually thought that Bochum would be able to win pretty easily or at least not going to face this much problem.
