I still believed that bitcoin is still the best coins,so until now i am holding my bitcoin but if ever i have extra money i am planning to buy some ethereum.
I think you can see in the best list of 10 big coins in the coinmarketcap ( https://coinmarketcap.com/ ) there like Ethreum, Rippel, Bitcoin Cash, Eos, Litekoin, Cardano, Stellar, Iota and tron I think it's good for the long term because the project is definitely good.
Its good that you dont like investing in the ICO's because they are very risky investments anyway. The world has moved very fast and time has come where only coins with potential to grow and listed on the CMC or exchangers will give us best benefits. They are also not much risky as we can always trade them over the exchanger if something goes wring.

Yes the good coin that was worth it to buy and hor for a long term now is no other than bitcoin. But today ethereum is also countable to the good coin for a long term investment so I am recommending either bitcoin or ethereum because both is a good kind of cryptocurrency that could brought you a good profit and benifits..
Buy bitcoin for a long term hold and keep buying the deep and then if you know how to sell the bounce, you can continue to sell and double than on your buying when the price go lower!
I recommend Peculium(PCL) because it has great long term plans and it is really a promising project and have a great team.
There are mamy coins available in market which are good for investment but if you think about long term investment then i recommend you to invest in top 10 coins of coinmarketcap beacause this coins are more popular and they will definitely give you huge profits in future. Hyrdo and Netkoin are one of the recent trending coins these days bit i'm not sure if this is only a bubble. Nevertheless, you can still add it into your considerations. But if I will have a chnace to pick a coin/s for a long term investment then I'll go with Ethereum because it's very obvious that it is good for long term investment since it maintained his position (being 2nd) in the market for a very long time until now. Another one is Ripple because it is now on the 3rd spot and able to beat famous coins before such as Dogecoin and Litecoin, amazing right? It only means that this coin has a lot of potentials.

I believe that at this point coin can give you the security for your long term investment that is ETH. You can see that ETH is a very valuable coin and second in terms of market capitalization. ETH with great applications and is the coin of the super good coin.
