Just received notice from Bittrex that the GRC issue with them has been resolved and it's no longer disabled.

People that upgraded to 3.5.4.9 were the ones reporting problems. I'm still on 3.5.4.8 and I'm synced up. Until I hear something from a dev or Bittrex I'm not updating. I don't see anything in the OP about a mandatory update unless I somehow missed it.
I was running 4.8 version earlier and i had syncing issue. Wallet was stuck out of sync and i did upgrade to 4.9 now and since then my wallet is running up to date with block explorer. I havent tested any transaction yet but wallet out of sync issue is gone with latest version at least.

GRC has been disabled on Bittrex for the better part of 2 days so I contacted them. This is their reply.
Some people reported that they lost coins after the latest wallet update. If there is a fork that would explain lost coins. I'm not going to update until this is sorted out and someone can confirm or deny that there is a fork on the network.

Up again and working fine, it seems. I also have 7 peers at the moment, but the wallet is taking AGES to sync... Not a very promising start...
I think I will rund the BOINC projects just for the good of it, but it would be nice to have some extra Gridcoin reward as well.

today, Gridcoin reaches the lowest reward phase with the last reduction of block rewards. The protocol will stay at this level regardless of new and growing BOINC users.
Proof-of-Research consists for one part of Proof-of-Stake paying interest to stakeholders for securing the blockchain and for the other part of Proof-of-BOINC with a block subsidy paid towards active research participants. A comparison of those different proof mechanisms was done by user RTM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSg2Dt61DQs
At this stage, the Max Block Subsidy is reduced from 75 to 50 GRC.
Interest on positive balances is reduced from 3.0 percentage points to 1.5 percentage points per year.

Are you setting up wallet to POR mining for the first time?
Thanks for your response.
I have compiled the code for third time, due to previous issues and git-hub updates.
The gridcoinresearch.conf file was updated twice due to changes of the location of BOINC data files I decided to make in order to optimise partitions usage.
The email address obtained in there remains untouched from the first time I have started the wallet.
