what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
January 07, 2018, 07:34:30 AM

Yeah, newegg.com absolutely does.  I did a bit more reading and it seems likely that you need to open a bitpay account/wallet in order to use that option but any advice from Phil or others who have used it would still be appreciated.

cant help here  I dont pay newegg with btc.

This happen to me just last week when I tried to pay my January hosting bill at GND.
After talking to GND.... the solution was to install Bitpay app on your mobile (I use a Samsung Note 8 ).
I never did have to do that - looks like Bitpay changed their internal process and forcing everyone to use their app.
Fund your Bitpay wallet (treat it like a mobile wallet) and use their builtin QR scanner to pay.
Good luck.

or use mycelium (mine is on android). worked for me at newegg. scan qt code and go.

Can someone who has paid BTC for NewEgg purchases help me out possibly?

I just tried to do this for the first time but got stuck at this point:

- I want to pay from either my Bittrex wallet as I sold off a few alts in order to pay this invoice (I assume this is possible).

- After choosing Bitcoin payment option on NewEgg, the bitpay window pops up wit hteh QR code (on the scan tab) for a phone scan.  Since I want to pay with exchange wallet, I click on the Copy tab and the exact amount of BTC appears, along with a URL that starts with bitcoin... https//bitpay.com.... followed by a string of numbers that doesnt look long enough to be a BTC address.

- The instruction say to copy that full URL into your wallet's send screen, but I don't think this will work in the BTC address field send screen on Bittrex, will it?  Doesnt that need to be a standard BTC address only?

Am i missing something or can you not send payment from an exchange wallet like this?

yeah that format sucks. i used mycelium on android. scan the qt code and go. even fills in all the data (invoice #, USD price, btc amount, merchant - newegg in my case) in the mycelium transaction screen. so that part is nice.

doesnt core have something like that? set core up as the default payment processor for things like that? never tried it so dunno.

I've only used my electrum wallet a few times, just copy the amount and address into it was all i had to do.

there is this note on top of the Bitcointalk page ... I think you need to be careful if you are using Electrum

"News: ♦ Critical vulnerablity in Electrum; SHUT DOWN ELECTRUM IMMEDIATELY and upgrade. Other clients are fine. More info."

The server PSUs that I like are the HP 1,500w common slot PSU (yellow label on top, takes 220v) and the DPS-2000BB (220v).  I use them with breakout boards, not wires.  You can strap or screw in a heatsink on the HP 1500w units and that will help keep them cool and the fan noise to a minimum.  Easy to fit one of these into a 4U Rosewill case (HP PSU).  Can't speak to the particular one on Ebay.
Quote
DO you use a passive heatsink or one with a fan? I presume you just dab some thermal paste on and zip tie it to the exterior of the PSU? Noise isn't a problem for the server PSUs out in our dedicated mining portion of our barn, but if we ever have any in the house it certainly would be an issue...

Depends.  In an open rig, simply passive.  Take out six screws, remove the top, apply thermal paste, clamp the heat sink to the top, drill, screw in four screws.  In a 4U, I place the HP along the floor of where a normal ATX power supply would fit and I mount a fan on the outside back of the case to blow cool air over the fins.  You can also zip tie to keep the heat sink in contact with the top of the HP.

I use these heat sinks:

Does anyone using a K35 8 GPU motherboard know if the fan headers on it are speed controlled or just on full tilt? I can't see anything fan-related in the BIOS…

I love this thread, so much knowledge! Cheesy

Could you guys give me some advice on PSUs?

I'm going to build a couple of 12/13 GPU rigs, and the plan is to use 1x HP 1200W server PSU with breakout board, per 6GPUs.
I'm thinking: 12 PCI cables on each PSU is perfect, 6 plugs for the GPU's and 6 for the riser cards. (I'm only going to use 6pin risers from now on, tired of molex to sata adapters melting Tongue)

And I would use a cheap ATX PSU to power the motherboard, ssd, fans and the 13th GPU.

This is the plan for the RX 570 rigs, the GPUs only have 1x 8pin power connector, but how should I do it on cards that got 8+6 pin? Or even 8+8?
Is it true that I can run a card with just 1x 8pin plug, even tho it comes with two? What are the risks?

I'm going for 7 12/13 GPUs in total in this round:
3x RX 570
2x 1070 Ti
2x 1080 Ti

Thoughts on this?

This is the case I'm using:

Very diy Grin but I guess it'll do the job. I'll fix the thing to the 6x Vega rig tomorrow.

this is cool

compared to mine, this looks better and tidy

how do you daisy chain the power on the 3 fans ?

looks pretty tidy actually. is that bracket on top one of those rails you slot shelf brackets into?

i just cant help but wonder if it would hover if you lay it on its side while plugged in..

Apologies if you feel I broke a rule, it wasn't my intention. I was merely pointing to the choice that is given to anyone around here and the easy possibility for long-standing members to make an extra buck or two.

I don't take any part per se. Just use the arbitrage opportunity that is given. Just like mining. Smiley

Grin let's keep it simple dragonmike - Phil's thread is all about knowledge sharing - all these ICOs could be discussed sparingly but putting them in sigs etc is a bit much.
Heh, I thought sharing how to make an extra buck with altcoins in the altcoins thread was a good idea! Cheesy
For the records, I delete all those sleezy ICO pm's as soon as they come. I always research the coins I put in my signatures before I do so.

Has anyone had any luck with the various server PSUs on ebay?

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2400W-10GPU-Mining-Power-Supply-For-Eth-Rig-Ethereum-BTC-Miner-Dedicated-90-PLUS/352236174282?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D986116ef2daf49a8935ce44d07305446%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D263420036873&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%253Ad3593131-f315-11e7-b1b1-74dbd1802c4f%257Cparentrq%253Acce55ef91600ab66f206ed05ffec64f5%257Ciid%253A1

It looks like its just housing two HP Server PSUs, my only issue would be with the reliability of the wires as opposed to a breakout board option.

With Parallel miner having no stock I was hoping someone else had some ideas on server PSUs, in Canada a lot of the ATX PSU deals are pricey after shipping

i use this as well. works great. search for "add2psu" there are several variants but all work the same. uses a relay powered by the master psu to switch on the slave psu.

just beware i hear there are cheap knockoffs.
I moved to this style instead:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074DQJY8K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There is a version for 3 PSUs I'm not finding now that it's IMHO much better than using 2 Add2PSU

i dislike the fact there are 2 more sets of contacts for the atx 24 pin power for the mobo to go through. the less connectors the better (voltage drop/resistance/heat). probably insignificant so not really an issue (hopefully) but less connections = less failure points. the add2psu has none of those drawbacks. but hey if it works..

i do remember seeing a bunch of those back in the day of gpu btc mining, around when ribbon style pci extenders were all the rage.

BTW you can daisy chain add2psus to add more than one psu as well. i think i read about some guy daisy chaining like 6 psus with add2psus for some monster rig.

If I do a signature again  it would be for smos  btw he is in my signature  for free $0 no payment.
Thanks Phil, you just reminded me to post in his thread, I've only been asking for Alexis ccminer for 6 months now. OS is good decent an all, but really REALLY shitty slow support.

Pulling 68 Mh/s on an smos rig, and 85 Mh/s on windows using the proper miner.

You know you can add your own miners to SMOS, right? I think GravityMaster's FAQ even addresses Alexis miner directly with step by step instructions IIRC. I mean, I get it (and don't disagree about the slowness), you're paying for something and would like to see some service but considering what SMOS costs, you can either expect to have to do some things yourself or wait.

Does it NEED those P106's though? Can it run 16 cards (8 nvidia and 8 AMD)?

If I remember correctly BBT started with p106's and started adding normal GPU's to max it out instead of the other way around.  I would check the latest BIOS/chipset drivers for updates on compatibilty, but 8 normal Nvidia and 8 amd should work fine, or start with 13 AMD and add Nvidia one at a time.  The worst part of that board is the crazy loading times and then trying to load OC values after that.  Seems more feasible to stick with 8-13 GPU motherboards.

Manual specifies 13 "normal" cards max.

I'm still trying to figure out WHY that limitation exists, there is no LOGICAL reason for it.

As mining cards have no video outputs, I think there may be some system limitations that don't apply to them. That's the only thing I can think of that makes some sort of sense.
