I see a lot of people here talking about gambling responsibly. Yes, that is something very true, but have you ever been a gambling addict?
I used to be a gambling addict, I used the salary I earned every day for gambling. I have to admit that it is very difficult to get rid of the habit of gambling, let alone winning frequently, but after a long time, I felt like I was losing because I didn't have any savings due to my habit. Now I'm still an active gambler, but a little more responsible than I once was.
Only we ourselves can control the habit or addiction of gambling, you have to realize that every money you earn must be allocated in part for family needs and have a little savings. Every activity you do must be balanced with the responsibilities you have on your shoulders. Being a responsible gambler can free you from problems you never realized.

Good for you brother. That's the right way. Others could not get away from it so a big congratulations to you.

Gambling addiction is such a big problem today because of the ease of access to gambling sites. I wish they could be strict about the registration of their customers because there's a big chance that kids are with us gambling their way too and are now prone to what you have experienced.
I have kids, that's why I want this to happen so much. We will never know when they will bump into one gambling site from the advertisements that are coming out on both social media and other applications that they are installing especially games.
There's one android application that I have seen doing that and I know they have no control over their advertisement but at least it should be blocked by an ad blocker so that kids won't see it. That's not the case though, worse, they are offering premium items by watching advertisements and I don't think that's a good thing.
Anyway, I already uninstalled that app and told my kid to never install it again. I don't want them to end up as gambling degenerates.

As long you are really that having a good control with your finances then it should really be just that fine. There are really just those people who are really that getting derailed with their
gambling activity on the time that they would really be making themselves impulsive on the time that they would be playing. In my time or moment on dealing with gambling then i had never ever
made myself being a gambling addict. Why? I do only spend on the amount on which i do or can afford to lose and never ever go into going into beyond limits.
People do usually mess up on the time that they would really be that going past into those limitations on which it is something that you shouldnt really be doing in the first place.
Gambling could wreck up your life if you arent that thinking carefully or making actions that well.
This means that when gambling, we really have to have good self-control so as not to slip into gambling activities until we become addicted to gambling. Gambling addiction is a very big and serious problem that the gambler must treat before his gambling addiction turns worse. We can actually still control ourselves well when gambling so that we don't exceed the limits we have set. Only with self-control can we avoid all the problems that gambling will cause. Yes, gambling can ruin your life if you are not careful in gambling and managing the money you use for gambling.

Many have become victims of the harmful effects of gambling if they are addicted to it, of course their lives will become messy if they are addicted to gambling, in my opinion gambling addiction can change a person's life to be more dominant to miserable, because his mind only thinks about gambling and only that, not thinking about anything else, they tend to do everything to be able to return to gambling if they have run out of money and their savings, What they don't want is their savings that they take to use for gambling, borrowing here and there for gambling too, if they have the courage to borrow here and there for gambling, you can be sure that their lives will not be calm because they are in debt, and if they still like to gamble it will be difficult to be able to replace the debt, even if they have money it is unlikely that they will pay the debt, but are more concerned with their gambling activities which have become a habit that is difficult and they cannot leave. So this addiction is difficult to break even some people almost fail when they try to leave this habit.

If someone is gambling and believes it's too much and still has the self-control in it, that is not an addiction to me, it's a mere hobby for the person. You can engage in your hobby for as long as you like, but when it's getting to the level that you can't easily say No to it when you want to, and perhaps taking more of your time and attention thereby causing the lack of focus in better things of life, then this is the time you can call it an addiction and start fighting it. It's a very good thing for the person when he realises it all by himself, the next step is to start making efforts to restrain himself from it. It would always be easy if the person has a strong mind, this helps easily to pull out of addiction simply by letting go by taking a temporary break from it.

It is probably when the personal effort is not working that the person should proceed for external help where friends and family could be involved. And my advice to those who can't overcome their addiction by themselves is that they should not wait for too long for people to notice. When they can't control it over time, they should immediately call the attention of their friends or family or both to it before it gets too ugly.
Everything depends on the self-control that each gambler has so that if he can still control himself, he can still gamble well and enjoy gambling. But don't make gambling a hobby because it can make you forgetful and unable to control yourself. Having a gambling hobby can make you addicted to gambling, so it will only ruin your life until you are unable to get up again. But most people will lose control of themselves when they gamble too often and can't control themselves because the temptation of gambling is so great that it keeps making them gamble again. He had become addicted to gambling to the point where he couldn't think about himself and even lost track of time and everything. This is what every gambler must be aware of so that they do not turn into gamblers who are addicted to gambling, and it will only give them more problems.

If they make gambling a hobby they will accept very dangerous risks as they gamble will also make their lives ruined like you said that, also they can forget other things because they only focus on gambling, it's bad if they can't control themselves with gambling because they will lose and it's not from money alone many things will also be affected by gambling.

People who are addicted to gambling can look for someone in their family or friends to talk about their problem so that there is help that can help them get out of their gambling addiction problem. Hopefully, the person who is addicted to gambling can find someone who can really help him get out of his gambling addiction problem so that he can have a normal life again. It is indeed difficult. It is not easy to tell other people about the problem because it is related to gambling addiction, but he really has to tell it so that his gambling addiction problem can be resolved.

I think it will just be a waste of their time. it is difficult to make those who are already addicted and however difficult it is for them to be aware of what they are doing, they don't have to look for friends or family, if they realize what they are doing is losing them, then they can stop again, it's useless if they look for friends or family to be friends to talk about solving their addiction solutions but they themselves still want to gamble. If they want to stop they should be able to avoid high-risk things such as borrowing money, avoid places or people related to gambling, do not socialize with friends who gamble. Instead of spending hours playing gambling, they can call a family member or friend to meet for coffee but do not let what is discussed lead to gambling. Or they can distract themselves from wanting to gamble with activities like watching movies, doing mindfulness exercises like deep breathing, or going to the gym. Maybe this will help them to leave their addiction behind that is already attached to them. So in my opinion, before anyone else then they themselves must do it consistently. The key is that they themselves will determine the future because after all they will run it themselves.

In my opinion that is one of the keys to gambling, with good self-control it will avoid addiction. because many people cannot control themselves when gambling and unconsciously they have become an addict because they continue to gamble without thinking about the losses they have felt, and when they get a win if they have good control they will cash it in without thinking about anything else or chasing back a bigger victory.

Because most of those who do not have good self-control, when they get a win they choose to continue the game by pursuing a bigger win which of course may be impossible to get, because not always luck will always be on their side. Even if they have friends who always remember not to gamble again, in my opinion it will not work to resist the feeling of wanting to gamble again because of the absence of good control so that they can ignore the words suggested by their friends. So really the key is good self-control to be able to limit gambling by not overdoing it.
Self-control is the most important thing that gamblers who want to gamble responsibly must possess. Unfortunately, many have lost their responsibility in gambling, so they actually become addicted to gambling and, even worse, gambling addiction. Many of them have lost money from gambling, and even their lives have been ruined because of irresponsible gambling. That's why we really have to take care of ourselves by gambling responsibly, but actually, if we can't be responsible when gambling, we don't need to take that risk because it could endanger our lives and those of our families.

I read what you said from the top, you talked about self-control only, do you think that is the main key in gambling?
They must have a self-control commitment that can limit them when playing gambling, with that they will not become severely addicted to gambling. Most of those who can't limit their gambling so that they can spend a lot of money and it's detrimental to themselves, it has nothing to do with me,  but if I have a family member who is like that, I will leave them alone without helping them in any way, until they realize by themselves that what they are doing is something that is detrimental to themselves. Gambling addiction can also cause problems in family relationships because the mentality that will change because of the defeat they always get will make them more aggressive and become more easily emotional. Here it is also seen that they have lost self-control.

Many gamblers who win choose to continue gambling even though they know and realize that continuing to gamble will not provide a greater chance of winning the gambling game. They are willing to accept the risk and actually continue gambling so that, in the end, they end up having a losing streak that wastes all their money without any money remaining. This is what we must avoid, especially if we want to be responsible gamblers, because by continuing to gamble, the risks we face will be greater, and perhaps we will not be able to accept it.

I disagree with what you said, I think that those who gamble cannot accept the risks that they should accept  only a few people have thought about what will happen to them if they gamble excessively, most of them do not think about the risks from the beginning, because they only think about the victory they will get so they don't think about the risk, And if they have lost a lot of money and always experience defeat, sometimes they still think about gambling again to restore the losses they have felt, there is no end to that, they will continue to play and lose and then think of ways to be able to restore the situation and continue like that until they run out of all their money and property until they have nothing left except the clothes they wear. Only then will they realize what they've lost. If they are already addicted to gambling it is difficult to cure them, because what is damaged is their thinking so they may have to go to a psychological expert. Because what they have to do first is change their thinking, how to get rid of their thoughts that always want to gamble.

To be honest in the past I have spent a lot of money gambling. What I mean here is that I spent all my savings on gambling. Maybe the nominal amount is not that big but it makes me feel like a gambling addict. I spent 5 months of my savings on gambling. Currently I am aware and am in the stage of improving my own financial condition. Have you ever felt like a gambling addict? and how much did you lose in gambling?

       -  I have never experienced anything like what you experienced, and I don't want to experience anything like that. Because when I gamble, I make sure that I only control and limit what I gamble.

Because this is what I have started and made a habit of as a gambler, and this is also what a responsible gambler should say. Just play and enjoy the games. As long as you win and lose, you both enjoy them, and you don't take them seriously.

If you have not experienced an addiction then you are lucky so far because you can still control your self-control well and you can refrain from being tempted or attracted by what you see in gambling places, because this kind of behavior is very difficult to do. and only a few people do it. who can escape the temptation of gambling.

With a good start, the future will also be good for yourself of course, and behaving responsibly will show the person to minimize losses or risks in gambling so as not to expect profits that are too big, if one day he loses then he thinks that's it. commonplace in gambling and he was not a burden because he only lost a little money.

When you can't help or control yourself in gambling, that's when the real problem starts. I've been there earlier and I regret it terribly. There was a time from 2016 to 2018 when I took betting as an occupation. I literally was never off prediction sites and betting platforms. Always expecting sure games to drop with my account already funded to stake it upon sight. I was so distracted in my schooling and mostly heartbroken when I loose good money cos I bet big for my level. It was a disaster when I even had to use my feeding and textbooks  funds to stake with the  hope of cashing out big time.  Most of  which failed me. I  healed by myself and promise myself not to ever bet again, but that didn't  last for long cos I still  bet up till now, although very much moderately.

Probably. The question is what is considered an addiction. Some consider it an addiction when the negative consequences of this addiction have already manifested themselves and things are very bad. My assessment is more severe and when I notice that my brain is very absorbed in thinking about gambling, then I understand that the addiction is manifesting itself (even if I do not place bets). If I place bets and notice this, then I take a break from gambling until I begin to be almost indifferent to it again. Thanks to such caution, I never found myself in unpleasant situations that addicted people often find themselves in.
You have control over gambling that's why you can take a break from gambling and then gamble with a right decision but those who are addicted to gambling cannot take a break and gamble even if they want to. A gambling addict's brain may regulate gambling. Drug Addict When a person becomes crazy because he can't take drugs and his brain doesn't work like a gambler when he is addicted to gambling his brain doesn't work like a normal person because of what he decided or did at that time. He himself does not know. Just like you take breaks from gambling, I also decide to gamble only when my brain is fresh and when my brain is cold. When I feel that a bet or decision to gamble now may go against me, I take a break and decide to gamble again with a better mind set-up.

Probably people do not immediately become completely addicted, so to speak, “on the first try,” so even if a gambler has reached such a state that his brain does not work, then “winding back time” you can come to the moment when signs of addiction were already there and the brain was working, but the gambler did not take any measures to prevent the habit from developing into a pathological form, right?
Therefore, I think that even if a gambler is already in a state where he cannot control himself and take a break, this is still his fault and area of responsibility.
It is true that a gambler does not suddenly become addicted to gambling rather every gambler realizes that they are becoming addicted to gambling. Knowing that they are getting addicted to gambling, they cannot bring themselves out of it because then it works in their minds that they must make a profit by gambling. A gambler can recover from a gambling addiction through many challenging situations, but when a gambler realizes that he is addicted to gambling, the gambler cannot recover from that situation. A new gambler will not become addicted to gambling when he is very weak with money and when he does not have much courage to gamble again after losing money. However, those who are a little more stubborn and who are not very weak towards money usually get addicted to gambling.

I think we all have the same past where we have definitely been addicted to gambling, it's just that we realize it more quickly when the money runs out and lose a lot of money, unlike other addicts they will continue to try to catch up on previous losses and try to recover all the money they have lost. that's why you are very lucky to realize before it's too late and become a serious addict.

If you become a serious addict, of course it will be difficult to cure that's why it's important to realize it before it gets too deep. What you said is also true. It's also important to play more responsibly to avoid gambling addiction because whatever money you bet must be used really wisely, don't be eager to beat the dealer. let alone winning games at the casino. Enjoying gambling is even better.

What is the definition of gambling addicted? Where is that line where you gamble frequently, its your hobby, its the way you spend free time and when you are addicted? A person who make posts in gambling section, is he addicted? Or the one who hunts bonuses only, is he addicted? Or the person who spend money but wins frequently, is he addicted? For me, being addicted means thinking about where to get money to repay debt and when gambling is the first thing that came to persons mind to do it.

Once I kept in my mind sticky idea how easy it was to get extra money after my bet won and I should repeat that. But does it makes me addicted?

Well base on your own criteria of what gambling addiction is when whatever attractions you have in gambling has turned positive to you in winning, I also find it difficult to think one is addicted if you have been winning but then when you do something often and never allow yourself to rest, you are addicted to that thing. However, if I will be addicted to gambling yet winning regularly should it also be called an addition? That is your curiosity likewise mine  Grin

There were times when I gamble too much. Maybe much more than I did now due to boredom or was trying to escape a difficult time. I was this close to being dependent on gambling. I knew I was already spending so much time gambling but didn't know it was that bad until it was pointed out my best friend. He saved me. If you are going through a tough time, it may be difficult to talk to someone about it especially it you are trying to be a man. However you must talk to someone to save yourself from self-destructive habits.
Gambling too much, but you can still have good self-control, which will not harm you because you can still restrain yourself from gambling addiction. However, not many will be able to do it because most people will experience a gambling addiction that they are not aware of, so without self-control, a person will be at risk of becoming addicted to gambling. You are lucky to have friends who have saved you from excessive gambling, and those who help you from difficulties will see and help you to get out of these difficulties before you get into worse difficulties. And we have to be able to tell someone about the problems we are facing so that they can know and help immediately.

When you are addicted even your savings will also be used for it. Good thing that I have never done that, although I've got a few savings in the bank but I have never used any of them for gambling.

Most of the time, when I have cash in the past, I just use amount that's spare to me for any recreational actvity like gambling.

Never got to that point but I became active gambler before.
Even an active gambler doesn't have to be an addicted gambler all the time. Many gamblers gamble actively but have their budgets and limits and know when to start and when to stop you can't call someone like that a gambling addict because they are not excessive and reckless gamblers who have no sense of the money they are spending or the time that they are wasting on gambling without having any realization about other things in their lives.

An addicted gambler is someone who can't stop when they have exhausted their budget for the day, they can't stop when they are already ahead of the house, or they can't stop when they are constantly losing because the urge doesn't let them and they are not capable enough to control that urge.
Your point is the part that I fear in gambling, I've always have my mind on why people get adducted to gambling and this makes me be on alert about myself, I believe my way is never going to be like yours or others, when I gamble everyday I think I am giving gambling too much attention, which could lead to something that I don't want, this is why I prefer to gamble two times in a week, also my income is part of why I choose this strategy, if I can lose $20 two times in a week that makes it $40, that's something I can still handle, if I am to gamble every day I will definitely spend more money on gambling and I can't even afford to lose that much.

I think the more we practice same thing every day we get used to it, and now that money is involved with gambling I think it can boost your desire for gambling, which is something that I don't want, you need to take time off gambling most times and focus on your life, unless an exciting sport match is coming, give a boundary between you and gambling and pick days in a week that you will be gambling.

Remember that losers in gambling do it all the time, I have a feeling that's even why they are losing, a little time spent on gambling is valuable, the best if you ask me, but when you over stay or over do then you are turning into a foolish gambler.

Actually, the definition of gambling addiction can be interpreted in quite lot of ways, but most people define gambling addiction as just someone who gambles all the time and spends money just to play or bet.
If I personally define addiction as those who forget what is called priority, it is like husband and lover who forgets his family and is more concerned with gambling, in fact he does not support his family and uses money only for gambling.
And I also think that gambling addicts are gamblers who don't want to work and spend their days gambling betting money and hoping to get daily income from gambling, even though the capital is borrowed or selling valuables.
Maybe there are many more definitions of gambling addiction, but of course we have different understandings of gambling addiction.

Quote
Once I kept in my mind sticky idea how easy it was to get extra money after my bet won and I should repeat that. But does it makes me addicted?
I don't know if you are addicted after getting money from winning bets, but if you look out there, some gamblers are indeed addicted when they win and they try to bet again in the hope of winning again.
In the end they lose and experience feeling of curiosity about being able to get the same win and this feeling of curiosity also makes someone willing to continue spending money for every bet placed.
Winning and losing are two of the same factors that give an addictive effect or an addiction attitude.

Yeah, as long as you have control of your gambling habits, and make the right decision to quit even if you are winning, in short you have control, then that is good gambling on your part. But if you become reckless and betting huge amount like you want to chase a lost, then that is bad and you could be going on the side of being an addicted gambling.

An addicted gambler is someone who can't stop when they have exhausted their budget for the day, they can't stop when they are already ahead of the house, or they can't stop when they are constantly losing because the urge doesn't let them and they are not capable enough to control that urge.

And after that, they will have to look for ways to make money, be it borrowing from a person or going to the backs to make huge loan just to continue with their addiction. So that is very hard to stop once you got on that phase of a gambler.

The bet amount used in gambling is not a factor but rather the amount of time you spend gambling is what really matters. Many are acutely addicted to gambling but spend little time on gambling while on the other hand many are not addicted to gambling despite spending a lot of time throughout the day. I gamble at least two days a week but I also spend a lot of time on my studies. In this regard, I do not compare gambling to anything other than entertainment. But I am not worried about how addicted I will be in future but I always consider gambling as a part of my education as well as entertainment.

But it is addiction that will make someone spend his time to something. It is not only when you have the courage to put out money in gambling that makes someone an addict. Some people don't have the courage to gamble but they are glued to things concerning gambling. I know of someone who does this and his reason is that he doesn't like losing money on gambling but he would never leave out predicting and analysing. So it is not only about how much that have been used to gamble, yes but the time put in it.
