I looked at the coins that were in 2016, all that remains until today, they are even more expensive now than then, not so bad strategy hold
Well, because there are few coins created back then and they were recipient of the trust of the investors in the space.
During 2017, there are a lot of bad coins created so its expected that they will not survive a long bear market and we've proven it now.
it's been two years I guess that the altcoins market has not recovered yet, there are only few which recovers but not enough to bring this market into positive overall movement.

Not your Keys, Not your Bitcoins

Buying and hodling altcoins at these price levels could be a smart idea for some investors who are looking to invest on the long term, but they need to be careful on how they diversify their portfolio. Altcoins have got much bigger hits and there are some really low market cap ones. It is logical to think that they have higher growth potential than Bitcoin if money would pour into the market again. However they carry a higher risk than Bitcoin does so you might want to make a risk:reward equation and go from there Wink

Most people got already rekt by holding a coin more than they should have. IF they stayed in BTC, they would lose money again but they would not lose %90-95 of their funds. 2018 was a disaster for many people. We were expecting a better 2019 but we could not see it again. Who knows, maybe 2020 will be a lucky year for us that will bring 20k+ $. Now alts are dip and I would bag as much as I can.

True, 2018 was really a disaster after a steep bullrun. Bitcoin lost more than 50% of its value. How much more to altcoins. I have many alts that was dead already and more was deleted from exchanges, thats more than being rekt.  Grin

I think its better to check your alts from time to time and cut loss if you think its not getting any good. Buy back later if its okay, just always be alert on updates.

Depends on you. Which altcoin you are holding. If you are holding some shitcoin then surely it will rent you. But if you are holding some altcoin with great project which has a future then nothing to worry about. Just hold and chill.
As long as we get updates on different coins we hold and those team still putting some effort developing it then we should still hold and support it till crypto gets its momentum back. We must be updated on roadmap of each alts we hold. Never lose track.

Holding altcoin is not good way, many altcoin never become stable coin with have lower price after one or two years later, an altcoin price increase down more than 50% and could be lower.
A significant decline in a short time is indeed very detrimental, as we know that altcoin itself has a level of risk that is quite large if the exchange and also in terms of volume is not so large,so it is not recommended to choose with a low volume because of course this is risky

Betting against the odds is what most investors went after the market collapsed, many projects after reaching the ATH went down up to 90%. It's a big loss and for such person who doesn't have any patience or proper education about this market it will rekt everything. You need to make a stand and make an statement whatever decision making to take while working with long term holdings. It's about your money management and your capabilities to move forward.

Often times I read various posts of people/traders/investors preaching HODLing some altcoins for years and so on thus I took some to research on altcoins 3years and guess what? Most of the altcoins in 2016 are no more to found anymore. You can take a deep look as well via https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20160103/

My candid advise is to trade with the five senses intact and not with emotions. Don't get on some shitcoins with the intention to hold for years else you might get rekt.

Not all altcoins are bad. altcoin depends on what they choose. in cmc there are 3000+ altcoin there. and those not listed there are many more. so before someone chooses altcoin better understand first what they want to do with the coin and is it worth it to buy? see the main goal and who handles the coin. it is one that can be a coin of success or not

I like to focus on top coins in the coinmarketcap. Because the top coins have a huge potential to reach the market when Bitcoin get stable. There are a lot of coins in the coinmarketcap. But you need to choose good coins with own research.

You mean coins such as Ripple (XRP), which is currently ranked 3rd in coinmarketcap? Even the top 10 list includes a number of coins that looks overpriced. There are a number of good coins out there. But the issue that we face right now is that very few of these coins have practical usage, and even fewer of them have active development going on.

Just check the second ranked cryptocurrency (Ethereum). For the last one year or so, the pace of development has slowed down considerably and although Ether still maintains a 90% plus monopoly on the platforms, it is beset with issues related to high transaction fee and security related bugs. The other coins, such as Monero and Cardano are in a far worse condition.

It should be altcoinS soon.
I see that many more projects are going to the zero since they are not related with the real life projects and became only pump and dump coins.
Stay strong

Any project other than bitcoin and ethereum have you seen working in real life? Only the team keep saying Bla bla bla , we will do this and that, hardly their words come on real work.

Because of cheaters and scammers the whole crypto community has been regarded as red danger.

I will never ever invest in altcoins.

Altcoin is very dangerous actually. If you not choose a good one then there's a possible rekt that will happened on youre investment portfolio. I guess many projects die out due to lack of liquidity, and the problem with altcoin market is that investors and traders usually jump ship to ship in order to make profit. Now if the tokens left by traders, market lose value slowly cause none much trading it anymore.

Actually not all altcoin, but indeed we ourselves must be careful to be able to choose the right altcoin to invest. most altcoins are indeed quite high risk, even coins that are in a position of lowering are also large especially altcoin which is less strategic I'm sure prices dropped dramatically

The idea of holding altcoins is not to get any holder Rekt. The main point here is  that holders must be careful with the type of altcoins they choose to hold for long term. This is largely due to the fact that not all altcoins are capable of surviving or becoming successful. Hence, holders must research into these coins to know the capabilities of every coin in possession in order to know how long to hold and when to sell to make the profit.

Trading with emotion can be your one-way ticket to getting rekt. HODLing can sometimes be good but it's always a good idea to put a stop-loss and take-profit on investment.

if we are sloppy in choosing coins, the result will be that our capital will just dissipate, and our wait time will be wasted due to the wrong choice of coins that we will hold for so long that we think potential is not. So you have to be smart and full of ideas and knowledge in this matter.

It probably can get your rekt if you hold wrong altcoins, right? But if you hold altcoins like Ethereum, XRP, or Litecoin, then you will have a different result. So, what we can learn from this? Most of the altcoins that disappeared are not the top ten, so it is better to analyze more about the new altcoins if we really want to invest in it. Personally, I prefer the top coins. But, if needed, some coins with real use case may be also worthy to hold for some years.
