if you mean shitcoin is a new coin or token that recently joined cryptocurrency, it does have a smaller chance than the potential altcoin that has been around for a long time on the market, especially those that rank in coinmarketcap. come on, we have to be realistic. even strong altcoins have difficulty developing their prices in this bad market, especially with new altcoins? except if the new token has an influence and very large market interest.

i have said this almost all the time. it is useless holding any coin. the best option is to convert to btc or eth or any top altcoin with better trading volume and capitalization. i learnt my lesson from serve project. this project lasted for nine month and just disappeared from the scene.  i lost 90usd from that project. quite disappointed. i vow never to hold back any ne project. it is worthless.

Best to go about this altcoins issue is to stay with and invest in trusted and tested altcoins. They aren't much but they can give any holder rest of mind and assurance that the future will be profitable.

You are kind of right. Holding altcoins at this time of the market is not advisable because of the fall in prices.
But the truth is that many holders will not have choice than to hold their altcoins because the prices have fallen far below the price they bought in. They will hold it at least till the price returns to the buying price.
This is an unspecified investment and investing in altcoins at this time is very risky if the market continues the downtrend. In my opinion now is the time to invest in the top coins because this is the investment that can help you earn the most stable profit and if the market starts an uptrend, all good things can happen. Maybe people are afraid to invest in altcoins now but 2020 will be the time when altcoins have the strongest rise.
I guess if you want to invest altcoin right now, don't just spend the money you have. according to my analysis, market conditions are still uncertain. it would be nice if we make purchases in stages to minimize the risk if a further downward trend occurs

The sad thing is, right now we can also say holding BTC can get your Rekt as well. It's not like BTC is somehow immune to the marketplace.

Of course you could get rekt, also you could rekt while trading it's the choice by your temperament. And investing in 100 altcoins 90 will rekt in near 3 years, but those 10 will bring you a big profit

It all depends on what alts you hold. You cannot compare ETH, LTC with all the sh*t coins that appear on market like mushrooms after rain.

Currently is not a good time to buy. The market is bit unstable for new investors. It's better to buy either bitcoin or litecoin/Eth when the market is stable.

I watched a video few days ago

One of the guy actually stated that alts increase your risk exposure than diversifying it

The statement is mostly true but not entire true imo
Look at this
If you only hold onto bitcoin, you have only the risk of btc getting hacked or etc

But holding portion in alts will make sure your entire portfolio is not depending on one

Thus, it's up to your trading appetite at last

There are numerous altcoins on the market and as a result of that, one should understand that some will eventually be shit coins maybe due to poor team work, inexperienced team, repetition of idea and product of already existing project, etc. Investors are always advised to do their own research in order to know which coins can survive for long before investing.

I totally agree with this statement, holding Altcoins destroys too many people, including my family. We could have made a lot of money in early 2018 but we made a terrible decision not to sell and we lost all our holdings almost in dollar and sat value. I do not know in the future if we can ever get even a remote amount of it back but I believe our big chance is now well and truly over. Now whoever made big money has already made it and now only the big traders and capital can make anything now that is decent.
It depends on type of altcoin you are holding, you could've seen what's coming for altcoin on early 2018 as bitcoin is slowly decreasing its value. As I am bounty hunter I really quick sold my altcoins I got from my projects, I don't mind losing or gaining from it. Now this will be a lesson for you, Hold what's really have a potential. As I see the market now only huge capital trader are just earning.
yes that's what a lot of bounty hunters do. I also do it now, but the situation depends on the project, market and trends. in 2017 we learn how patiently saving altcoin can make us get a bigger profit. but in 2018 panic comes to a market where patience makes our money disappear. and this year, I think whoever takes the opportunity faster will get the bigger profit.

I'm also a bounty hunter, but I can’t say that I sold absolutely all the coins that I received as a reward for the bounty. I have bet on some projects and expect in the future that my presentiments and forecasts will not let me down.

i thinkbyou are right in that aspect but the same alts can also put smile on yr face when you hold it at bull time so putting stop lost in place will do alot to prevent you in lossing much which is a big show for you but this still has to do with yr risk management on your side .

You are right and believe you but to an extent; to me the issue isn't holding altcoins but instead it is the type of altcoins we are holding. Some of these new coins nowadays are not worth holding, some are just a product of profit; that is the team will cause the neccessary hype then cash out and the project will be on a downturn, now the issue isn't the downturn but the effort of the team to ensure the platform keeps standing. Most team lacks what it takes to maintain a project and the current nature of the market is exposing them one after the other. Furthermore, holding good altcoins is worth it such as ETH and its likes.

Holding coins for the price to recover to the price they bought it is depressing, instead of doing this why not sell off and buy bitcoin instead? btc can easily move up in price so you will make quick profit this way but altcoins have higher advantage in returns than bitcoin will ever be, those who witnessed the 2017 market know what im talking about.

Often times I read various posts of people/traders/investors preaching HODLing some altcoins for years and so on thus I took some to research on altcoins 3years and guess what? Most of the altcoins in 2016 are no more to found anymore. You can take a deep look as well via https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20160103/

My candid advise is to trade with the five senses intact and not with emotions. Don't get on some shitcoins with the intention to hold for years else you might get rekt.
They are bad altcoins, holding them will surely get you rekt, hold well established projects like
1. Litecoin
2. Dash
3. Neo
4. Eth
5. Bnb
Etc , we have many good altcoins that will no how do better in future,i see no reason why people choose new altcoins over these good old coins, old projects have proven to stay for long time than new projects will ever do, only very few new altcoins are good
