I'd really like to get access to the forum, but this system has it restricted.  This is mildly annoying.  I understand a need to block out spambots, but it seems like there have to be better ways, especially considering that people don't seem to really put into practice anything to distinguish them from spambots.  Most people have an initial post consisting of a variant of one of three or so messages.  This means that a spambot can easily emulate it.  Likewise, there is no reason to believe that a four-hour wait time would bother a spambot.  To a spambot time does not matter, there is no particular distinction between waiting four days and waiting 3 seconds to a spambot.  But to a person who wishes to fulfill a bounty or something this is a rather significant disadvantage.

Decent captchas work fairly well for a lot of things.  The type of message would be a much better filter than simply its presence.

But, the overall point is that there has to be a better way.

Indeed I've been lurking quite a bit on bitcointalk only to find out I couldn't post without confirming that indeed I'm not some ludicrous spambot that is attempting to ruin the internet by increasing the already low signal to noise ratio of most forums. I even created a login only to find out that I must post a little bit on this newbie forum first. Eventually I hope to be recognized as a legitimate human or cat capable of contributing to the lulz and memes of bitcoin history and perhaps maybe actually sharing thoughts that provoke intelligent debate and discussion. We will have to see.

Greetings,
This is a newbie, 'hello everyone' post; an attempt to write something substantial so that I'll be able to ask questions or reply on this forum in the future.

I'm a new miner, learning things I wish I had known before I started.  I began about a week ago mining litecoins and now I'm working on dogecoins.  I have 2 powercolor HD7870's with that run around 750khz combined.  I got'm up to over 800 last night then every crashed hard - I worried I'd trashed one of the cards.

I'm using cgminer 3.72 with win7.  My current batch file settings are:

I 19 -g 1 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 15360

I've installed the latest AMD dirvers and using Afterburner I've adjusted the cards' settings to:
Core Voltage: 1083
Core Clock: 882
Mem Clock: 1249

If I clock the memory any higher the system hangs.  The temps run just below 60C at these settings and get to closer to 65C when I start bumping things up.  I can increase the mem clock close to 1300ish but my hash rates go down.  I played around a with the shader settings, intensity and whatnot and thid appears to be my best bet hashing-wise without hardware errors appearing in cgminer.

I hope this suffices for a first post.  :-)

One thing that's not clear to me is whether or not I'm posting this in the correct forum.  Gulp, I hope so.

Any comments/suggestions are more than welcome.

Cheers!

I keep getting "you already posted this" or "need to wait 360 seconds" errors, despite my posts never showing up anywhere. System seems a bit glitchy...

To fix this, just copy your text and refresh the page. Then paste your text and wait 360 sec. Then just post. It is a little bit glitchy but it helps remove spam.

Now I know why I couldn't post in any of the free coin giveaway threads.  Live and learn... and wait for newbie timer to expire.

Thanks.

I wonder if requiring newbies to post in the newbie forum actually dilutes its value.
