The initial money that you bring at the table to play into crypto really does not matter if you time your calls correctly. But be ready to loose all of your capital if you are not an expert in TA. My suggestion to you would be that you buy and hold any alt that you are interested (or look in waves, 0x or etc) and try doing paper trading before putting in real money.

As you operate with a small amount, it is best to invest 50% in bitcoin. He is now undergoing a correction. For the remaining 100 buy 2 coins. For example, waves. omg

It's a good amount to start but don't just jump into trading without having proper knowledge of it

Do you like gamble? If yes, choose an ICO an invest there. Do not hope or check about that ICO everyday. Wait 6-12 months, then comeback and check that ICO. If they make their project success, you are rich.

I would say take a look at upcoming ICOs to invest in. One that had really caught my eye recently is Propthereum.io. They are an asset backed cryptocurrency on the blockchain and are expecting a 1566% coin appreciation in a short period of time. All proceeds raised from their ICO will be used to purchase A-grade property worldwide generating a rental income and underlying value for the PTC token holder. The great thing about this concept is that the coin will always increase in value!

My advice is choose the best coin based on their market performance of course there are cheaper coins but make some research if its market cap increase or grows, Ethereum and litecoin are both good also some ICO are performing well you just need patience and perseverance, you are a student and it is good the you know how to handle money properly. Good luck anyway I hope you become a successful trader and a student as well.

I want to start out trading altcoins but don't know where to start.  I don't have much money because I am a student.

Should I put my money in low cost coins such as NEM or should I put it in higher cost coins such as litecoin?
Should I spend $10 on each coin? $20?
Should I try a few ICOs?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you

My advise, buy much of low value coin don't put all your fund on high value coins.

Start trading with 100$ and some coins worth holding for 100$ (Buy coins like NEM,IOTA,Siacoin,XVG.) Have patience while trading and dont rush all you money at once. Start with a few small trades. You will have an idea how things works.

The $ 200 investment is very low. It can be eaten by large dumps. But if you keep and buy potential coins you can increase your investment. Just be careful to be successful In trading. Reading the news and learning Altcoins will also help you. You have to learn a lot in trading In this new trading you start. Especially if you are weak looking at having lost your value of $ 200.

I would split your $200 by a pre-sale and some trading.
I have four coins: ethereum, Kick, strats and AppCoins.
For the pre-sale I recommend AppCoins (https://appcoins.io), benefiting from pre-sale. With the 200 million users, not difficult to appreciate 10 times in 6 to 12 months.
For buying in exchanges I recommend you OMG. I'll buy some of it for me.

Betterto research first the crypto you want to trade , buy cryptos that are low in price which you think will pump in the future and start trading it in exchange when it the price pump. Consider that you must always take a look of the rate .

I think you should do all of them. Because it is really good for you to get experience.
You know it is not easy to get profit now. But when you have your knowledge you will get more and more money in near future. Good luck

Also be careful of sites that say that they will invest for you like: Chain Group, BitConnect etc.
Some might be scams / ponzi schemes.

My suggestion is sent all your fund to exchanger and start to trade. if you invest in ICO you have to wait for at least 1 or 2 month to withdraw your token. Your fund will be frozen. If you are in exchanger you can make profit daily if you are great traders. daily profit is important to grow your money. In ICO you can't make daily profit, Be a trader now.

if you are going the ICO route I would look into more promising coins such as vector. all the big crypto youtubers are saying to invest in this one because of its POS function that will make the price go up. Anything else I would be wary of if it doesn't have the support like vector does

I started trading with 50 dollars. It is better to learn a small amount. The huge advantage of crypto-instruments before other exchanges is the high level of democratization of trade. You can start trading with very small amounts.
