Addictions are almost impossible to control, that's what makes it so difficult. And certainly also because when gambling you also develop a feeling of euphoria when you have won a lot of money. Then you live in your own dream world and you are in a daze. How could you unlearn it? The answer is simple, but the implementation and process are very difficult. Only way is to stop. And reducing is not an option either, then you will remain triggered. There are also clinics, but there are many stories of people who then relapse into gambling addiction. And then you start from scratch again.

Gambling is a very tricky act that get the most of anyone if not properly kept in check. Speaking from experience here, addiction in gambling can cause serious damage to ones life but i do feel there is just one strategy into solving this, which i believe is just self discipline because if you are a really discipline human, you have all your gambling activities planned out and this will help you keep your habits in check ,making you not to go all obsessed with your gambling.
One thing that cause this obssession again is the feeling of wanting to recover your losses which only transpire to more losses.

I have tried to set a budget limit sometimes work very well, but at some moment I lost control. If I lose control I'll try to fight with diverting it to another activities, it really helps to control my gambling activity. That's my only strategy which can share, maybe if one day someone experiences something similar to me they can try diverting gambling to other activities.

I've never had a problem with this so my advice isn't likely to be of much help. When I notice that I spend a lot of time/effort on something (not just gambling), then I make an assessment: how reasonable it is. If this does not benefit me, but rather takes time, effort, emotions, money, then I immediately stop doing it. By the way, in this way I quit playing online chess because they worried me too much  Grin

Not many have their self-assessment when it comes to gambling.
In my case, to know that I am still in control with my gambling, I always set a max limit that I can use for gambling.
I may go beyond a lil bit from that amount, but if I feel I can't recover my losses, I accept my fate for that session.
So for me, it is acceptance that you lost on a certain period, don't chase anymore if you go beyond your limit,
because you will incur more losses, and it is hard to recover. I just go back when I have my extra funds to play again.

I just limit my gambling exposure so I won’t have problems from seeing myself in consistent losses. Through that, I can spend more quality time with my family and be able to make use of my extra money in some useful things and not spending them all in gambling. And I really make sure to spend only small amount of money that I will no longer use and once I lose them all, then it’s time for me to leave the house with no regrets.

Even aside revenge, gambling too much and frequently is another issue, it is one of the ways many gamblers are losing, we should gamble in a quality way, not in a quantity way.
Actually, you are correct; I did not mention that gambling frequently can lead to gambling addiction, the funniest part is that most addicted gamblers do not always believe they are addicted to gambling, when you tell them about their addiction, they always end up saying they know what they are doing and they are gambling just for fun, but they are addicted to gambling. only a few addicted gamblers will agree that they are addicted and will seek help.

One way to put our gambling habit under control is when we try not to make gambling our only source of income, but an alternative by which we get a penny sometimes, as that will redirect our attention, hence preventing one from being addicted to the point of going out of hand. Because to be a responsible gambler is a matter of choice and the environment one happens to find himself.

However, some of the ways by which to keep my gambling habit under control, they are;

1. To always keep a specific amount for gambling, by which ones it finish, I automatically stop gambling for that day, or week or month.

2. To have a reason by which you gamble, that is, is it for the fun or for money

No such thing as a strategy but rather just force ourself to become responsible and disciplined at all times. There's no other choice as the one we are handling here in order to control our gambling activity is none other than ourselves.

The emotions and excitement we feel during winning keeps us more motivated to continue gambling since nothing beats the happiness when we are winning especially big. The same goes for losing especially in a losing streak, our adrenaline keeps pumping to play more to chase those losses.

The only time a gambler stops is when there's nothing really left in their balance or out of options to fund their account.

Well said mate. There’s no wrong with gambling as long as we play it more responsibly and with discipline. Because the only reason it becomes uncontrolled to us is that we tend to play because of greed and excitement especially if we are in the verge of winning. Most likely, we will chase more of our luck to attract more profits, and that behavior alone is never good on controlling our gambling habit. The reason why we should never gamble if we are in need of huge amount of money because for sure, we will always take every chances to win, and yet still end up losing them everything.

Well, I set aside a certain amount of money for gambling.

If for some reason I lose my bankroll I stop gambling. I rested for a few days to refresh my mind and started playing in an entirely different way with a different strategy.

Sometimes if I win a big bet, I transfer the winnings from my Hot Wallet to the Vault.
In this way, I prevent myself from overgambling.

Another thing is to avoid gambling when I am under pressure, this way I can avoid any big losses.

Due to the fact that I am not an addicted gambler, I am able to control my gambling behavior quite easily.

Becoming an addictive gamblers are very easy mostly if we don't have what we are doing. Gambling is very interesting that we why we do see people getting addicted to it because of how interesting it is. I do see gambling like an entertainment that is a good reason why I always make sure I position myself and gamble at a lesser rate.

I know how disturbing it is sometimes when I am pushed to make bets but I know that is a urge of addiction. If we are addicted to gambling, we should be very careful not to mingle with people or gamblers that will make us have increased urge for gambling.

I do have a monthly budget which I set aside for gambling only. If this budget is been exhausted, I don't have a choice than to stop gambling till the next month. This strategy has always put me in check of my gambling activities.

This is a nice recommendation, set a budget for the month for sure is one of the best ways to avoid losing money that you need and only lose money that you can afford to lose. I really like this recommendation.

What I do to control the beast is that I only take a small piece of each payment I get and use that for gambling, I take only between 5% and 10%, and if I lose that I don't feel bad at all. This method works fine for me.

I take gambling as fun,and what I observed is that,if you get carried away with the fun when gambling, you are likely to gamble more than your budget, which might lead to your regret, because you couldn't stop when you ought to.

I think it's important to avoid any casino at all...online or structural.
What do you mean by this? To avoid casino? This thread is not about avoidance, it is about how to overcome emotion and addiction.

To begin with, you do not have to consider gambling as a source of income, if you gamble to make money, you will find it difficult to stop when you lose because you will believe that you will win one day, always gamble for fun or relaxation, if you start thinking about making money from gambling, you may become addicted. Also, make sure you don't revenge after losing in gambling, some people will want to win back all of their losses, which makes no sense. stick to your budget and never exceed it when gambling.
I strongly against this in gambling, seeing gambling as an income will never have a good ending, it will only lead to addiction and frustration.

Even aside revenge, gambling too much and frequently is another issue, it is one of the ways many gamblers are losing, we should gamble in a quality way, not in a quantity way.

Just to quote that monkey from Bojack Horseman. “Every day it gets a little easier… But you gotta do it every day — that's the hard part. But it does get easier.” If you put yourself into discipline mode and follow through with it as much as possible, you're already halfway there.

As for the matter of what method I used to ensure I don't get addicted from gambling, I call this the "three-method", I saw someone from this forum talk about this too, and I employed it to my gambling discipline. So far, it has worked so well for me that it allowed me to not be addicted to gambling even after years have passed. In any case, the three method is just easy. You basically just stop gambling for the day or for a set amount of time, when you hit three wins or three losses. That way, you can bag whatever wins you accumulated during that run, or if you're not that lucky, you could ensure your losses are mitigated.

In reality, education and financial stability should be enough to keep people away from gambling, because it will lose you money over the long term - there's simply no way around it. While many people get sucked in by the odd hundred dollar wins that a casino gives you near the start, they then forget after many thousands of goes, all the times they lost. It gets to a point where they are simply a monkey pressing a type writer and not comprehending or reacting to the outcome, once you reach that point the addiction becomes much harder to pull away from. You need to be aware of your actions, but these places often end up targeting the least educated, poorest and most vulnerable because they simply have not been taught to gauge the odds.

So far I have been able to control my gambling habit majorly in the following ways.  First self-discipline. Second, I stay away from conversations with gambling addicts on gambling. Self-discipline
cannot be over emphasized. People are self-disciplined when gambling are the masters of themselves. They know when to call it quits and walk away. Secondly, gambling addicts would spend their whole day talking about gambling and one who is weak will end up becoming like them.

Thanks that we've also had alot of books published lately about this and trending guards too are also very effective.
Reading and keeping the mind positive could do alot of good dude... don't ever conceive the thoughts of trying anything for an instance or to see if it cuts. Make sure to plan out daily, monthly and yearly budgets for yourself.
