Gambling can be fun until it turns into a strong habit, I have nothing against gambling and gamblers I am a gambler myself and it has never affected me negatively. And there are times gambling has provided finances for me that was very helpful.

The issue is getting addicted to it, you don't only get addicted to drugs, smoking you get addicted to anything you don't have discipline to control, if you are a well discpline person and no when to walk away then you have no problem.

As for the 'self-help' method - helping your friend by taking him to different places - it's a heartwarming thought, truly. But unfortunately, you can't just "vacation" away from addiction. The person will need professional help, either from a psychiatrist or a support group. No one is an island; we all need help at times

Gambling addiction is a serious psychological condition and requires professional intervention and support. You have correctly pointed out that a break from gambling is not enough. Overcoming this addiction requires professional help. It’s important to understand that getting over gambling is a long process, and you don’t have to do it alone.
Yes, it requires therapy and rehab. Gambling addiction is like being addicted to alcohol it is slightly similar but it is very hard to stop and you really need professional help for it , it cannot be done by yourself only. But if you have self control , why stopping someone to gamble ? as long as he knows his limit, has disciplined and proper money management I think there's nothing wrong with it.

Gambling brings so much joy especially when you're on the winning side, when things are all in your favor it just seems like you should never stop. But when it gets bad, you look for a way to pour out your anger, either on someone or on something.
When someone is addicted to gambling I feel it's worst than one who's addicted to drugs.

So much has been said about betting companies regarding how they should be responsible in helping those who are addicted to gambling, although is really hard to do so on there own path because gamblers can't be monitored.
I don't know if booking an appointment with a therapist would help or is something you as a gambler who wants out should do on your own.

The question is if you're a gambler or have someone who is, what's the best way to help out. And what's your story on escaping that addiction (gambling)...

How do you fight this battle?
On how to help other people who are addicts to gambling is hard because some of them might not know that they are addicted to it and will not accept whatever you tell them or they might stay far from you. One needs self-control in life especially in gambling so that you don't get carried away by your emotion of chasing your loss. It is better that you set aside a gamble budget when you get paid so that you can only use that to gamble. Also set time limit for your gambling activities, this will enable you to know when to stop gambling. Then finally,if you find out that you gambling has eaten you to you bone,it is better that you go for a break till you can control yourself when gambling.

For a gambler who has experienced winning several times, it will be difficult to get rid of it because of the feelings he felt about gambling in a casino. Casinos have the most magic for players to make you feel and experience winning at a casino.
And when you experience winning, a player may think that it can be a source of income in their life and an answer to their daily expenses, something that they will not notice will be a way to lead them to addiction to it. Which of course is not a good result when that happens.
They should be able to remember that victory cannot always be obtained, and they must be able to stop their gambling activities or reduce them before defeat comes and takes all their money. But most people will not understand and instead continue to play gambling, so they find it difficult to stop. Winning at gambling can tempt people to continue playing gambling because, according to them, they can get the next win even though it won't be as easy as they imagined. Some even think of making gambling a source of income because they have won several times. But they should consider it long before deciding because gambling is not designed as a source of income but as entertainment.

I think gambling is something where people hide their pleasure especially when winning bets. And in such a situation, more and more addicted to gambling, it seems that gambling is the most valuable asset in his life. Sometimes, if the bet is lost, the person is attracted to more bets rather than taking a break from gambling. Just as a drug addict becomes addicted to relieve his drug addiction, a gambler becomes more addicted than if he did not gamble. But if a gambler wants to get out of this addiction then he must stop gambling after losing the bet. I lost a few days of betting and subsequently took a break from gambling so that I did not get addicted to gambling. In that case, if a gambler loses his bet, he should certainly refrain from it, but his gambling addiction will decrease.

Of course, if I have a gambling friend who is constantly addicted to gambling, I will definitely give him special knowledge to save him from it. I will help him by giving him various tips to get him back from gambling so that he can come back from gambling. If a person must be freed from various addictions, a few people will take him to different places and a different feeling will work in his core. and in this way it will be possible to slowly get a gambling friend out of gambling addiction.
Buckle up and put your learning hat on, as we are about to dissect this through a "constructive-criticism-academic" lens, maintaining a groundbreaking level of seriousness while chilling in the hammock of relaxation. First off, the notion that one can control addiction through intermittent abstention ("stop after losing") is, well, academically flawed. It's akin to telling someone, "Just stop coughing, and you won't have a cold anymore." There's a fundamental misunderstanding of the physiological and psychological underpinnings of addiction at play here. You see, addiction isn't a matter of will; it's an irresistible compulsion, driven by changes in the brain's reward system. Cutting it off abruptly can lead to withdrawal symptoms, which can be just as devastating

As for the 'self-help' method - helping your friend by taking him to different places - it's a heartwarming thought, truly. But unfortunately, you can't just "vacation" away from addiction. One of the ways we have to do things to overcome others is to have another type of entertainment in mind , how ? doing sports, doing activities to get organized and stop thinking about what is causing damage, when the damage is very strong , it is very obvious that you need help, therapies, rehabilitation, because sometimes addictions can become so strong as to Overcome certain emotions of People and have a direct influence on your life, and that is what should be avoided. As adults, you always have to be in Control of Everything and not let yourself be Defeated by Adversity.

I've considered numerous times how to stop gambling; it's a dangerous path that no one wants to take. Stopping gambling is not something you do immediately or in a single day. This generally takes a long time before one can totally distinguish themselves from addicts. I do take the time to check the recreational activities that would divert my attention away from gambling; it takes time, but no pain, no gain. It's heartbreaking to see our contemporaries become gambling addicts. I understand their desire for financial freedom, but gambling is not the way to achieve it. It will only lead us into huge debts, forcing us to sell our possessions and valuables in order to settle everything.

This path is not that highly needed if you yourself know the real deal and can distinguish yourself and those of addicts, furthermore, if you're just inclined to gamble just for the sake of blowing up some steam then stopping is not really needed because you I'm certain that you already know your boundaries.

Let's just get this idea for once that either winning or not winning gambling is not what is that easy to stop doing, most times we will discover many people with long time experience with gambling get used to this on a regular daily basis and leaving without gambling will be a very difficult and unfinished task for them to achieve.

And when you experience winning, a player may think that it can be a source of income in their life and an answer to their daily expenses, something that they will not notice will be a way to lead them to addiction to it. Which of course is not a good result when that happens.

Or should we say because some gamblers have experienced several encounters winning steadily and think about making it a source to livelihood, while in some cases they were rather left with no other alternative than to embrace gambling at that moment in time to finds a means of living.

But look at it on the brighter side gambling addiction can lead to something positive, don't you think?

It barely leads to something positive, I guess you are probably looking at the luck involved in gambling like staying on and playing. Addiction overall ends up negative and destroying someone because it will keep frustrating you when you have not succeeded in your drive or goal . It is more dangerous when you are frustrated into depression because with that nothing matters to you anymore and it degenerates your physical and mental health.

Gamblers who thought they found a winning strategy will think that way like they can live every day making money through gambling. It can be a problem since it will eventually become an addiction. It doesn't happen all the time but I have seen it firsthand transformed someone who will get out of the house around 10 PM in order to visit a nearby casino.

Addiction I think is also an effect of external problems. My aunt is lonely, her husband is a sailor, and she has money to spend but she keeps thinking her husband is sleeping with someone on the ship. One way to stop addiction is simply to really divert the attention of the addict to something productive to occupy his mind and keep them busy.

Stopping gambling is really a battle you fight against yourself, and can you think it would be very easy to stop? Since you're in control of yourself then you need more than a 3rd party to win this fight. Need someone to monitor your movement if possible every activities you engage yourself in day in day out. It can be embarrassing but it had to be done with so much determination if not that goal {stopping gambling} can't be achieved.
Well, stopping gambling addiction only takes the help of God to make someone to stick to his or her word to stop it. But look at it on the brighter side gambling addiction can lead to something positive, don't you think?
Addiction at any time will not lead us to something positive, gambling addiction will never be good, actually to stop is rather difficult but to reduce gambling I think it can be done, because not all gamblers are also a place for us to make money but also look for fun at the table gambling, that is why gamblers who seek only pleasure can never become heavy addicts.

Look for other positive activities, for example other hobbies such as sports or looking for busyness by working and trading, maybe it will help reduce a little addiction from gambling, because just not having hobbies and other activities will make us continue to play gambling all the time so that's what makes it difficult for us to stop being gambling addict.

Rehab is the best ever solution to get rid of any kind of addiction which maybe hard to practice but it's the most effective so we need to make them realise they are addictive towards gambling so it's time to spend time on other things as well. But for someone else we can't do much, all we can do is show the path and their will power only can take them to the place where they want to be.

Well, if you feel yourself that you are doing something more than how much you're supposed to do then its time to focus on other.

The only way out and I think this is more related to casino games like slot machines which are the highest gambling addiction providers out there as you can win instantly or lose instantly and during such time your brain is like paralyzed while the reel spins,I doubt there are a lot of people who are addicted while playing sport betting and that because you have to wait a considerable amount of time before you see the results of such bets.

As my personal experience in 2019-2020 I was massively addicted to slot machines online as the providers making online games for me are much better than the ones who do provide offline slot machines and so I was hooked up to levels never seen before that made me even spend money I should have not.One of such days I lost a lot and it was after that day that I promised myself to not ever do it again,it took several months and a couple of years for me to discipline myself into playing only predetermined budget and that is the only way to come out,you have to have a super strong will in order to get out of addiction.
That is probably the story of every gambler who loves slots, they don't even realize that they have become heavily addicted to it until they lose a significant amount of money at once, and even after that, they still feel like they should play more because they just get involved too much in the game and they will only stop if they have no money left at hand, and even after that, they will try to get some money from somewhere to gamble.

And this also happens in sports betting, though it is not something that is played with small gaps or continuously, people tend to become addicted to betting on sports events because once they get a win, they feel like they will keep winning, and that makes them keep betting.

At least one of us has experienced something like you guys said @jostoress, or maybe just the two of us. basically, what you said is a common problem for gamblers, especially in this digital era of slot games. If in the old days of land casinos, other games like roulette drained more of our money, it could also be Bacarrat or blackjack. but certainly, what you are saying is something active gamblers may have experienced.
I mean, gamblers who conduct gambling sessions can be every day or at any time. there is a phase where the gambler will experience depression, even cursing the day and what he is doing. after that, they will start gambling again. there are also, those who learn so that this hobby does not disturb themselves and even involves the people closest to them. everyone will have a different response and attitude, but most of the cases are the same.

@swogerino. maybe yes, for now because the types of gambling games are more varied with their features. however, before casino slots were as popular as they are today, sports betting could become addictive. I have some friends in the past, who are addicted to sports betting. in fact, they did not hesitate to pawn their possessions just to make a bet. the point is, for those of us who already know gambling very well. there is no other word, other than just to think of it as nothing more than a winning hobby. conditionally, with money ready to lose. if we don't have a concept like this, I'm pretty sure it will be difficult to get out of a habit that ultimately harms us ourselves.

When someone is addicted to gambling I feel it's worst than one who's addicted to drugs.
How can you say that, everything about addiction is just as bad and can threaten a person's life, because usually addiction can lead a person to depression which can lead to suicidal ideation, so no addiction is better or worse, all are bad, because People who are addicted often do things beyond their true awareness.

The question is if you're a gambler or have someone who is, what's the best way to help out. And what's your story on escaping that addiction (gambling)...
How do you fight this battle?

I don't know how to help someone who is addicted to gambling other than advising that person to go to a therapist so they can get out of their addiction, because only therapists understand how to help people like that because they have knowledge that can be applied to help, and actually it would be better for them take him directly to a therapist instead of us trying to give advice and so on because it might not work, although it is not certain that the therapy he is following will also produce results because actually if someone wants to recover from addiction it has to come from within himself not just encouragement from those closest to him.
