Gambling brings so much joy especially when you're on the winning side, when things are all in your favor it just seems like you should never stop. But when it gets bad, you look for a way to pour out your anger, either on someone or on something.
In general, happiness comes from nice things, and when you're unhappy, you can simply target your rage at something. When you win a bet, you get this euphoria that makes you believe that you are smart when it comes to gambling. You feel like you are on top of the world and forget that gambling is a two-sided game with a 50/50 probability of success. You should be able to stop playing when you've lost a number of games in a row and curb your greed.
When someone is addicted to gambling I feel it's worst than one who's addicted to drugs.
All addictions are terrible, whether they involve gambling, drugs, smoking, or anything else. People with addiction often feel awful about what they do after they have done it, and after a while they still want to do it again because it is a part of who they are; they know it is bad and they want to stop forever, but it is very tough.
Being addicted on either of the two is unhealthy since it causes you to emotionally harm yourself and has a negative impact on your health because you won't have time for other activities. When you have a gambling addiction, you won't have any other use for your money besides gambling. You'll constantly want to get back your lost money at any cost, which will result in you losing more money. However, in my opinion, gambling addiction is much better than drug addiction because drug addiction shortens a person's life span by causing organ damage. It is harmful and causes premature death.
So much has been said about betting companies regarding how they should be responsible in helping those who are addicted to gambling, although is really hard to do so on there own path because gamblers can't be monitored.
I don't know if booking an appointment with a therapist would help or is something you as a gambler who wants out should do on your own.
The question is if you're a gambler or have someone who is, what's the best way to help out. And what's your story on escaping that addiction (gambling)...
How do you fight this battle?
I occasionally gamble and am happy that I am not an addict because I have witnessed the bad effects that gambling addiction has had on a number of other individuals. Fortunately, I don't know anyone close to me who is hooked to it, but I believe that, like the OP suggested, prayer and counseling could be helpful.
