I guess around 15-20% are lost. But when we hit the Quantum computing singularity, all these lost coins will be recovered (or maybe)

This is only possible if the Quantum Computers comes in the market, they can decrypt/bruteforce mostly everything.

Then everything will be lost forever.

Someone have lost 40 BTC to this address: https://blockchain.info/address/1111111111111111111114oLvT2 2 days ago... That address already had 3 BTC balance there before (but some are from 2010/2011 when BTC price was low, and people burn them maybe for fun), but someone have burned ~9.5k$ worth now... (The story of that address is here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/interesting-bitcoin-address-1111111111111111111114olvt2-237143)

Will check that later as blockchain seems down for me.

There id no such term as 'lost forever' for bitcoin. Because private key is shared by many people. Someone may have the pk of satoshi wallet by 2050.

Everytime someone gets poorer by losing coins, we all get richer because we now own a larger percentage of the total amount of bitcoins that will ever be created.

There is no way of knowing how many coins are lost so i dont think it will affect the price. Total market cap of bitcoin will always be based of the total number mined and that is the number the market look at. Lost coins are just lost and nothing else...

I have lost about 0.01BTC when i used bitcoin core. I re-installed my operating system because it had some problems. I forgot to copy my backup key to my phone. Not only bitcoin, i also lost about 800 doge ( small ammount but they're my first dogecoin ) when i re-flashed my android and i forgot my google authenticator.

I just accidentally sent 2.4BTC to a wallet that I have forgotten the password for. Not calling them lost yet, but I'm racking my brain for hours and no luck.

Assuming this is a desktop wallet and you have a vague idea of what the password might be, you should really give this a try https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover

Good luck!

Yeah I've also lost a couple of BTC due to mistakes like that.
Now I'm using a password manager (on a usb stick)

Do you have a backup?
USB flash drives don't tend to last that long, or you might lose it.

I dont like USB flash drives too, it can be easily corrupted.
Before few years i had so much information in USB when i formatted my pc and when i wanted to restore(put them back) the usb was corrupted.
So i prefer more having multi backups, like in cloud(google drive, dropbox), USB, CD/DVD, etc...

I am really curious to know how many coins this buddy lost: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/issue-with-bitaddressorg-20btc-reward-for-assistance-1173700
It has to be over 100 if he is offering a 20 BTC reward for anyone who can help him recover it.

EDIT: There was around 138 coins in the lost wallet/address.

That's very pity, it was accidentally and i think no chance to get them back.

i just hope the percentage of bitcoin lost is high. Makes mine worth way more.
the amount of accessible bitcoins will continue to decrease as bitcoins are "lost".  It doesn't matter for the usability of bitcoin in a technical sense because they are infinitely divisible.  Lost bitcoins probably help push the price up if anything.

dunno the bad side, would be that everyone will deal with micro number all the time, if too many coins are lost

i know that many want their precious coins to be rounded, using mbtc and micro sometimes is confusing

I have just learned new things today/yesterday about some bitcoin addresses
Here are some btc addresses that receive bitcoins but these can't be spent
For more to learn check this thread the posts from BurtW https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/what-kind-of-address-is-this-1168745
