We know only that ,there are 16 mil btc already mined. We also know that there is approximately the same amount of wallets. My gues is that a bitcoiner in general has around 1 btc and 1 wallet, so I voted for 16 million. However, I understand now that 1 btc per user is sort of not that big and the average amount is probably higher. But what to do with wallet's then? If there are less people using btc then they have more money and more then 1 wallet in general?
I do not think that now matter how many people are using Bitcoin worldwide. It is important, what benefit it brings all these people, and for what purpose they use it.
Advantages and disadvantages of bitcoin like as if it serves people needs is easy to find. But is very difficult and matters how many people around the world use it. Say that you go somewhere abroad with few fiat money in your pocket but with btcs in your smartphone wallet. So how will you satisfy your needs if there aren't people for services or goods to pay with bitcoins?
I do not think that now matter how many people are using Bitcoin worldwide. It is important, what benefit it brings all these people, and for what purpose they use it.
We can just guess, at the moment there is no any relevant method to establish true number. Probably we will never know exact figures. My estimation is around 2 millions and I don't have the clue is it near correct number or not. New users are comming all the time but unfortunately some are leaving bitcoin too.
Yes that is a fact that we cannot estimate the actual number of bitcoin but we can evaluated the increase in number from our surrounding, as in my area people are joining bitcoin rapidly and one shopkeeper has also started bitcoin service as he is now accepting bitcoin for shopping in his shop, so we can guess that the number of bitcoin users is really increasing rapidly in every part of this world. 5M is way lot of users compared to what I'm thinking. I'm just thinking of around 2M. Because theres a lot of users that have multiple accounts and they are using it everyday. Thinking that its around 5M and the bitcoins price are now going up. I think the demand of bitcoins will go up too and the users will be doubled or tripled, as well as the account of a user will multiply. Today, only 40% of world population according to http://www.internetlivestats.com/internet-users/ are online. Moreover, we must take under consideration that economic events in countries with large population, like as India’s withdrawal Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes, has a positive influence in bitcoin usage.
So base on the theory, it says on the last paragraph "According to publicly available data, there are now over 10 million bitcoin wallets."
But it doesn't mean that there are 10 million individual who are already using bitcoins. Since it is just a free service to make a new one, many people have different wallet addresses for different purposes. Let's assume that per user has 5-10 wallets, so maybe we are already 1 million and counting for each day.
well to be honest, bitcoin is about 7 years old and since then it went through a lot of siht, from black market to banning and now it's widely accepted as a valid payment option outside the deepweb. I think that the current number of users and the bitcoin price is rather good, of course it can be better, but those better times will come with time.

I have voted for 2M to 5M, Its just a guess tho cause it is impossible to determine the actual number of bitcoin users cause every one user is using multiple wallet and everyday there are a thousands of transactions made in the blockchain . It will be really hard to determine in this conditions . However it is certain that bitcoin is getting more popular each day giving birth to new bitcoin users .
My guess is that it will be somewhere around 500,000 to 1 million. Right now, around 15 million coins are in circulation, and 90% of them are owned by a few thousand super-rich users. The remaining 1.5 million are owned by users who have anywhere from BTC0.001 to hundreds of BTC. And we need to exclude any user holding less than BTC0.1, as the net worth is insignificant.

how confident your allegations, I'm sure you just guess it? I do not think it will be that much. for a great country I'm sure users will not exceed 300k users, and probably a whole will only reach 5-10 million users only

but year to year user bitcoin increase ..
We have got just a few million users, which is quite less than 5million. Only the early adopters were the only one who have benefited much from bitcoin. Another important thing is that bitcoin adoption is increasing rapidly. On account of this it is expected to reach a minimum of 10-15 million by 2020.
I hope this is unpredictable because day to day more people are using bitcoin and there many many transaction being on daily basis, many people have more than 5 to 10 different bitcoin address already, but there is not exact guessing about how many, but according to my knowledge there 5 to 10 millions people are using around the globe.
It's impossible to know about it, because if you try to look for all the users that are using bitcoin, you will see that it's impossible since the amount of transactions and generated addresses is too big and obfuscated to try to have any realistic number of people using it, we can only guess by the gross amount of transactions and it only keeps going up so its reasonable to think that more and more people keep joining bitcoin constantly.
I think it is around 2 million people, I'm not sure the number of users on Bitcointalk.org, the figure can be used to forecast the actual figure.

There is adoption going on but it's not that much rising like a few might think.
We are still a very nerdy and technical focussed community which is far away from making a step to bigger number of users.
The reasons are mostly ease of use and lack and confidence in Bitcoin due to constant negative reports by the msm.
The blocksize dsipute and other inner conflicts may play a role as well.
However I hope to see a number of 10-30 million users until 2020.This might be a conservative number, but I try to stay realisitc and not expect too much.

The number will increase for sure because we start to hear everywhere the word bitcoin and people are curious about the technology. I think the number of users worldwide should be around 5 millions and the number will increase over time.
My estimation for 2020 should be around 30 millions or more
