if you think you’ve made quite the profit for holding some altcoin then making profit out of it is really nothing wrong, so many of us actually think that we could see the final phase of the rally but that’s not true at all.
i’ve seen many being bullish and forgot that a rally will definitely have an end, if the altcoin you hold happens reaching its newer ATH then making profit out of it is simply a wise decision, even if in the future the value gonna be rising again, at least you’ve made
the profit out of it and not losing, because honestly, selling at the rightest time is simply a myth in the world of investment.

Assuming I've made up my mind to hold on to a token for many years but after a year this token hit a new ATH what should I do as a newbie? Sell or not sell?
After a year you should not called yourself as a newbie anymore, and you should already know what to do by that time. Hitting an ATH is a sign of taking profit because the next trend for that is down trend so its better to sell right away before its too late. Again, my advice is to actively monitor the market and don’t just hold passively because many are missing the opportunity to sell for doing this.
I wouldn't be sure about that, your involvement matters when we are talking about the level of dedication and experience. Someone who "knows about" bitcoin for the past 5 years but haven't done much, or didn't follow up too much could still be a newbie, would be hard but still possible and could be ignorant about most developments and learn about them way too late.

Someone who has been here for a month, but managed to read 20 hours a day on everything and learned all the ways could become not so newbie and even get to being a good crypto person. It is not about the time you spend here but more about how you spend that time that matters even more.

For me personally maybe I will sell half of the coins to make a profit and then wait for the coin price to drop to buy again, because usually when one of the coins has reached a new ATH then after that the price of the coin will experience a temporary price decline because it is caused by some investors who make sales in large quantities so that the price of coins will go down.
That is clearly true because each coin is also not at its ATH price for too long so the potential for it to go down again is always greater and it would be very good if everyone wanted to make a buy back order at a lower price with their respective percentages.

Yes ATH is time to sell. Profit booking is very essential in crypto. In Crypto every one is investing take profit. If no one sold them how whale make profits?
Crypto market will again give you chance to buy at lower price. You can see the results of other coins Sol,Luna,Axie,Eth. Check their ATH and today price. If someone sold in ATh and bought now he is real winner.

In that case, holding isn't wise, you have to sell them right away.
A lot of people have missed the chance of not selling their assets during the ATH, some had to think about more due to greed, yet we don't know what things to happen next. That is why selling is a smart choice rather than missing it.

Buy low and sell high, that was our main goal. Stop looking and wanting for more for sometimes the market gives us no favor.

It is not easy to find your own winning strategy i would do so long term hold yes but with a goal for example to sell when the token doubles its value compared to what you bought it

If you have a coin that reach an ATH you have to evaluate WHY this happens.
Likewise, there is a new "altcoin season"? any new development? or it's just speculation?
If you are not able to identify the reason for that pump/ATH probably it's better to sell.

However I think that is very rare that a coin after years will realize another ATH without a tangible reason.
Pump and dump scheme are orchestrated most of the times only with coins with not much trading history.

You mean to say portfolio, there is no supernatural way of investing in crypto than to always buy low and sell high, avoid getting greedy and always be open to ideas, new altcoins are riskier but they have 10x potential.

Sell, if you want to reinvest it somewhere.

As a newbie, if you have confidence on that token then you shall hold it if you're for the long term.

But if it's on these times and you're looking forward to grow your wallet, there's really a need to start selling and then invest it to another crypto like bitcoin, ethereum and bnb.

simple question. if you ask when to buy and when to sell. I think people already know what they're going to do.
if I was on the side of the OP then I would sell some (profit) and the rest I hold for the long term.

Well, this question has matter a lot --first, let us know about you are token that holding, because if that token has potential if you think, for sure it will increase will perhaps double or triple the price. That is how the token will give a profit, it is folded many times because they are just easy to the hype or if it has huge investors the price will increase too. Just set a limit, aim for target profit, you will not regret it if this will down at the end of the day because you have profited, just reinvest into a safe coin like bitcoin.

Everyone expects the coin to reach a new ATH, moreover the coin has been stored for years in the wallet, then what do you expect, if the coin is already in a new ATH, holding back whether it can reach ATH again or vice versa, I think you can sell now, rather than waiting for the uncertain, let alone the coins you mentioned we don't recognize because you didn't mention it clearly

Please do not assume but you can just do it now since you can reap more benefits when you long term hold a good coin. If your plan is to hodl for many years then you should stick with it and you shouldn't get distracted of any gains you see even if it's a new ATH because that is the start for you to betray your plans or to not stick with any of your future plans.

Sounds not good isn't it? the only way to get successful is when you have a control of your self and follow what you really want. Seeing a coin hits a new ATH is more better than seeing it dump because that only means that the coin has more potential and in the future it can reach another new ATHs.

If I were you, when I saw some of my tokens go up very high and hit a new ATH, I would sell them instantly and without a second thought because it was a surprise for me. After reaching a very high increase, the token will inevitably experience a decline, and often even the token will get a deep decline and maybe return to its original price. If that happens and the token has the potential to grow, you can buy the token again, and this time, the amount you can buy will be more than before, and you can still get a lot of profit.

I think you are making reference to the growth of tokens in your wallet. When the token you are holding for years grows to all-time high, I will prefer to make a sale of some sizeable percentage of the coin/token especially if it is a meme coin, and leave some of the tokens for another likely growth. ATH does not mean it has stopped growth, and selling all the tokens means you will not have the opportunity to benefit  from the coin/token when it grows again - it might just be that the tokens just started its growth and you lose if you sell outright.

You have to learn to analyze deeply about the project you are interested in,
I'm sure there will always be regrets when our tokens arrive ATH but we sell them.
Take it easy, cryptocurrency projects continue to grow every time, there is always something new and there is always something new that dominates the high, what is needed is experience so that we can be patient in dealing with extreme markets. If you feel you deserve to hold on to it never sell until your target is reached.

It is a simple thing to do when your tokens hit a new ATH and you know it has, all you have to do is sell them off. You do not want to wait again for its value to struggle to appreciate any more. There are tokens that finally collapse after they hit ATH and those who decide to continue to hold them without selling will regret not getting them off. Whatever you want to do, do not get scared of selling tokens you hold and taking your profit if you have to.

Assuming I've made up my mind to hold on to a token for many years but after a year this token hit a new ATH what should I do as a newbie? Sell or not sell?

Usually, when buying a coin, a trader initially sets a goal, upon reaching which he will sell the coin. If you see that the coin has reached ATH, and you do not want to sell it, as you expect further price growth, you need to set a stop loss in case a dump follows after high to protect your profit.
good planning must be made before buying coins. it is difficult to stay consistent with the plans made.
many make plans in advance but are too greedy to expect ATH. and ultimately will not feel the benefits.
plan the time and price to avoid losses and still make a profit.
