For you to be able to protect your account from hackers, first you need to observe and see if the site you are using is secured that it does not save and access your private information and you are the only one who can have an access on it. Be mindful not to share any information about your account such as your private key or seed or password you have used on creating your account online. Better not to use public wireless internet connection so that hackers cannot have access on your device. If you doubt or think that you are not safe online, you can use hardware wallets instead of online wallets so that you are the only one who can have access on your assets. Just be responsible on keeping your seed or password used to access your account. Always use double security system like 2FA authentication so that you will be notified once an intruder is trying to access your account online.

Protecting ones wallet from hacker is a very careful practice one needs to put in place. Hardware wallet is the best when storing digital assets and i will like to say users should desists from downloading any kind of applications because most of this applications are developed by hackers and scammers

As long as it's still connected to the internet connection, I'm not sure my wallet will be safe from hacker attacks. The only way to be safe from hacker attacks is to use a hardware wallet like Ledger.

Be mindful that hackers are all over the place now who are seeking for an account to break in so you.need to be very cautious about people around you and who share your details with thus your private key. No one is to be trusted. Be vigilant.

Store your private keys in a separate physical wallet away from your computer or any other digital devices.

Hardware wallets are still the beat but even just as safe as they are, keeping your private keys safe is still the right way to go.

I use stainless steel dogtags which is restaurant to fire and water to save my private keys because paper can be destroyed easily.

Most of the time people lost their account or it getting hacked because of their fault. Hacking a wallet is not easy. Most of the time we lose things up and hackers got the chance to take it. Most of the time they use the easiest hack called pishing to fool us. That's why I would suggest buy a hardware wallet that will help a bit.

This is for those who use wallets with cheap transaction fee, such as ethereum based wallets.
There are some who cannot yet afford to purchase a hardware wallet. On that note, i have a suggestion on how your wallet can be safe from hackers. I have always noticed wallets that get easily hacked are those that are subject to public view.
Try as much as possible to have a separate cold wallet address that you do not copy and paste the private key, and neither do you share the address with anyone. You can use it to store most of your valuable coins.
Even if you want to transfer any coin or token to an address belonging to another person, first transfer it to your public wallet before sending it out.
Always hackers is searching your weekness like forced you to follow scam address, fake reward offer. Bookmark your address, write you private key or print, turn secondary security and secret question. You should use a difficult password.

I always tell people this whenever I have the opportunity to do so, as long as you keep your details safe and private, the chances of you or your accounts getting hacked is quite low. Make sure you do not share your personal information on sites that you do not trust, and always double check the security of a site before you log into it.

I've been using MEW for 5 years now, and thanks GOD, I am not a victim of hacking. To protect from hackers, always bookmarked the web address and keep your private key safe. Do not open any link from email , instead type the website into your web browser.
I also used the address from MEW and that's been fine until now, which needs to be done to avoid phishing and viruses that can steal your private key.
Repeat, bookmark the official address to open your address.

It is true, you need hardware wallet as soon as possible if you have more money in the cryptocurrencies. You can't trust any custodial wallet or exchange because they can be hacked or run out with your money.  Wink

You can buy a new cheap smartphone or use your old one, install a version of any trusted wallet on it, throw your coins there and disconnect the phone from the Internet, as well as take out the SIM card. When the phone has no connection to the Internet it will then be a cold wallet.

In my own personal opinion, it is hard to predict whether you are being hacked or not because there are really a lot of hackers nowadays, and as you said no one can afford a hardware wallet like ledger, that is why i suggest if they would split their profit in different trusted crypto wallets for them to avoid losing a lot of profit.

Even if you want to transfer any coin or token to an address belonging to another person, first transfer it to your public wallet before sending it out.
Before create new wallet, same advice for all. Do not copy and paste, don't take screenshot of your public key or 12 phases word, don't share with another and don't visit scam sites. Hardware wallet is safe from all problem but extra cost, same extra cost if you move to your public wallet.

Copy paste will make you do the wrong thing to send to others or accidentally you do for many people to know. You should be very careful with that because it is very sensitive
Copy and paste is fine if you know what you are doing and also you know well that your computer is not affected by virus otherwise it could be keylogged and your data will be stolen.
As I've experienced using a hardware wallet is really fine but not really worth it for people who just has few bucks in their address and also the need to always plug your hardware wallet for the sole reason of having the access to your wallet.
Using a desktop wallet or mobile wallet is still relatively fine if you always enable 2 factor authentication or some sort of additional security measures just incase. Honestly, I've never seen people who accidentally paste their privkey and send it to someone else though, the privkey that you copied in the clipboard will easily be replaced everytime you make a new copy of text so that's kinda rare. you could just copy some random text after copy and paste your privkey.

I was surprised at what happened to a friend some days ago. He bought some ethereum and within 30 minutes it was discovers that the ETH had been transferred to another wallet. He was wondering how that could be possible, without exposing his wallet PK.
If you still save or have your PK on your email or phone notebook, you might be prone to hack.
He however agreed to this and deleted every private info on his email.

Using extension wallets are the safest provided no one gets access to your computer or mobile devices. If you use your devices carefully and avoid downloading links or filling forms you don't know their contents, then your wallet is safe.

It's one great way to secure the funds you have or a valuable one for you. But maybe the hacker will continue to look for ways to get what they want to do.

Yes having a secure wallet is our responsibility we should secrete our wallet by keeping it away from unknown people and never give your private key to them. Hackers does exist around us but we can avoid them by using good wallet and keeping the private key secret. Using block chain as your wallet is the best thing it’s strongest wallet among all.

Follow the basic safety rules of using the wallet, and if you want to better secure your wallet, you can buy a hardware wallet, but this is when there is a large amount of money on your wallet

My learning from the hacking case makes me prefer buying a paid wallet which is safer in my opinion to secure my assets from hacking. This has been proven because what is happening right now is that my assets are safe in the wallet. I bought a nano-s wallet after hacking that previously my assets were in Myetherwallet
