Its hard to protect our MyEtherWallet account but due to the recent hacking of DNS which affects a lot of members and then they hacked, maybe this is the best time to make a prevention, in my case, i bookmark the website that i need to access, any red flags that me happen, i didn't continue it, i mean for safety reasons, because we take a lot of effort to make a money in cryptocurrency, and then in just a seconds our account has been hacked? So i cannot take that to happen, its better to prevent now than be a victim.

Due to the recent incident of hacking, i am more cautious when opening my account as much as possible i never open my account, i just view the recent transactions of my account by accessing the etherscan, which for me is the best way.

Have a great day

Be sure whether it is original URL or not and use in privare systems. And do not disclose your private key. Better use it for metamask.

Just open on your own personal laptop, Make sure you're free from any virus. Check always the URL or better yet bookmark it so you'll know you're accessing the legit site. In addition add metamask on your browser.

Not to crack the wallet, private keys should be stored offline on a flash drive with a password, and not in a text file on the desktop, so you do not to shout at all forum that you were hacked. And of course not to go to the same myetherwallet through the search engine on the first available link. It is possible that in the 1st place in the search engine will be advertising phishing site.

Work through the MetaMask plugin.
The key idea of this wallet is protection from false addresses and secure payments (exchange, transfers) in ETH and derived tokens directly on the sites.
Use MetaMask as an intermediate wallet.  Grin

1. BE sure that you are accessing the right URL. Don't trust Google/Bing ads on search results.
2. Use it only with EAL or MetaMask or Cryptonite. I prefer MetaMask
3. Never access it with private key, because copy/paste data can be easily scrambled.

I guess you are missing some important things, never try to access any suspicious site using the computer that has used to store our privatekey ( To avoid the possibility of malware and keylogger)
It may better if we can do offline MEW rather than use online MEW, remember DNS problem and it's very useful.

could you tell us more about DNS

Thanks

Stop with all that bullshit of protecting your MEW and just buy a ledger wallet, that is the best investment that you can make, seriously.
I Bought one, and it changed my entire life, i am not joking on this.

To say that Ledger cnange my entire life is to strange for me. Only if your life is fully in the alts and nothing more

For subject. Metamask and local version of MEW solves 99% doubts

There is only a simple ways in protecting your MyEtherWallet: Do not give your private key to other people that you didn't know well, be aware of signing in your Mew to exchanges like Etherdelta, Forkdelta or IDEX because sometimes this exchanges have a pishing sites, don't sign up your key to airdrop forms.

Regarding the recent hack with MEW I guess that really scared most of their users. But that could have been prevented if they had listened with what Blue told them.

Now they lose some of their users because of trust issues.
Try offline wallets now or be updated with what is happening in your environment to not let this happen again. Do not let your browser keep your wallets logged in.

it is simple, make sure that you visit their original website and check the website is not phishing. then don't publish your private key to anyone. if you get email by someone you don't know and ask you your private key, don't give them. be careful will make your wallet safe.

To make sure that the MEW wallet is protected, never use private key again. Better use Json files with password. When hackers hackes the mew, even accessing the same website they have ways to copy or access the private key.

Check the URL it should be always green, it should say MyEtherWallet Inc [US] & always do check the certificate by clicking on a green lock to ensure it is valid & genuine. Bookmark myetherwallet page & never visit the website by doing a google search. Install uBlock Origin chrome extension recommended by myetherwallet to block pop up ads & Cryptonite chrome extension by MetaCert to block phishing websites.

Maybe will be better to do not use it.
If you wanna use MEW, i guess that safest way is with hardware wallets like Ledger.

Always verify is you are on httpS with valid certificate.
As other uses said before, never log in your account using privatekey or keystrokes.

I was looking for the same information, in order to operate with greater security. In general I am quite cautious, but after the last week's events it is good to inquire and increase those protections.

Official page of MEW has posted 19 points for protecting yourself and your funds. I won't post here the link (just for security reasons) but you can find it on the official website.

Among them, I find more interesting the points:

 - Get yourself a Ledger or TREZOR Hardware wallet.

 - Bookmark your crypto sites.

 - Install EAL or MetaMask or Cryptonite by Metacert to warn you if you go to a malicious website.

 - Run MEW Locally / Offline.

 - Do not trust messages or addresses or URLs sent via private message. Always verify information w/ a secondary source.

 - Don’t click on advertisements.

- No one is giving you free or discounted ETH.

- Use your brain Smiley

Currently I am in the process of installing Cryptonite by Metacert
