I almost use google translate for discussion. I think the quickest way to be good at English is to contact people who speak English everyday.

well fella that is a quick way to get 0 merits, same with joining all those bounties and it has to be said that if you post like the below you will have 0 merits in a year.

Currently, there are too many ICOs on the market, which is why many ICOs fail. Maybe their product is not good, the promotion is not widespread, and the community is less.

So its up to you, learn, adapt and become part of the community then have the possibility of getting on a decent signature campaign at 0.03BTC a week.. or keep hunting for the $10 bounties.

To be honest Tman, ever since this merit system was introduced to the forum, a lot of comments,  discussions and debates are happening. In spite of that, I am silently reading and following your threads/posts as your honest criticisms captured my interest. But now, I decided to come out of the shell and express my sincere gratitude to you. Since you inspired me a lot, I have took your opinions and suggestions as a challenge for me to be able to write high quality and constructive posts in an improved grammar.

Btw, I am from the Third World country and English is not my first language.

Good to hear man

I am also unable to understand what is the problem with small grammar mistakes.  If some English speaking man tries to speak in my native language and is able to communicate with some mistakes I will welcome him.  I will appreciate him.
I think a sense of supremacy is there in the minds  of English people.  What is there in the language?  Communication should be complete and understandable. There is also difference of culture.  People from eastern world are brought up in a culture where you have to use respect showing words while speaking to your seniors, elders.  But if the same respect is given to those English type people ; they take it otherwise.    Wink
Japanese people when meet others bow down to show respect.  It is part of their culture.  And the people claiming to be "class A" may be taking it otherwise in their own way.
I was using sir while addressing others; just because of my habit of paying respect but after reading such comments; I have stopped, but only on bitcoin forum.  Otherwise in my routing life I can not behave like this.  I have to respect my elders with respect showing words.

My experience is ; While in Rome do as Romans do.
If by not using such words someone is satisfied why shall I use? Grin

Dude its not grammar, mine is far from perfect it is the total shitposts that look like I took my penis and randomly jammed it into the keyboard repeatedly. Its the people we cannot understand that is the issue, there is nothing wrong with your post I can read it fine dude.

now the Sir thing is stupid, some posters see it as respect - 9/10 posters from the west hate it.

you need to look to others for advise if you are lacking merits fella, this isn't directed at you.

Please, do not put that much emphasis on language and get more into the meat of the posts. If I can understand a post, I would consider it for merit only based on the ideas, sources, knowledge, etc. If the poster has a shitty English (like myself) but a great crypto knowledge I am happy to have him/her around.

I think the people who are offended are the people who are labelled as shitposters, because they cannot write posts in proper English.

THIS ISNT ABOUT YOU OR ANYONE ELSE WHO POSTS AT THE SAME LEVEL AS YOU!

Sorry but I had to do that in capitals so it gets through to you and anyone else of a similar level of English

er...
bitcoin transaction has advantages and disadvantages. for example, sometimes bitcoin transaction takes a lot of time even for a high fee, that obvious disadvantage for bitcoin, but it is still can be developed. for me, i really enjoy use bitcoin because i think bitcoin is easy to use it, especially for international transaction.

whats this?
Bitcoin is easy to use and easy to buy, but making it as our payment system is a bad idea, first of all on its transaction you need to pay a high transaction fee for waiting a long of time to receive or send the transactions that one of advantage. even if bitcoin develops and upgrades its system it is impossible even now some of the countries ban it  just think if you make it a payment system not all will agree.

and?
The advantages of bitcoin relative to legal currency are more directly reflected in the payment technology level. As with the credit expansion level, the payment technology of the legal tender system can be adopted, while many of the technologies paid by bitcoin are not realized by fiat money.

that's only from the 1st page, I swear I could get my kids pet cat to walk across the keyboard and make more coherent sentences

I never thought it was about me, because I received 58 merit points without using 100% proper English.

There is nothing wrong with you helping people to acquire merit, but this forum can be filled with posts with proper English and it will still add ZERO value, because the content is crap and off-topic.

We are looking for people who can ask intelligent questions and who can analyse problems and come up with novel solutions. We want fresh and stimulating content and even something with a little humour.

I hope the people ON MY LEVEL  Roll Eyes, that can speak and write more than one Languages, gets this.  Roll Eyes

do you think everyone is just about merit?

I think do not to be offended, TMAN create this post, for people who have something important that need to be shared, but they can't write English properly. It's a chance for those people including me (non English peoples) to improve our English. In a fact, there are a lot peoples creating a new post every hours. What they are looking for? Some of them show us that they want to get some merit after handing out their posts, And the rest just hiding it. It's the honest thought. Anyway, I didn't see any negative in this TMAN's thread.

Joe's Signatureless Challenge
@TMAN,

What you say all makes sense,

I have just finished a long Signature Campaign (for an ICO that I really like) and now that its finished, its like a weight has been lifted. No more checking spread sheets and watching how many posts etc.

Definitely looking forward to a signature less time out!

Hmmmm I'm composing a topic before I put it somewhere in meta, I think pen and paper are still needed when creating a thread and put some details and check again before encoding.

This might help you to improve your constructive post when you are not in front of your PC.
I see some threads with too much wrong gramming,  misspelled,  and grammatically error but some stupid hero members/ full members/ members/ and even legendary account are just answering the thread with out even advising the OP to correct their mistakes....

I think posting like this should be much more in the future, because it is very helpful for us junior members. and like words, open your mind before opening your mouth. very helpful  Wink

Best Regards

Really appreciated this very informative post especially from the ranked user who is really trying their best to educate newbies. Thumbs up to TMAN. This will really helps the forum users who   wants to ranked up specially those recently registered in this forum like me. This explained very well and newcomers will clearly understand what actually merit system affected the quality of this forum.
To those crying about merit system, this will guide you step by step and helps you achieved your goals to ranked up.

Thanks. I am glad this is helping some members. One other thing to add, USE SEARCH : if you have a question or an idea that you want to start your own thread about then search 1st, in all likelihood there are already multiple threads out there, if you make redundant threads you risk being put on ignore by the merit sources

Alongside posting in decent English (for people to understand what you're saying) another good point would be to make sure your posts are visible.

So, posting in long & useless mega-threads (after page 5) will not get you any merits. You will just be increasing the spam and making the whole forum experience worse for everyone.

You can also get more visibility by posting in review service threads like the one TMAN has open or you can also post in mine here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/vlad230s-post-review-service-jr-member-and-up-open-3212390

As I see on what you want to preach. all those members that dont have proper English is a 3rd world shit poster!
You might consider your language there, it is near to racism. it is not their fault that they (im one of those) are not born in an English land!
But still proper english is not all that are needed to get a merit, yes it is one way to communicate and to understand things here but without a good value and knowledge with it, a sentence wont have a value.

Here the things are a bit more different, it's not matter of racism but the access to the merit and those who distribute it. If you can express yourself in english, you have a higher chances to get some, otherwise you have to hope that fellow countrymen, speaking your language can merit you, if you deserve of course.

OP, Why is proper English a requirement for Merit? I have seen 1000s of posts on this forum with proper English, but it adds little to the discussion. I give merit for constructive posts that adds value to the discussions. You can write a Wall of Text, with proper English and it still adds no value.

The English language requirement for some sections on this forum is acceptable, because it is a universal and popular language.  Out of the world's approximately 7.5 billion inhabitants, 1.5 billion speak English — that's 20% of the Earth's population. However, most of those people aren't native English speakers. About 360 million people speak English as their first language.

http://www.stgeorges.co.uk/blog/learn-english/how-many-people-in-the-world-speak-english

So if 80% of the rest of the world speak other languages, should we exclude them from our main Bitcoin discussions?

Also the use of "3rd world poster" as a derogatory labelling of non-English posters are simply wrong. Would you say, Italian and German people are "3rd world posters", because they do not use English as their first language?   Sad

This is an English language forum so I need to be able to understand what people are posting. EU based members do not post the horse shit google translate 100 words when 1 will do shitposts, I know plenty of Dutch and German posters that type better English than I do, Your English is probably better than mine.. This isn't a pop at you buddy, its the Asian bounty hunting groups that are causing the issue.

As for defining a quality post, that isn't what I am trying to do here. A quality post is subjective to the reader, Lauda will expect perfect technical knowledge, I prefer something with humor..

This is to help newbies stand out and get the attention of merit sources. Agree, disagree or call me a racist - as I said it is all subjective.

My intentions with my reply was not meant to offend anyone or to be negative. Let's just get that out of the way first, before we can have a meaningful discussion about this topic. I think the people who are offended are the people who are labelled as shitposters, because they cannot write posts in proper English.

I like to believe that I am semi-bilingual, but English is not my first language, so I struggle at times. My gripe is with the Grammar Nazi's , who constantly wants to use refined vocabulary and grammar on a platform that are frequented by people from many different countries and also different languages.

It is sometimes very difficult to express yourself in another language , when that language is not your first language. These people have to work harder to adhere to the high post requirements and has to put in a lot more effort to express themselves. Instead of penalizing these people and labelling them, we should applaud them for their extra efforts.

I do agree with you, that some standards should be uphold to make things easier and simple to understand, but if posts are not 100% correct < spelling and grammar>, then we should not disregard these contributions.

Let's tolerate some errors in spelling and grammar and rather concentrate on the content of the message.  Wink

Thanks TheQuin & theyoungmillionaire.. now all the negativity has been dealt with, if anyone else needs help/advise then please post away.

The thread in meta was positive, most newbies don't even have a clue what meta is though so I thought I would post it here to help. If other senior members who have been merited frequently want to chime in to help the newbies then please feel free.

I don't want to get into dissecting what a quality post is, what I want here is the discussion around what is not a quality post, this isn't about spoon feeding merits.
