Don't jump in at this moment!

Altcoins have become zero sum game, only good for shorting. Unless you are interested in short term trading, don't invest in altcoins for now. Regarding Bitcoin, wait for 19th-20th March as there will be a G20 Summit and there might be more regulations or even a ban. Right now sentiments are negative. Bitcoin is touching bottom one after the other. Right now, entering the market will crush you and won't be profitable. Bitcoin will most probably touch $4000 levels in 1-2 months. So, wait till then as altcoins tens to follow bitcoin's price action.

If you have $ 5,000, I think you should buy ethereum, its price is still pretty cheap and it is likely to go higher than the bitcoin, ethreum will overcome bitcoin weakness and it will replace copper bitcoin

For me, with had a little experience about investing, I would suggest for you to invest in both currency, it is an altcoin and bitcoin. If I were you, I would invest half in altcoin and the rest is in bitcoin, with that strategy, you will see that which both of them could earn more profit, is it altcoin or bitcoin? So, you have a comparison in that particular situation, you will noticed which is better and which is faster for you to earn money.

That's actually good money for investment,, lot of choices available with that money. Can invest full money into bitcoin or else half of the amount into ethereum and the remaining into low price altcoins. I feel better to invest 50 percent in bitcoin and the remaining 50 percent in eth.

$2000 BTC

Divide this money into three parts. And invest them into three currencies. I would invest in Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin. It is a classic row of coins on my mind. Maybe with the time you will find some other interesting coins.
