I recommend looking at the top 20 coins on coinmarketcap. Then find the projects that you think will still be around and doing well in 3 years based on your own research. I would diversify amongst 3-5 of these projects. If you like more risk repeat the same process with the lower market cap coins. Nobody has a crystal ball to reflect the future. I find it best though to invest in projects you believe in, take calculated risks based on your tolerance, and do some diversification. Best of luck.

It is very dangerous to ask here what to buy, you always should do your own research before investing your money. But recently i was looking such coins too for my long term hold bag, and one of the best for long term hodl in my opinion, with a really good point for enter is PChain (PAI) token, and i advise you to pay your attention on it. But be very carefully, there will be a huge token unlock on September 01 and circulation supply will be much higher than now and it may dump the price even more than now, because there will be 30% of private round tokens unlocked and 50% of pre sale round tokens unlocked. It will be the final unlock as far i know, and it may be a really last good opportunity to enter Pchain, because this project is really awesome and very very prospective.
I really believe that there are a lot of altcoins that are undervaluated. Some of them I would suggest are EOS, Ethos, Bluzelle and Ethereum. But this is just my opinion

Are you serious? holding altcoin is not good for the long term. you better hold back bitcoin or ethereum.
I advise you to invest in altcoin Datum (DAT coin), because the project from Datum has a good idea and I'm sure the price of coin datum (DAT coin) will increase in the future.
I think that the coin ethereum would be most suitable for a beginner. It is now very low in price and in any case will grow well when the crypto-currency market begins to rise. You are thinking about very long term investment. So i think you have to invest in any of one good ico beacause in ico the price of tokens is very less and after long term it will definitely go to vwry high. How long do you plan to keep? : D If you have a lot of money, you shouldn't invest in BTC because you know little. You should invest in Altcoins because it's cheaper, you can comfortably choose.
