Market is full of alt coins that are needed to be hold in long term. I can advise you to buy lend , neo, trx and ethereum. Even bitcoin will be multiplied by couple of times in long term. You can’t hold your coins till market recovers and starts to climb up again
Ethereum is the best altcoin to hold for a longterm. As you can see now, the ethereum has been grew massively, it is now a secondary coin that you can use as a payment method second to bitcoin. I think ethereum has a great future.

I could recommend Peculium(PCL) when you want to hold some altcoin for a long term because they really have good plans, their CCO is ongoing right now and also, PCL was hype during it`s ICO.

I can only suggest you, find the best altcoin you think, and the altcoin can be trusted. search altcoin that has become top and much favored people. search the information in the altcoin, and analysis, is that altcoin will meet your needs.

I think it's a good altcoin to be a long-term investment like BCH, LTC, Ripple and ETH, because the coin has a clear concept and a great volume of other altcoins.
