I suggest you RIPPLE, IOTA, LITECOINE, WAVES and ADA, they are available for investment and hodl options. Your money will increase at the end of 2018. You wait until 2020. You will be rich. But you must be patient and calm.
We know it have some long term that was better to invest and hold it just like the sample you giving i know that coins and you get some profit for that, But you need to wait in long time to hold and need some some patient and calm and that is all true. For an altcoin, I will advice you to stick to ethereum as it is the highest coin and only coin that can be compared to bitcoin on market. If bitcoin (which is highly impossible) fails, ethereum is the next coin.

It depends on how much money you want to spend and if you are rather a risky person. If you have lots of funds and you like taking a risk, there is a single strategy. If you have little money and you're a conservative person, the strategy will be quite different!
