That's what the BTC/ETC maximalists are hoping for, going to new lows spending millions to do a flash crash on GDAX. ETH stays strong though, haters keep hating, hodlers keep balling.

People here often misread posts. My topic was a question "what if" to open a discussion, not a statement that ethereum will die or any kind of FUD.

If Ether dies, money will move back into bitcoin. Bitcoin and Ether have a mirror relationship in that when one is rising the other falls.

As to which alt will replace eth if it does - oldies like Litecoin and doge will have a chance, after all they've been tried and tested and are still here.
That is not entirely true,Ethereum is just a token creating platform, like waves, antshares, ark etc etc and there are many more and i do not want to list everything here and you really cannot compare a token creating platform to a crypto currency, bitcoin is way different than ETH or other token creating platforms and i hope OP got the answer what he is looking for. Ethereum dying ?? this must be a joke; im sure people spreading this bullshit don't not know anything about ethereum. My advice is to buy MOAR ether whenever its price dump. Do you research, read, go to github , see how they are doing; the market can be dumb sometimes and there is a new comer wave coming to crypto that are just investing cause their buddies told them to do so; It is normal from this perspective  like yesterday that everybody is sell panicking as soon as they read some FUD or the ethereum network is stuck as most of them are ignorant about the technology and what it can achieve in the future.
PS: I have participated in ETH ICO back in the days; so don't judge me with my newbie account Cheesy

if ethereum dies, (as if it will... based on demand and its popularity, well not unless there are some big/major reasons why it will die), best option for me is not to invest in any smart contract platforms. The collapsed of ETH is the indication not to invest your money at all.

ETH won't die, but it will dump from the peak.
Yes ethereum won't die, all of the altcoins always are fluctuating but ethereum will dump doesn't mean it will be dead, ethereum has large of capitalization, the investors never burn their money with hard dump ethereum and the fundamental of ethereum is very strong because of smart contract and many dapps be made on ethereum's blockchain.

If Ethereum dies many of its users of ETH will be so upset, also will be angry because ETH now is so popular and many had been using it for years, also its the 2nd biggest famous crypto-currency  nowadays.

If Ethereum dies, will people still trust smart contracts?
This would be the main thing when ETH would die or either dump.People will surely lost its trust smart contracts which means all coins under this will surely be affected. There are really people who do love to see ETH die on the soonest. As been said above if it would die then there are lots of promising alts do exist on the market and i bet you, you cant choose all of them  Grin
That would definitely be my natural reaction if ethereum was to die because its survival is directly affected by these smart contracts, it would also have a negative bearing on them as they are dependants of each other... which would push people towards other crypto coins and see alts like bitcoin soar tremendously.

So You think Rootstock could host them? Never heard of it before.

But what prevents BTC itself to accommodate smart contracts at some point in the future (lay person question here)?
it is pretty new. it just recently raised $1 million. and it is supposed to bring smart contracts to bitcoin utilizing the side chains. so it will be instant transactions and very cheap ones at that. to find out more about it please visit their official website: http://www.rsk.co/

Pusuer. ...how is RSK going?
Does Rootstock mean that btc can do anything ETH can?
eventually yes. that is the final goal. there will be a lot of challenges along the way but it seems like a pretty good project to me. here is another link: https://medium.com/@CryptoIQ.ca/rootstock-smart-contracts-on-the-bitcoin-blockchain-e52b065421a8

It is a centralized sidechain and therefore has distinct disadvantages.
I don't see anything centralized about it!

You sound like someone who is connected to RSK. I woudn't bet on you not being biased.
