Ridiculous, these are no better than suicide bombers. Seriously. a cow's life is much more valuable than a human's? So, they stop traffic flow when cows cross the street? These people seem to have black and white view of life. Can't they understand that other people don't subscribe to these beliefs?

Hopefully this sort of intolerance will stop. It seems this have some sort of nationalist tinge to it.

Hindus believe cow as their sacred animal. Most of them dont eat it and they think killing cow as a sin.But what the problem is,in india, some hindus call themselves as cowrakshaks, meaning saviors of cow and they start attacking and even killing other people if found eating beef or carrying beef with them.Either you dont kill cow, otherwise you will be killed. Its their slogan.

Which is one of the reasons why i see India as a third world country. I respect almost everyone's believe, but to kill other people because you don't agree with them is just plain idiotic.

It's abysmal to kill a guy just because he is selling beef.

From what I have read on this, this is a result of a regulatory change pushed by the new chief minister in a fairly right wing administration. The right would like to see beef slaughtering completely banned, as cows are sacred to the religious right in India. This has resulted in a campaign of small cuts; the regulatory bar is being raised to price many meat producers out of the market. This is overwhelmingly affecting Muslims, as they do eat beef, and are one of the few over there that would process an edible cow carcass (non edible is a completely different discussion). A lot of vigilantism has cropped up; and is being used to reinforce caste. Because only the lower castes would touch a dead cow. So easy to mob and harass these guys, who are just doing a pretty shitty job to get paid.

I guess this would really limit what Muslims and other minorities there can eat. Do they even have Mc Donald's there serving Big Macs?

India is a very contradictory country. Among the population of India is really a common respect for the cows, but this does not prevent India to take fifth place in the world for beef production. These are the miracles there are in this country.
Hindus don't eat beef in nearly all cases.  It's other people who eat beef, because Indians aren't all the same group of people.  So they don't contradict themselves at all really.

If a Muslim woman got together with an Indian man, would they become vegetarians?

 Cheesy

When a Muslim woman marries a Hindu man, in 90% of the cases, the male converts to Islam. On the other hand, if a Muslim man marries a Hindu woman, then in 99.99% of the cases, the Hindu female converts to Islam. So it is obvious. The vegetarian starts eating beef after marrying a Muslim.
Them that there is nothing more to talk about in the family? Who cares what faith? I'm an atheist but Buddhism and Hinduism do. And cows in India someone kills you? Only the Muslims? In stores probably also sell beef. What are Muslims too?

A lot of people eat beef in India, and it is not just limited to the Muslims. Beef is like staple dish for the Christians, who form the majority in states such as Kerala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland. Also, a lot of Hindus (especially the lower castes) eat beef outside the cow-belt states. And even some of the cow-belt Hindus eat beef, once they are out of India.

Probably in old times in the time of hunger cows were more important than people. The issues probably was that people can t eat grass. From other side from cow s milk a lot of products can be done and it was much more profitable to have the cow, rather than killing it. Obviously when there were too much of people and very few of cows, cow life cost was higher. Maybe it s still higher in some regions.
The cow in India is considered a sacred animal. The cow to Hindus is equivalent to the status of the mother, because this animal has such maternal qualities as humility, kindness, wisdom and peace.
There are several legends that tell about how a cow became a sacred animal of the Hindus. And they are all very interesting.
According to Hindu mythology, the Hindu, to after death get to heaven, you must cross the river. To make it possible only with the help of the cow, holding its tail.
The Puranas (ancient sacred text of Hinduism) says that the Gods, creating the ocean, took from him a cow Kamdhenu that could grant any wish. Hindus believe that each cow is Kamdhenu and can also fulfill human desires, if it is to love and honor.
The cow is a wet nurse because milk and all dairy products are very beneficial for human health.

I do think that they believe in that, but some of them are not. They believe in saving the cows so we should just respect their beliefs. There are other things that you could get cow beef or something.

Still makes no sense killing people for eating/killing cows.

Those are isolated incidents. During the last three decades, less than 10 people have been killed in India for cow-slaughter. The number of Hindus killed by Muslims in Bangladesh during the same period is almost 10,000 times that number, but no one mentions about it. The Indian media is under the control of evangelical christian cabals, and whenever they get a chance to tarnish the Hindu majority, they make the maximum use out of it.
Probably all the inhabitants of Europe are in danger, because they consider it to be more useful meat than pork. Therefore, meat of cattle is very popular there. But if the Hindus kill for this, then you need to be careful. Muslims kill those who eat pork, and the Indians of those who kill the cow.

There is a lack of uniformity among State laws governing cattle slaughter. Most States prohibit the slaughter of cows of all ages. However, Assam and West Bengal permit the slaughter of cows of over the ages of 10 and 14 years, respectively. Most States prohibit the slaughter of calves, whether male or female.

If you are living in a country, then you should obey the local laws. Cow slaughter is illegal in India, and despite that members of the minority community perform it and trade with raw beef. If you don't obey the laws, then you have only yourself to blame.

I agree. Although it's ridiculous things that people in india believe, but do what

Is this really true for all hindus? I guess that there are only few who do this act, maybe overpowering the beliefs in a new way.
Didn't know that a cow's life is more precious than with a man  Huh.

Eating beef products is a good way to expand your waistline and increase your chances of becoming impotent and developing heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and other health conditions. Research has shown that vegetarians have 40 percent the cancer rate of meat-eaters. Plus, meat-eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than vegans are. Every time you eat animal-derived foods, you’re also ingesting fecal material, antibiotics, dioxins, and a host of other substances, some toxic, that can accumulate in your body and remain there for years.

Oh I love to eat beef: Cow, pig, rabbit, wild boar, Goat, chicken, duck. Even with all these things you said would still continue to eat beef

Can you give assurance that any one will not be killed if found eating beef, the meat of so called sacred cow in those states..Eating beef in india is a matter of Life and Death.

I can give you assurance that no one will harm you if you eat beef in states such as West Bengal, Kerala, and Meghalaya. Just avoid doing so in the cow-belt states (Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan.etc).

I think majority of the Indian population are Hindu and that's the reason why the nation has regulations that gives importance to animals much than the human beings, though animals weree given by God to fulfill the humans needs.

It is a simple matter and the best thing to do if you are a beef eater then you must stay away from India to avoid being killed. The presence of extremist in India are just taking their faith in an extreme level which is also not good. If we are visiting that place we must at all cost respect their cultures and respect their sacred animals to honor their culture and to protect our lives at the same time. Thus that is a win-win solution but if you are not sure and afraid of those realities in India then better to stay away from that country.

Don't be so afraid. Even in the hard-core Hindu states such as Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, buffalo meat is readily available in the Muslim areas. And in moderate states such as Maharashtra and Telengana, you can get cow-meat without much trouble (although it is not 100% legal). And cow meat is legal and easily available in at least half of the Indian states, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Mizoram, Nagaland, Jammu Kashmir, Sikkim.etc.
