It somehow reminded me of stories about some gamblers who resorted to borrowing money from their relatives and friends to continue gambling with the hope of winning back the money they lost in the casinos. I guess it is better for gamblers to learn how to stop gambling and cut losses early if they found themselves starting to borrow money to gamble as the chances for them to recoup their losses are very low.

From very low to non existent as I have yet to hear a story of how a homeless person in full debts managed to go to the casino to win big and to pay back all debts, win money and to buy a mansion for him to change the life from this to that. This means that most of the times, for me always whenever a person borrows money it is directly going to ruin himself if he put that money as a deposit in any casino and plays there. There are simply no stories of such persons and this should be enough to have as example that the statement "if you quit that's when you lose" maybe related to other fields in life but got nothing to do with gambling.

There's a popular  remark among gamblers in the part of  my country I reside. The saying is expressed like this "if you quit that's when you lose".  They use this statement to encourage and give futuristic hope to themselves that no matter how much they loss today or how many wagers they have lost they don't need to quit as it's possible you may be the next jackpot winner tomorrow. For it's like say don't quit yet there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

From what I observed from this statement is that, many of these gamblers have been misled by this very remark of a hypothetical hope which has liquidated their account.  While some who would have quit gambling long ago still hedge their hope on the idea behind the statement and keeps wagering.

Now let's take this to a discuss; how correct is this statement? And is there any similar statement like that in your home-country that's popularly used among gamblers to encourage themselves from quiting gambling because they're losing?
Or would you allow your decision to quit gambling to be affected by any popular statement among your fellow gamblers or it's a no no thing for you?

I feel maybe the author of that statement is an agent for a gambling site and was trying to encourage people to bet more knowing they stand a greater chance of losing, especially those that requires you to wager some fews before withdrawals it's a very wrong statement and people should decist from that idea, now my question is, are those people willing to lose their funds gradually for a long period of time till they hit the jackpot? and eventually you go broke due to that would you risk wagering your valuablable items to recover your losses? If yes then goodluck to them  but if no then why would people allow themselves to be deceived by wrong statements.

I've come across this similar statement where peope say they'll recover all their money before they quit, which is also wrong as well because that's one of the criteria of becoming addicted to gambling you should know when to pause for a while else you'll suffer more loss due to anxiety, however in my country some  people claim they can't quit because it's become part of their lifestyle, and if they're reputable many others mostly younger ones would want to emulate such lifestyle which is also very wrong.

Forcing ourselves when we lose is definitely not something that is very good to do, and as you said in such a case one must realize that returning to financial condition after getting a loss again and again should not be something easy and tends to be impossible so in this case the importance of trying to stop when we get a loss is very good. That can be one of the good things and make us at least not too focused on the gambling losses that have occurred.
We must realize that although ambition is good but being too ambitious especially in gambling will only destroy yourself.

If you don't gamble just for the money, you may never regret what you lose. But in reality most gamblers gamble to get fast money so when they stop they will really regret this bad habit. I often say that gamble responsibly so you won't feel much of the aftermath of it. Don't be 100% looking to make a profit on gambling, it's too difficult because the probability of your win is not always higher than the loss.

The true statement is, when you stop gambling, you have stopped spending money on gambling, which in turn will leave you with more of your budget that can be saved or spent elsewhere. Just like trading, cut losses are a good idea when you want to prevent more losses. But if you gamble for fun, then you will surely realize that losing is an integral part of gambling.
Those who gamble for a quick buck will only regret it because they have gambled a lot of money and never managed to get a big win. If you have lost several times, perhaps that is a sign for you to stop for a while to rest because if not, your desire to recover those losses will be even greater so that it can cause you to experience more and more defeats.

When you stop gambling, it means that your loss is that big and won't get bigger unless you continue playing gambling. Many people prefer to continue gambling because they hope to win some money to recover from their losses and also earn money. But it won't be what they think.

If you quit gambling you lose nothing, because gambling is something you play without expecting much back and also without losing yourself, this is all about getting lucky and you can keep gambling for many years without anything to show for it.

Instead of trying to make something from gambling I will advice you to spend less time with gambling and put more energy into your business or other things that requires your service, talent will get you there than game of luck.

Develop a skill or create one, make sure it's something demanding and you will see huge money flowing in, do not divert your energy into gambling, it's not going to with it, gamble for the fun of it and use small money too.

For it's like say don't quit yet there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

I'd take this advice if I'm not wagering with huge amount of money regularly. This advice can be suitable for purchasing lottery tickets in a daily basis where you will need to spend less than a dollar to maintain that combination you had for such a long time. But in a casino, it's a big no no. These people who gave advices such these statements are only after the money you can possibly win in a jackpot IF that one day comes to reality, BUT talking about reality, you will never going to be a winner in gambling technically speaking. With all the amount of money the casino accumulated when every time you lose is more than what they give back to you when you hit a jackpot.

That statement is never correct. I wouldn't totally quit gambling because that's one of the many ways I could find leisure with, but I should only manage to minimize the expenses and time I spent in gambling especially when you're already a family man. AND, most importantly, I wouldn't want to listen and be influenced by other people's advices such as this. Because, obviously they are just making you look like a fool.

Thats basically what gambling is. Convincing yourself that you can make the impossible possible. But people tend to go too far, they start mixing up reality with their fantasy world. That is what leads to the biggest losses. Gambling itself is fun, if you go small. But going big should be avoided because going big always stems from going with your "gut feeling" or emotions. No matter how lucky you think you are, you should never keep throwing your money into the fire just because you have lost control.

Anyone who says "if you quit that's when you lose" is an irresponsible person who's advice should never be followed. That kind of statement is mathematically untrue. If you quit, you win by not losing even more money.

This is how a gambler to lose everything at the end. They think there will be a bigger chance to win if they do more attempts, but it is actually the wrong way. Basically, every gambler knows how big the chance to win the jackpot/prize, it is very small chance. And do more attempts with bigger money, won't increase the chance to win. It is the wrong mindset that there will be futuristic hope. We must know when we must to stop, gambling shouldn't be excessively.

This is how gambling addiction starts.
Sure. And it is also how the gambler begins to lose everything. Then, he probably takes a loan and experiences more complicated problem in his life. That's the consequence of someone that believes on the popular remark.

I have some friends who are regular bettor. Some of them are not financially well. But they are very interested in gambling. Some take a break when they lost their money but then join again. They do not need to be encouraged because when they see others win they themselves are inspired and join again later. We all know that no risk no gain. To be successful you have to take risk otherwise there is no possibility of success from gambling this thought is very common in gambling world.
This thought is basically what drives the gambling world because most people are always interested when the story of some random gambler winning lots of cash gets to their ear's, its just like a man who had already lost hope in what he is doing until a source of goodnews about what he has been wishing and from that instance the possibility of the winner of such people being him never get out of his head and so the efforts to achieve success kicks in again and the gambling habits start all over.

I often hear this saying and those words often come out of those who get the win that day to encourage their friends who lose. Actually this saying can trigger more extreme decisions that someone will make in pursuit of victory because it is triggered by their desire to make a return on conditions when they lose. I think the main option to be aware of is to stop when you lose and try it another day when your emotional level can really be controlled in gambling.

On the one hand I have tried to do various ways of gambling where the rate of defeat will not be a good escape to chase victory on that day. But trying to determine when is the right time to do it again and that is what it means if you want to stop you will be considered a loser.

Gamblers who believe on this is going to lose more this remark or saying only favors the casinos because the casino is going to make a lot of profit if a gambler continue to gamble, gamblers should quit when he is already losing and chasing your loses will cause you to lose more, responsible gamblers will never believe is such remarks it's ok to other sports but I don't think you can apply it with gambling because this is very harmful and will lead you to become addicted to gambling.
Don't believe on every saying when it comes to gambling always check if this will do you good or harm.

I believe that it is the addicted gamblers that are always use to this say just to give hope to themselves on their losses. We all know the gambling rules that says,if you are losing, you should quit the game and play the next day.

When you see gambling as fun,you will not care about your losses and you wouldn't feel that quiting means that you are weak. Quiting shows that you are strong and can control yourself. Because if you quit today, you might resume back tomorrow. The more you play, the more you run into great loss because one can never win the house edge.

Quitting is never losing especially if you have fallen deeply into gambling addiction. There are some instances and situations wherein quiting will be the wisest thing to do particularly to those who have lost most of their savings and assets due to excessive gambling. The real lost of a gambler is the inability to control himself and being unable to deal with the risks.
For normal and disciplined gamblers, it is fine to take a break after losing because there will always be another chance to try our luck but we shouldn't chase our losses because worse situations might happen.

For me, this works only with investments and not with gambling. In gambling it is a matter of which would be gone first; you money in the pocket or your chance of winning. Indeed there will be that idea or a tendency to win back your losses on a single bet but question is when would that come into reality? Would you be still having enough money to reach that reality? Sometimes it is fine giving up and it is not something to be afraid of especially if you have no assurance of the outcome. Forcing your luck into something is a punch to the moon. Always manage the risk as much as possible.

I agree, in gambling it is a different story because even if you lose big on that specific day, you can always go back in the next day or next few days and have a fresh start.
I don't just believe in that phrase where it says that "If you quit, that's when you lose" because you cannot just make a decision to chase your loss because you know what are the risks if you will do that, you are lucky if you can do it successfully but before that, let's not forget the chances first as there is a huge chance to fail in the chase compared to the chances of success.

I think this literacy implies many meanings, I am quite familiar with the words "If you quit that's when you lose!". but in truth, it all depends on someone to interpret it. OK, since these words are defined for gambling, let's deal with it. Well, if a friend said that to me, then, what should I do, I don't care what they say.

Remember, that gambling is not a journey of life but rather for pleasure. quote If you quit that's when you lose, more precisely it is intended for other things. for example, in work, or other general issues related to one's social life or privacy. You also have to realize that no one can dictate the gambling that you do, unless your friends are trying to lead you into something. ideally you just ignore it, if you lose today, you can come back according to your financial condition and mood. in fact, I often hear this expression from several friends who have the same hobby of gambling. usually, they just do jokes just for fun. well, if someone of your friends says so, consider it a joke.

For it's like say don't quit yet there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

I want to say there is nothing bad to express hope in whatever you are doing but the above particular sentence is the reason that some gamblers have turn to addicts. They don't consider that luck is involved in it but they have taken it to be what they can't give up in and they consistently play to chase back their losses.  They work with hope for the bet to turn their way and when it doesn't, they are turning themselves deeper in betting. Although their are people who have benefited for consistently hoping for you who finally got it but at what percentage is that compared to those who never got it , that is the important thing to note.

And you mean that is a general saying? Like a term that is pervasively used among gamblers? I wonder what country you are residing in, but it sounds more like you are trying to transmit the saying from crypto to another domain. In crypto the saying is that when Bitcoin drops in price, you haven't lost anything until you really sold at a loss. While that makes some sense and has proven to be true on several occasions, I doubt it could be said with the same probability about gamblers not to stop gambling Smiley

It is actually quite the opposite in real life. In card games in particular, it is those who win the most who can accept when they are beat and let their hand go instead of giving the next card a try.
