There's a popular  remark among gamblers in the part of  my country I reside. The saying is expressed like this "if you quit that's when you lose".  They use this statement to encourage and give futuristic hope to themselves that no matter how much they loss today or how many wagers they have lost they don't need to quit as it's possible you may be the next jackpot winner tomorrow. For it's like say don't quit yet there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

From what I observed from this statement is that, many of these gamblers have been misled by this very remark of a hypothetical hope which has liquidated their account.  While some who would have quit gambling long ago still hedge their hope on the idea behind the statement and keeps wagering.

Now let's take this to a discuss; how correct is this statement? And is there any similar statement like that in your home-country that's popularly used among gamblers to encourage themselves from quiting gambling because they're losing?
Or would you allow your decision to quit gambling to be affected by any popular statement among your fellow gamblers or it's a no no thing for you?

That's a rediculous statement and I live by this one "you have to know when to hold them and when to fold them".  Quiting isn't losing, continuing to lose is losing lol.  Chasing bad bets one after another is literally the reason why people go belly up.  If you lose move on there's another day.
I agree with your statement that quiting isn't losing. A gambler must not lose huge amount of stakes before he'll be qualified to win a bet. When one isn't seeing any possibility of winning a particular bet then quiting is surely the best thing in other not to incur more loses
What about thinking of changing a different strategy in the way you make your predictions. It could be that the reason you are not having the possibility to win in a particular bet is tied to the strategy you're using and just maybe, changing to a new type might bring a big win. In my opinion I think quiting should be the last option for gamblers, except where you have tried many strategies or options and it's still not making a winning that's when quiting becomes the best thing to do.

"if you quit that's when you lose"

Some quotes or adages are not best fit into some situations we may be into, when you're gambling and seeing no results or you're getting addicted gradually and you keep spending on bet without winning over time and some one tells you if you quit you're a loser, that's very ridiculous, those kind of people are those that have been battard by gambling into hopelessness and they will only encourage you as well to continue gambling so that one day you both can be on the same level of rechedness together, they cannot advise you of not quitting when applying for a job, inventing on something or developing an important career in life, we have to wise up, quit or pause gambling when necessary before you're been told to continue or quit.

Or would you allow your decision to quit gambling to be affected by any popular statement among your fellow gamblers or it's a no no thing for you?
No I will not allow any statement to influence my mind especially about gambling, if I think about quitting then I will stop. Statements made by people from the gambling community near where you live could be the result of despair or it could be because they have entered into addiction, because usually those who are addicted will always think of continuing to gamble regardless of the outcome even when their finances have started to be threatened, and if we have ever met people who have strange slogans in their gambling activities it would be better to ignore because we certainly know that there must be limits in gambling both time limits and money limits used based on each individual's abilities, don't let alone about money even about time if we don't have time limits in gambling it can be very damaging to health and mentality because it is controlled by the same activity over and over again so that it can ignore other things that are important in this life.

Nothing like that exist since in gambling we can't say if we quit we lose since it will just pile up our possible losses and we might get pressured to win especially if we listen to the taunt and cheering up of your friends. Just enjoy the game since this will be more ideal to us and if we decide to quit at what ever cost then its good since it only means that we are aware about possible worst outcome that nay came to us and quitting is not sign of weakness but rather this is smart decision done by people especially when the activities they fo hurt them in financial aspects.

That's just a bullshit motivation, when you stop you are able to take full control of the bet, instead of continuing it until you are poor. Usually, the person who says this is so that he has friends who continue to gamble, and don't want to let other people control the stakes. Precisely when you are able to stop, either for a moment or long enough, it shows that person is better than an addicted gambler.

Now let's take this to a discuss; how correct is this statement? And is there any similar statement like that in your home-country that's popularly used among gamblers to encourage themselves from quiting gambling because they're losing?

Where I live these words are often heard, and in accordance with what I suspect that these words actually come from the mouths of gamblers who have lost everything. Until plunging others to experience the same fate, as naturally. To be honest, these words cannot be justified, instead of encouraging people to continue betting, I want to make this an example for anyone who wants to stop gambling.

I think if you quit and realize there are lots of opportunities to be rich without gambling, is a wise decision because you are not only putting yourself to pursue real happiness, but you also choose not to rush things which is a praiseworthy trait. There are lots of things to consider to continue playing and there are lots of risks to take but when you quit and decided to search the fun and other things that have a low risk to get addicted, then it would be nice for you to do so especially when you are a person who doesn't have enough money to live your life to the fullest.

"if you quit that's when you lose"

This is true, but we are talking about gambling here... if we don't stop/quit in some moments we can lose a lot more. Taking breaks is a good thing, in gambling and all other activities. I know that most of us have experience with "pushing too much", and we know it's a double-edged sword. We get carried away and we forget about "responsible gambling", and in most cases that turns out to be a bad decision.

There's nothing wrong with stopping or entirely quitting gambling. When losses pile up and it starts to harm your financial situation, it's better to give up than to sink even deeper.

I think this old adage or saying is not just for gambling, it might have been used for like in a business. But still though if this is for gambling then it could be wrong in my opinion. And most likely why there are a lot of gamblers losing money because they don't quit or stop when they have still have a lot of money and winning.

And then regret later because they made a bad decision and it became cyclical for them to go on and continue the next day even if their financial situation is not that good and so they sink deeper and deeper until they can't get back on their feet.

One thing most gamblers should understand is that gambling is a business and as such, these peeps would use all the marketing strategy method available so that they can keep their customers but like every gambling establishment would say that you should gamble responsibly, they would prefer you keep playing, because in that way, you keep them richer.
Know when to back out after a loss because the truth is, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose and it's not the amount of hope you give yourself that the next one will be the jackpot that would determine your winning.

Maybe I also often read and hear a similar saying, which reads:
Quote
"It's not shameful to lose to gambling, it's shameful to give up gambling."

But the statement was broken by other words of wisdom.
That is:
Quote
“In the casino, the rule of thumb is to keep them playing and to keep them coming back. The longer they played, the more they lost, and in the end, we got it all." casino.

My understanding for your statement ( "if you quit that's when you lose"). That is a person's repentance and identity, they realize that the casino will get everything. 'stop gambling' is a choice to live a normal and healthy life, not vice versa to lose.

"If you quit you are a loser" - that works only when you are trying hard to achieve something. I doubt that this can be related to gambling, as gamblers are not achieving, they are trying to earn. I think that in connection with gambling, it would be better to say "if you quit you are a winner", meaning you have beaten formed or rising addiction. That "if you quit that's when you lose" seems to be artificially created by casinos and play on human greed Cheesy Speaking about my country, the only statement that is used towards gambling is "beginner's luck".

Well, have anyone done the math?

Let's say you gamble $300 per day (yea, I know most people do not have that money) and you played every day for say 20 years... and then suddenly you win the Jackpot of say $2 000 000.  Roll Eyes

So... over 20 years you gambled away $2 190 000 to eventually win $2 000 000. (Remember... you win and lose, but you kept on gambling, so you lost whatever you won too)

Yes, it was a time killer and entertainment for some people.... but the more you play, the more you lose and the losses added up, eats into your big jackpot some day in the future.  Roll Eyes
You sound very optimistic it seems with your calculation. Your dream of making it big I hope comes true after 20 years. By the way 20 years is a big time and in today's unpredictable & uncertain world no one can guarantee what will happen next day. Gambling cannot be a way of life, it can be a choice of entertainment. Anyways your sarcastic calculation needed a sarcastic 😜 serious reply.

Quitting isn't a sign of weakness and defeat. Sometimes quitting means you are courageous enough to acknowledge the thought that it isn't for you and it isn't doing any good for you. I've encountered that phrase so much and I really think that it beings so many misconceptions because of the false positivity it brings. It isn't really wrong to stop what you are doing when you think you've already tried enough. If something no longer adds value to your life, then quitting is the safe thing to make. If you know when to stop and when to continue gambling then there's nothing to worry about because it's unlikely for you to fall for bad habits if you have self-restraint.

I think this statement should be used with everything else but not with gambling, because in gambling, you keep losing as long as you don't quit, it isn't a struggle to reach the top or get to a treasure that is untouched, the largest percentage of gamblers tend to lose more money than they manage to win even if they keep gambling for their whole lives, not every gambler can hit a jackpot that will earn them everything they've lost back and they will be at the same position where they started their journey.

So people shouldn't really take this as a motivation and keep gambling their money away because it doesn't apply to everyone and only a few out of millions manage to get life-changing amounts of money through gambling and you don't necessarily need to be one of those people.

Really ? This quote is just sarcasm for the gambler.

I'm a gambler, but also sometimes do sarcasm against other gamblers. Don't gambler using the quote, but using your financial economy and at least some streght to hold the tempted emotion especially while you are losing.

To make sure, not deposit, deposit and keep doing that.

It's popular remark for gamblers but I would agree with what the majority says, it's not true. When you quit if you have money then how will you lose then? It just make gamblers more addicted to it if you have this mindset in my opinion.

Everything is based on pure luck though, so you will not know what is going to be the outcome. And for the majority, maybe it's better to stop at some point and quit if you are winning and then just continue to play tomorrow, simply as that.

Not entirely correct although the reason to quit is because of losing is more higher than quit when profit.

If the gambler can't quit when they already make some profit, they will end up quit in losing because the longer you gamble, the higher chance you will lose due to house edge. You need to set up a realistic winning first, like quit after double or triple your money, if you quit only when you hit the jackpot, almost of your gambling activity will always in lose.
Everyone has a reason to quit not only because he lost or won the jackpot, I have never had a problem when I saw someone quit gambling because he had his own reason, moreover we never know what is someone's reason for gambling. after all, stopping gambling does not mean losing, in fact, they are winning, they can get out of gambling.

There is no defeat for someone who stops gambling let alone getting the jackpot, because people who can control themselves in gambling will be even better, because by controlling themselves so they don't play gambling all the time I think he is the winner, he can win himself from greed and emotion . I can control myself when playing gambling when to play when to stop gambling.

-snip-

This is a pretty reckless statement because just imagine if someone listened to this statement and really didn't give up even though he had lost a lot, it would not only destroy him but also the people around him because we know that people who are addicted to gambling will be more aggressive and have no common sense. So in gambling it's good to know the limits and when to stop. Because if someone keeps pushing to win, usually in the end that person will keep losing and won't get anything.

In fact that in my country and I believe in many others to be the opposite,if you quit you start not losing anymore as you don't gamble again. While when you gamble their futuristic hope of doing better in the coming sessions is just a false sense of security and false hope to make people get back to gambling. The best statement I know is "if you quit then you start winning" and there is solid reasonable logic behind this statement, when you quit the money that you would use for gambling go elsewhere and you don't lose money anymore, this for me and many others is a win situation.
