Wow. been a long time, but the card has apparently bottomed out and stabilized.  A recent article mentioned this as one of the most bizarre cards ever which may have brought in more buyers.  i have below if interested.

I didn’t even see this reply, not sure how I skipped over it. That’s a really good point you make about if you’re going to go that extra time consuming mile to make fake cards, you’d copy the signature best as possible. You of course ended up being right.



I agree. This is pretty bad. Makes you wonder what else nonsense is out there from them. .Fanatics not off to a great start with running a baseball card company. Just another reason for me to dislike them.

I see. I guess the problem with that now is we will never know. I understand these card forgeries are getting better but do you think if they were sent in to say PSA or Beckett for grading, would they catch it?

Could be but honestly I don't think topps would ruin decades of integrity for a randy arozerena auto fake, I mean at least make it from someone good 😅.

I'd bet 99% this is just a fake from easy or evay and not a box pull.  Unless I seen it coming straight out of a legit box I just can't see them throwing in awful forgeries.

I'm more inclined to believe that these are legit pulls from legit boxes. If someone were to go to the extreme lengths of making a very high quality forgery (of the card alone), then I'd expect them to take similar care with the autos and make them look just as authentic / high quality. The fact that the autos are so blatantly bad, suggests to me that the cards are real, but the autos, forged. Likely, a Topps employee (or team employee) was told to sign the cards in absence of the players. Whether the cards were signed this way with the knowledge and permission of both players is the question in my mind. The answer could ruin Topps as well as endanger the career of both players. Topps is screwed, regardless.

I'm suspect that they were pulled directly from a box.  There are auto forgeries all over the sport right now, with the card looking exact with the topps certified stamp and all.  Unless they are seen pulled from a topps box someone probably just trolling.  Or they generally bought them thinking they were real only to find out now they aren't.

The links to the threads shows the card a bit better as you can see. So you can see here it says on the card “Topps Certified Autograph Issue” which means of course they are stating that the cards came autographed directly from Topps.  Really fishy stuff.  I don’t think there’s any question as to whether these are forgeries or not.

This is definitely really bad.

Yeah we're these pulled directly from a box.  If not there are forgeries all over the place and isn't topps fault.  Would definitely like to hear if these actually were pulled directly from a box that someone can confirm.  If so this is beyond bad.  Maybe tag randy arozerena and see if just possibly he will respond.  My guess is second hand purchase on the old eBay.  Was it @chi?

something like that could collapse the whole company where trust is so important.  only excuse is if this is a total forgery from a third party.  i bet that is the case.

My buddy just sent this over to me and I wanted to see what you guys thought about it. I’m not sure if this was made before or after Fanatics bought Topps. Obviously not a very good look for Topps brand cards. Not a fan of Fanatics myself, so them buying Topps was crappy news for me personally.
