In Germany, for example, there is income tax that you are required to pay if you exchange/sell your coins for fiat after you have been holding less than a year. But if your investment is longer than one year, you pay no taxes after converting to fiat. In Croatia, that same time period is 2 years unless I am mistaken.
Every country is different, and regardless of the time period the government has benefited greatly from crypto taxes. The time period may provide a good choice for investors not to have to pay income tax, especially if these investors are long-term holders.

Regarding the OP's question, I'm starting to tend to think that long term investments are more profitable than short term investments. I mean, this investment would be great for multi years instead of just few months with less than 30% increments. Bitcoin is the one that interests me the most although diversification can also be considered for me.

on this matter of making long-term investment, the person needs to choose well for how many years they will be willing to hold or at what average price the person will sell, for example until a few years ago the price was 20,000$ and there were many people who bought it at this price of 20,000$ and that when the price reached 64,000$ they did not sell, thinking that the price would continue to rise a lot in the coming years, now see that the price is back to 20,000$, that means that if the person bought at 20,000$ 2 years ago and after 2 years the price reached 60,000$ and then dropped to 20,000$ while the person did not sell, so the person stayed for 2 years doing hold without making a profit, sometimes the person can even spend many years doing hodl and not have much profit

Histories of bull run's happen on bitcoin will determine all of it that this is good investment so those doubts coming from people looking only on bearish condition is not so valid because if they only look for short term for sure we cannot get the best result on it so doing a long term hold for bitcoin is really much advisable if we can't afford a short term trade because this one could give us more better result.
Long term hold guarantees that it is not going to be that much of a trouble with volatility neither. It could go down and up constantly, but since you are going to hold it for a long time, you do not have to care about it. Personally, I try to avoid this as much as possible and that does benefit me a lot. It gives me the chance to actually make a big change and allow me to ignore all these ups and downs.

I can definitely try my best on the current situation even though the price has been stable for a long time, but when it goes up, people will be going crazy and hyping it up, whereas I would be holding like nothing changed because I got it when they were afraid to get it.

i am a newbie in bitcoin, and i plan to buy bitcoin,, and will invest in bitcoin, and i want to ask everyone? if investing in bitcoin is it better short term or long term??? but in my opinion, long-term investment is better, but what do you think?
If you can buy Bitcoin in current state then I would say it must be a long term investment. Bitcoin's next halving will be in 2024, and Bitcoin is expected to reach between $100k and $200k there. However, we have seen the highest limit for Bitcoin at $69k Considering this aspect, you must make long-term investment. So those willing to invest in Bitcoin right now should buy Bitcoin and hold it for the long term.
Well, I don't thin so as nobody forced us to hold long-term or short-term for it will depend on us as an investor, might not know that next year they will sell their Bitcoin for some reason. And this is because not all investors can afford to do it as they are preferred short-term deals. But for me, I hold depending on the market situation as my basis until when I have to hold. Just think that if next year the bull season comes, people will certainly be selling their Bitcoin.

Personally, I would advice that investment in Bitcoin should be long term for serval reasons but the one that stands out the most is that a long term investment in bitcoin will lead to massive ROI.
Another important factor to consider is taxing. Depending on the country you live in, taxes can be higher if your are cashing out a short-term investment than if you do it on a long-term investment. If you intend to pay your taxes and not break any laws, of course.

I thought you already did?
around 2020. and at that time the price of btc had gone up, but even though the price had gone up, I still bought it because I saw good potential for the future..

Are you trying make people fool just to ask newbie questions, for what? merit? Repeated shitty discussion? Lol. You still "newbie to bitcoin" yet you already did discuss lots of time regarding bitcoin even investing on it.

For me personally, I still feel like a beginner, because in terms of my ability I am not yet reliable, even though I often buy bitcoins as you mean, and with the aim of posting that because I have new capital to invest in bitcoin. so it doesn't mean i never buy bitcoin. but just asking everyone, about short term and long term investment.

For bitcoin, short-term or long-term investment will be profitable, whichever method you choose is up to you, but we can't decide for you. If you have knowledge of trading then you can make short term investment with bitcoin to make profit but if you don't know about trading then holding is the right choice for you.

Since I am not good at trading I will choose to hold long term and in my opinion this is a good time to accumulate bitcoin and as you said you have money in hand, you should consider buying at this price to hold.

everything can be done depending on the initial goal when investing and definitely get benefits, I personally do both for the long term I save bitcoin for my child's future, short term I use it for trading take benefits to meet the needs of me and my family
but the name of investing in the long term will definitely be better than short term investments

I agree with your opinion, indeed short-term investment is also good, and will definitely be profitable as long as we can buy at the right time. and of course the most appropriate is to invest in two paths, namely long-term and short-term investments. sometimes I also always short-term investment when there is a good moment. but mostly I invest for the long term.
That is technically trading not investing.
In other words if you are analyzing the market and choosing a good entry and then an exit price that are very close to each other and you repeat that in small time frames then you are trading bitcoin not investing in bitcoin. That is also profitable but a lot harder and with more risks compared to an actual long term investment.

It depends on your target to take profits.
If you want to get a fast profit, choose a short-term. However, it seems more suitable for trading if you want fast profits. Daily or weekly trade will be the right option for fast profits. But the profits should be not as big as a long-term investment, depending on your capital as well. On the other hand, the long-term investment requires some years to take profits but you will have the chance to gain big profits. There are many members who already explained it previously, and you should understand how the potential to gain profits from long-term investment now. At the end of the day, what is your priority: fast profits or bigger profits?  Undecided

I know you're trying to know the best thing to do so you won't make the wrong investment but there's no way we can talk about cryptocurrency and never include Bitcoin.
When its long-term investment in crypto, Bitcoin is the best for this call anytime.

Wouldn't Bitcoin be more valuable and profitable if used for the long term? We understand very well that there is a bearish period and there will be a bullish period. And in the bearish era is the time to buy Bitcoin, while in the bullish era, we can get high profits. This is at least for the long term investment if we want to get high profits from the investment itself. However, this doesn't mean that Bitcoin is not worthy for the short term. In fact, investing in Bitcoin is always worthy for both short term adn long term, but longer time will probably ris eup more profits.
Agreed, and better choice is to move with the market. If the market is bearish, good to invest and hold for the long term. When the market is bullish it is time to hold and book the profit at the right time. Short term profiting could be out of the fluctuation and sideways movement of the market. Think of the users who invested a week ago has now booked their profit. As stated, in short the profits were minimal compared to the long term profiting.

All kind of crypto currency investment should be long term, unless you are investing in some coins that are trending or is being hyped. If those are the coins, then invest, make profit and sell quickly before the hype ends or else you will make some huge losses. But if it is bitcoin, then invest, keep holding, when the price drops, invest more to hold long term, when the price reaches your profit goal, sell it and enjoy your profit. Look at the charts. Zoom out and you will see that bitcoin is always profitable in the long run.
^Definitely right, only BTC can be trusted in a long-term investment, not on altcoin.
Altcoins are pure hype, especially for those who are new to this business, it is very risky to invest because we did not know what will happen in the future. We have read different altcoins that becomes dead after listing on exchange and some of them are exit scam and that is the reason we cannot randomly select new project. However, on the other hand, BTC was already proven and tested for how many years and when the new ATH will come everyone is very happy.

It is good to have Bitcoin as a long term investment in its early years.  But now I think investors should be adaptive and base their decision on whether to make Bitcoin a short-term investment or a long-term investment on the market movement.  So I think the selling price would be the indicative factor of whether you will have your Bitcoin investment for the long term.  For example, if your goal Bitcoin price is around $100k and 3 months after Bitcoin hit the target price, for sure even if you intend for a long-term investment, you will sell your holding since it already hit your target price.  So I guess forget about short-term and long-term kind of investments and make it more proactive by setting a target price instead.

Whatever happens, don't think about short-term investments. Anyway, the logic of the word investment, in my opinion, requires it to be for a long time. You should think this way not only for bitcoin, but also for other coins. In fact, not only for crypto coins, you should make all your other investments according to this logic. Take the amount you can out of sight from the money in your safe and completely forget about it after investing. You will have achieved good results in the future  Wink
Bitcoin is a good investment for long term and nothing else.
(....)
It still depends, when you say long term, how long it is, how many years/months?
There are also some people who are just lucky when they start to invest with Bitcoin and Bitcoin started to pump, they don't wait such a long time and they decided to take profits. But it still depends. I am not telling long term is not good, because that is what I am doing now. I'm a long term believer and investor of Bitcoin.
What I meant to say is that for long term like if there's a bull run but you were right it depends since I don't know what time or year and what is the condition of the market during that time when they bought bitcoin. But I'm sure every bull run the price will pump and that's the only time they can make profit then buying back again when the bear market come.

Someone should have a definitive plan after investing like what they're going to do or when should they sell to take profit but this will not come to them freely. Someone should know what they were doing with their investment and what are the pros and cons. It takes some knowledge to be able to survive in this kind of market.

Since you are considering investing, I assume you have an exit strategy. There is surely a goal or a magic number in terms of profit you have in your head. Depending on how fast the market moves to that zone determines the end of your investment plan.

If you are considering putting in $10.000 with the aim to profit another $10k and take home $20k, just wait until the market gets there. Maybe in a year, maybe in 5. So, long-term or short term doesn't really matter. But if you are considering speculating just to see what will happen in 3 or 5 years from now, just invest an amount you are comfortable with losing and leave it alone.

Life circumstances can change rapidly. When you are in dire need of money, selling at a loss doesn't seem like a bad idea.
This can also be assessed from the point of view that if you buy bitcoin at a lower price, then the goal of x2, doubling the invested funds, will be achieved faster. Although this is a dubious strategy, because with this point of view, you can constantly wait for the best time to buy.

If we take a period of 3-5 years to invest in bitcoin, then I think that this is a more reliable investment that will bring good profits. I invest in bitcoin and maybe even for a longer period and I hope that my investments will be profitable. And I am not ready to lose the money that I invest in long-term investments, this is an investment from which I expect big returns in the future.

The best approach is to engage Bitcoin in both long and short-term investments, this would help the investors to diversify their portfolios. Trading is very important to maximise the potential of Bitcoin earnings, so it is good to permanently hold half of the investments and always switch sides (buy and sell) with the other half based on daily or weekly speculations.

This plan is important because I don't believe in tieing my assets down for long while I could use them to make more money by buying and selling them at different market conditions.

In my opinion, both long-term and short-term investments are better. because by investing long-term, of course, it will produce very large profits, but if you invest short-term, of course we will also benefit, but the profit is not as big as long-term investments.
