I used the same seed as before and it worked. haven't send out anything yet, but will test that in a few minutes
They have strongly advised against using the same seed "Do I really need to generate a new seed? Yes. This is a safety precaution that we have taken to ensure that everything happens smoothly." ( source https://blog.iota.org/new-gui-transition-phase-explained-b536ed80f412 )
and on Slack Dominik Schiener repeated that it is mandatory to use a new seed for security reasons.

this was not an advice to use the same seed, just that I did it on accident as I didnt read the how to carefully enough. I just wanted others whom made the mistake to know that the IOTA are safe in this case and can be transfered to a new seed

It is required to use a new seed. You should create a new seed and send your coins to it. - https://blog.iota.org/new-gui-transition-phase-explained-b536ed80f412

well it worked with the same seed... but I will move the balance to a new 81character seed soon

now that the IOTA network has upgraded successfully after the snapshot, we have prepared a new GUI release for you all to guide you through the transition phase.-

GUI Download:  https://github.com/iotaledger/wallet/releases/tag/v2.4.0
- Instructions: https://blog.iota.org/new-gui-transition-phase-explained-b536ed80f412  (there is even a video)

For GUI wallets that run as a full node, please be advised that you have to delete your local database.

Hello friend.
I am presently running Iota Light Wallet 2.3.0 - IRI 1.3.0 and would like to upgrade.
To clarify, do I now run v2.4.0 to update.
Sorry for the newbie question.

hi anyone kind enough to explain this
Iota does not seek to replace the blockchain entirely, it also acts as a supplementation to the current blockchain ecosystem by acting as a oracle for smart contract platforms like Ethereum and Rootstock. Additionally it increases security of blockchains by enabling the ability to include checkpoints for transactions.
cant understand how this acts as an "oracle"

For instance, a sensor can run IOTA. The outside real time data collected by a sensor such as weather or vehicle data can be stored in Tangle which is IOTA's distributed ledger and transferred through IOTA to other systems like Ethereum and Rootstock. All you need is an interoperable bridge between systems. Basically it means that IOTA can feed immutable data to Ethereum and Rootstock in the place where Ethereum and Rootstock are not able to operate and collect data.

New IRI Version (for full-node operators only):

https://github.com/iotaledger/iri/releases/tag/v1.3

Quote
- added Kerl as an additional hash function.
- Tips: improved memory consumption and IRI loading time.
- ZMQ:  tx topic only publishes newly stored transactions
        tx arrival time added.
        timestamps normalized to seconds.
- DB: cache size increase, to reduce flushes to disk (user-configurable)
- Node: faster broadcast priority queue
DNS refresher is now user-configurable, for troubleshooting reverse-DNS issues.
- TipSelection: bugfixes & optimizations to MCMC.

First snapshot as a part of 3-step phasing to the final design of transaction structure

@here For all full nodes, we are releasing the newly updated IRI version ahead of the GUI wallet. Please get it from here and follow the instructions:

- *Download*: https://github.com/iotaledger/iri/releases/tag/v1.3
- Before upgrading to this version *ensure that your local database is deleted*. This means that your `mainnetdb` and `mainnet.log` folders are completely removed!
- Also make sure that your neighbors are upgraded before you restart the new IRI. Preferably you will get new neighbors from #nodesharing.

For ALL other users, wait for new GUI wallet release, delete old wallet, install new wallet, login with your old seed, press one button, finished  Grin

This is not a "claim", if you dont do anything nothing is lost!!!

I'm about to download, install, and setup the new wallet but would like to be sure of where I'm at first...
I had some amount of IOTA (say, 1000) for a long period of time.  Sitting synced in my wallet.  Within the last week, I've obtained and sent additional IOTA (say, 500) to my wallet.  Those IOTA appeared and I've had the wallet open and displaying that total balance ever since then.
My PC (Windows 10) just rebooted for some automatic updates. When I opened my IOTA wallet, I'm now seeing the original transaction amount and not the full amount that I expect to see.
It was originally showing 0 until I used the Attach To Tangle option.  Then the original (say, 1000) balance came in.  But the rest has not come back in yet.
I would obviously like for it to appear again at some point, but I don't know if that's a misguided expectation. Is there anything that I need to do in order to rectify the situation?  Is it as simple as waiting it out or are there steps that I should be taking?

Thanks for the suggestion.  The guide didn't really answer my original question, but I decided to go ahead with the upgrade.  It found the expected balance very quickly and they were all showing in the wallet GUI within a minute or so.

Yes, it is testnet. You can check the balance in each address in the snapshot report - https://forum.iota.org/t/snapshot-validation-8-august-2017/3333

still 101 mb of wallet,

is crazy size, when c# or rust version is going to be available?

make no sense to have 101 mb of executable for a damn simple GUI, i saw long 3D games of that size...
