FYI: Address generation scheme has changed.
Could you please elaborate. If I used an address generated by original algo on collect.iotatoken.com to claim Iotas, are they lost now?

No. Upon the first launch of wallet you'll get an option to transfer iotas from old address to new one opened with the same seed.

But I lost the piece of paper I had the address on so only had the fact that it started with Z and account was just under 1btc to work with... actually I'm fairly sure I'm right because I obvs kept my seed safely and i tested that when you posted instructions for it, my seed worked on the address, so all is good for me I thnk.

But, my point is that one or two people are bound to discover a mistake once the GUI is out no? That seems very unfair given the fact they would not have lost out if they have known sooner, if the GUI had been out even close to the expected timeframe.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here... partly because it is possible I've messed up, but mainly because anyone that has done so will be furious and with 11m unclaimed there's a good chance one or two people have.

Obviously I'll respect whatever decision, but I do think you might be opening the door to creating a couple of very angry and justified complaints... if you'll handle them as they come then fair enough, if you'll tell them 'tough titties' then I think you should wait until GUI... personally. Smiley

100% fool-proof systems are impossible, so at some point we have to stop. In our case those who lost a piece of paper with the address and didn't regenerate it were sacrificed.

I think we have to wait to distribute the iotas don't we?

I mean the GUI was promised for ages before the end of the deadline.

I'm a techo-tard and not at all certain that I have done things correctly or correctly identified my account/balance.

What if it gets to the GUI and someone (like me) has made a mistake/ misread an address and thought it was theirs and it turns out they didn't claim correctly.

I can understand not caring about people who haven't bothered to check on the project, but what about those of us who do care and check daily, but might have made an error we wont discover until gui is out? We invested under the impression that we would have our coins by now, it's not fair to say we might have them taken away if we made a mistake with lcaiming or verifying the claim.

imo there should be a freeze until the GUI is out. Until then none of us can be 100% certain we have our coins can we? One or two people are bound to have made a mistake. :/

Checking snapshot is enough.

@ Devs

Is it an IDEA to give an equal amount of IOTA from the unclaimed IOTA to all the stakeholders for an amount of BTC for each portion?

In this way There will BTC flowing in the foundation and the community is blessed with more IOTA Smiley

Nice article about internet of things!:

In the terms everyone agreed to when participating in the crowdsale they had 90 days to collect. We set this limit because 3 months is more than enough for anyone with a genuine interest in IOTA to claim them. We gave an extension of 1 week for a couple of late claimers. If someone has not shown an iota of interest in IOTA for 3 months straight, they frankly don't deserve it or need it.

The iotas are going towards the project, no freeze.
5 million goes to the foundation, 5 million to Jinn development and the rest to immediate projects like a professional new website, a professional 2 min video explaining what IOTA is and what it is for and some other tasks.

Thank you.

That's a good decision to stick to the rules: Best way to assure fairness and legal certainty.

The project must not simply ignore what was accepted by all, thus recreating ad hoc rules as we go.

The community does not have to be subject to this kind of uncertainty, as demanded by some, for the sake of a few people who are late and unable to comply with their own duty according to the pre existing and fully known plan.

do what you want CfB, it's your 'company', let history judge, I might be wrong, maybe crypto investors don't care about these things.

I have no obligation to IOTA investors, but I will feel sorry for the ones who have their money confiscated

Bullshit. dormientibus non socurrit jus. Not following the pre established and accepted rules would equal sabotage.

@CfB, could you post the important information in the OP, not everyone has time to read the posts one by one.

What info is important from your point of view?

I don't decide what the company will do, it was just my suggestion. For profit companies should do their main business, not charity.

PS: "Confiscated" is a wrong word here.

Yes, you had terms & conditions, so it's nothing ethically based, you're just doing what you said you would ... I understand the logic

I disagree though, companies should be held accountable for more than just doing business and making investors money. They don't have to be charitable, but they should act fair and reasonable. Let's see who turns up in the future with what explanations for not claiming their IOTA. It is possible some will have provable justification for not claiming, and you will regret this decision personally as a human being, and business wise for the bad PR smell it might create. The unclaimed IOTA is a temptation, and the terms & conditions 'cover' you, so you can do what you planned.

Accidents and unforeseen events are not covered by terms and conditions.

Whoever takes part in such a venture would have to take precautions for an event that would prevent them from collecting, i.e. tasking a trusted person with collecting instead of themselves if they would be incapacitated in some way.

By the way... I don't remember my own BTC address, how I can say something about my who knows... friend's BTC address  Huh Huh Huh

If you don't have the private key of a BTC address, you cannot prove that you own it.
it was matter about address not about pass

it was matter that I cannot see the list with huge number of digits and say! : Oh My God! This is BTC address of my friend..

2.4 Unclaimed IOTA. If you do not claim all of your Resulting Distribution within 90 days
following the date we make it available to you, you may begin to permanently lose access to or
control over some or all of the Resulting Distribution.

Everything else is non mandatory kindness.
Depending on the story of the poor guy that will show up, I might donate him his initially invested BTC.
On the other hand, if I threw money at random projects and remembered after a year, I would tell a sad story too to get my 'hard earned' profits.
