No doubt it is being used for many illegal actions. They can freely just send money without being traced. Could also pay up with little by little to avoid being monitored. They wony need bags and travel it to their trading place which will be risky.
bitcoin is can be used for illegal doings as long it has value its still money. It can buy destructive arms and can pay for hoodlums to do bad things.
Since it is still good as fiat,it depends on holder whether he sued it for good or for illegal.
This is also one of the reason why some countries or states are proposing to regulate bitcoin or other digital/cryptocurrencies,that is - to curb the illegal activities online.By regulating,it also like they are going to control on this currencies and possible anonymous transaction could be not possible anymore.

will this hurt bitcoin in the long run , will governments ban this just like they started to do wih paying in cash for some services

Majority of the member in this industry I know they used their bitcoin for legal purposes including myself of course. Even others are doing something which is not good whether they used it for illegal matters it is their free will to decide what there gonna do to their bitcoin.
BItcoin is a tool and can be used both ways, legal or illegal. Just like a gun, it can be used to protect people and can also be used to kill people. The government should not ban bitcoin because it is being used illegally. What they should do is to provide laws that will prevent people using bitcoin for bad things without compromising the good things bitcoin can do.

yes mate i heard that too, here in my country since btc is not that popular yet those drug dealer taking the advantage of it, but suddenly they been caught by our local police because the transaction that they made has been trace using the local exchange.All this information can be used against you, and linked to you in case you have verified your ID in order to make use of that specific exchange.
There are plenty of ways to get your coins converted back and forth without using exchanges, but probably they weren't aware of it. Dumb people.

Bitcoin for transactions to distributed drugs, that is very mostly serious problem. You are absolutely right, because bitcoin is anonymously and it transactions also anonym. No one knows the real people that makes a transaction in bitcoin.
The other illegal activities in my region is playing Gambling with bitcoin as well. In my region playing Gambling or games related with that is illegal, moreover that illegal activities most found in internets, online gambling.

Authorities should make their job to capture the criminals but not to stop bitcoin, any currency can be use for illegal activities and even fiat. Bitcoins are not used for illegal activities and if you call gambling a illegal activity, since its banned in some countries then well, I am sorry but your thinking is stubborn and hilarious. because come on, how can you stop someone from having fun with his money the way he wants.
