I really believe eth will never die, shifting investors from eth to another altcoin is just an alternative, no one really removes eth from their asset list, when eth has completely finished with the problem of high gas costs, for sure eth will again be the first choice.

If Ethereum doesn't solve this problem, new users will choose the low cost of blockchain especially BSC or TRX blockchain. Etherreum is the 2nd largest cryptocurrency, available right now from the point of view of market cap. It is there for many years now and will be there in the future as well. The popularity of ETH has been slightly reduced mainly due to the high gas fees but if that matter is solved, ETH will attract more supporters in the future.

ETH is the greatest potential and the second-best choice in my opinion and I have never doubted the fundamentals. I am sure Vitalik has thought about it long before this problem was born and what is certain is that everything has a process to unravel the congestion as you mentioned and according to the expectations of its users.
Eth will never die, there is no need to argue about it, there are still many projects taking from the ETH platform, and as long as there are many investors who hold ETH and as long as there is circulation in the ETH market, he will still be alive and growing.
Yes, Ethereum developer's should be solve this problem soon, if does not solve this high transaction fee and network congestion, many user of crypto will go for other alternatif of smart contract platform because many others offer better benefits. Others smart contract platform already possible to handle athousand transaction persecond with fee very low. Just like Solana, Cardano and Polygon which the price keep rally because many user of crypto enthusiastic with the product.
I noticed that the transaction fees on ethereum blockchain is not always very high. One needs to only monitor the gas station to know the best time to commence the transaction. I was able to process a transaction at less than 50 Gwei few weeks ago. This may be far higher than we used to have it few years back when transactions were completed with as low as 1 Gwei. I learnt that the ethereum developers working on scalability have gotten a head way and before long the issue of high transaction fee would be resolved.
Ethereum is the second best digital currency in crypto space. Despite of the higher gas fee, many people still using it. Maybe this time others are looking for an alternative way to make a transaction with lower gas fee but the dev behind Ethereum also busy for developing Ethereum and finding solution for the higher gas fee. It won't, as there are lots of tokens/coins that already been created using this chain, from them, even there's a
high transaction fees they are willing to pay just to continue using the chain, and for sure the team behind ETH
will work it out and find the best way to continue competing with other projects such as BSC and ADA to name

The reason it will not die is because the eth dev team is continuously finding ways on how to improve their system. Vitalik, who is the head of this platform is very visible to public. And his recent move, transferred those shib tokens and others to charity, he gained more respect from the community.
