It's as safe as the amount of preparation, research and care you put in it. With a decent amount of effort you can weed out the scams.

I guess, for me, not entirely safe since there are some icos out there that are pure scam. Though this is quite rare,
We still have to be extra careful when joining icos. Before we invest or join an ico, we must first check the project and research about it so we will know if its legit or a scam. Although there are some that we cannot really tell either that is why investing or joining icos requires risks.

Right now there are many ICOs coming out, is it really safe to participate in any of it and spend that much? In participating ICOs I have high hopes that these coins could be the next Bitcoin or other currencies that are really going up in the market.
It is actually taking our own risks in participating ICO's. Doing a lot of research about the dev team, purpose of project or even reading the whole project details will do but not all because there are other promising ICO's out there that turns out to be a scam in the long run. They just appeared to be active when luring it's victims but when they got investors trust and chances they would run away with our investments and abandone the project in just a blink of an eye so let us be vigilant. But my question is "How do we know and pinpoint legit and scam ICO's? Is it like finding our luck when it comes to ICO's that really is a legitimate one? I do agree that there should be a regulation implementation on ICO's for our safety.

Participating in ICOs require a lot of due dilligence or what we call base line studies. But you call fall on inside forum like the bitcointalk and some special slacks and telegram pages to know which altcoin is doing well. I always ask people to check the background of the developers before they get into the sales and buying or participating in this ICos to put it short. It requires a little bit of reading especially the ICO whitepaper, if carefully read and understood will show you the potentials of the currency

Actually it is safe but sometimes we also never think suddenly there ico which is only a scam and absolutely no benefit at all. But I instead make it as a motivation to keep trying hard in pioneering income in the future.

It will be safe for you if you will be careful in joining in icos, because many ico's were making an appearance to the cryptocurrency world. And many news that many scams were happening.People were being scam because they are not being careful in joining ico's and not having an research. So be careful. It will be in yours if you will be careful in joining it will be safe.
it is hard to know first what and which will be the scam so for me you have to study before you participate as long that there is money involve scams are anywhere you can avoid if you are victim by it but not all the time so make yourself that you have nothing or you don't have any shortage of studying of it.

oF Course if you read the whitpaper and look at the team behind the ICO, if the team indicated as scammer avoid the ICO if not you will make big profit, I invest coss and RVt, SCL and some others now the tokens price are growing. it is better than HYIP.

You are right, lately a lot of ICOs coming out, most of them are usually verified whats means that you can easly invest in. But little part is a SCAM.How to find SCAM ICOs? It is not do easy, for sure easier to describe than to do. You have two opportunities, make really good research if you are experienced in crypto, or just trust others who SHOULD it do before you. Maybe new ICOs wont be as huge as Bitcoin but we can be confident that some of them will gain great growth.

There are a lot of new ico's everyday, and it is difficult to only choose one, because they all promise a lot of things but at the end, they all are the same.. they only want to raise a lot of money from the owners, and then make a new "tradeable coin" trying to call it a succesfull project, and it is plenty of them, you can make profit from that, of course, but it is risky.
I dont join ico's, i prefer to hold my money on safe coins that are below top 20.

You shouldn't think that investing in ICO's are safe, all types of investments are risky and in ICO's you don't have an idea on many investors will be investing to that project and will support it's crowdfunding. Because there are a lot of scammers that are hiding in the veil of ICO and their very own purpose is just to scam people and they are now into ICO's. Beware of those developers that are leaving the project after the success of ICO.

You are completely right, joining in ICO is similar to joining in IPO, which are both high risk investment, there are different kinds of scams, but the only thing you can do is trying to do more research before joining in.

Since you have mentioned IPO, I haven't seen any IPO today but only last year. It is because that ICOs are even more popular than IPO's. Whatever you choose just make sure that you will always have the key to the investment that you will try to take the risk. There's nothing wrong to take the risk as long as it's legit and it's not a scheme that close to a scam, secure yourself by educating yourself first.

The short answer to your question is that it is not safe to invest in ico's because most ico's fail within their first year. There will be another coin that will want your money after the ico is done.

ICO can not be said to be safe because it's a high-risk way of fundraising. Never invest anything you can’t completely afford to lose. Keep in mind that due to a lack of regulation, you will have difficulty getting back your lost money in case of any failures.

It is safe as long you own your private key and you don't invest in the scam ICO. If you want to participate, look for these dev Yahoo, darkstar (Bitcoin signature campaign) which pay you weekly and amount of btc according to your rank while look for these dev Sylon, Irfan pak, Avirunes, needmoney which pay you more a month with tokens. These devs are nice to work with, you'll guarantee that the ICO they're holding will pay you on the right time.
i think wee cannot blame all the icos, because there ae so many ICOs who have already given good profit to people. But still there are some ICOS which taken the investment of the people and they proved as scam, so it is too much important to have good study about the ICOs first and then should invest money there.

Some are reliable, some are scammer. The most important is to find a good project
if you find a good project you can make money in really good quantities
The question is, how you can find a good project between biased profile and background of the developers and the project. Many people above have saying the same thing about how to choose a good project to invest, but unfortunately, not 100% right. Sometimes, a project with legit devs, only leave the coin that they offer and grab their money, they don't care about the future of their coin
that's what we will avoid, many dev in coin scam who do not care about the future of their coins that he wants is to carry the run of funds that they have got from many investors, therefore look for ico who have a forward view and serious of the future coin / their project, for example from the roadmap is clearly, a mature plan for what they will do after pre-ico, after ico, etc
