I didn't even know there was a hard fork planned.

-MarkM-

I believe the bip's will cause a hard fork.  They change the rules for adding blocks in certain situations.  We shouldn't take it lightly.  It would be very bad if iXcoin splits in two.

The block number at which they come into effect would be many months into the furure though wouldn't it?

I do agreee though that it is crazy to muddy up the merged mining test with such extraneous stuff.

We need merged mining. BIPs are way the heck less important, not worth aborting the moving to new codebase for.

Basically we should port what IXCoin already was to the new codebase first and make sure that works, before adding new BIPs or coloured coins or anything else that IXCoin doesn't already have/do. Well the memory fix stuff from I0Coin of course, since if it wasn't for the need of all merged mined coins to get that fix we wouldn't be in any hurry to update to new code at all. We don't want to break stuff we just want to fix the RAM problem the merged mined coins all had in common.

-MarkM-

Agree with you that the BIPS or colored coins will have to wait.  That is why I had originally thought of doing this  with the next release of Bitcoin.  But it appears that there is so much legacy here that we are forced to be conservative.

How much more bounty do we need to get iXcoin upgraded to 0.8.6 without the BIPs plus anything else needed so all the miners will start using it?  The latest 0.8.6 beta is like 95% complete.  It should just need a few tweeks.  Is it the bounty we're waiting on or something else?

It really is up to the pools to take the existing code and run it on their servers.

Anybody can make use of the 0.8.6 client if they want.    Worse case is the BIPS filter out certain transactions,  but that is a non-issue really.   It all depends on what transactions the pools add to a block.

I for one don't give a damn about all this 'conservative' talk about forking... that make sense with a coin like Bitcoin... but a coin like IXC that's just trying to stay afloat?  Total B.S. in my opinion.   Same kind of idiotic logic with IXC owners keeping all coins to themselves and sending just scraps for donations.

I buy 300,000 Ixcoin for $135 who can sell?

Roll Eyes I'll buy 1 million for $600

Koby has the most pure-hearted ambition to get rich that I've seen on this forum.  Hang in there, Koby.  You should put your coin addresses in your profile.

I see Counterparty and Bitcoin are having some trouble.  Some Bitcoin devs and miners are choosing to look at Counterparty as a freeloading parasite rather than a legitimate value-adding  layer.

Interesting ideas of harnessing cross-chain synergies, or migrating to other blockchains if Bitcoin proves too hostile.

As Frictionless suggested, IXC might have an opportunity here as Bitcoin's "twin".  The only thing is that the hostility towards CP might cause Bitcoin miners to harm IXC, dropping it from merged mining, or attacking it as CoiLedcoin was.

I don't think it will be a problem with iXcoin.  iXcoin is on a different block chain,  so CounterParty functionality doesn't bloat the Bitcoin blockchain.

It looks like we are headed back to july 2013.

I can only say what I see:

On july 1 btc = 26-28k ixcoin
On august 1 btc = 16-18k ixcoin

The GH/sec (from 15 to 30-35k GH/sec) went up along with the difficulty (from 1.5 to 3 M)

If this is a dying coin, well, it is really a healthy zombie.... Grin

Oh well.  I pleaded for donations to make IXC competitive.  Well it fell on deaf ears.

The guy who started this thread.... never delivered the bounty.

This must be the longest TODO thread ever!

On the exchange front.  Kraken just got $5 million in finding from guys like Barry Silbert.

I say that makes them very legit and any "lost" coins would be covered.  I just emailed them to add IXC.  Everyone should do the same as they'll end up being a major exchange.

NewsFlash:

Mt Gox just found 200,000 Bitcoins.

What a laugh.

I said a week ago when they brought in those 2 outsiders that they were not merely advisers but they were there to take the 2 empty board seats.  The board will prove to have lied to us in the next few months.

I also said they were being placed by the $80 billion Koch brothers and that in return for 2 vacant board seats they would refund the missing $500 million in Bitcoins.

And lo and behold, just a week later Karpeles finds 200,000 Bitcoins like one finds a missing pair of socks.

Lol, watch more coins turn up soon and within 2-3 months the 2 outsiders will definitely take the empty board seats.

This is good because the Koch bros are anti big governments and anti Obama so they'll stop the attempted govt takeover of Bitcoin.  The bad thing is that people will eventually see this and will look for a more decentralized coin and ixCoin fits the best.

The bad is that the govt and banks must know that this war with the Koch Bros is gonna take years to win and they don't have that kind of time so they should then move into IXC and I personally think they already had IXC set up as plan B; just in case some unforeseen problems would arise with Bitcoin.

I don't really care since I saw these coins for what they really were from day one.  So hang on, the most powerful and richest men on the planet have ascended on CryptoWorld and there's gonna be some massive moving and shaking in the coming months as they battle for position within the next global monetary system.

HUGE gains coming for certain coins and Bitcoin should at least blow thru $2,000.

Like Clockwork:  They just found the rest of the "missing" Gox coins.

Next up:  2 Outsiders will get the 2 vacant Bitcoin board seats.  Bought and paid for.

Some coins are already trading again, including, strangely, someone offering high price for litecoins.

It is up again now.

The claim apparently is that any new deposits won't be confiscated?

So if anyone uploads some new BTC, LTC etc tradign could begin again.

If they don;t though there won't be anyone to sell to...

-MarkM-

How do you know that?

They just froze the BTC from accounts that were deposited *after* they got hacked.

What makes you think they won't need more BTC?

They said ahead of time it would go down for half an hour to run the frozen balances stuff so maybe it will come back up soon with the freezing done and all buy orders denominated in the frozen coin types cancelled.

-MarkM-

Dude... you act like everything is okay with Vircurex.

The exchange is insolvent.   Pull everything out of the exchange.

I made the blunder of remembering your tip about keeping some BTC there to earn 'interest'.  My bad!

This is bad news for IXC, Vircurex has been a major exchange for trading iXcoin.  We really need a top notch replacement as soon as possible.

Edit:

I just went to vircurex and their entire site is OFFLINE.  I thought they only restricted 4 of the coins in there.  Now the whole site is offline?  What's going on?

I had 250,000 iXcoins in Vircurex cause I had heard of an imminent IXC pump and thought I may need to sell some coins if the price got high enough.  This is UNREAL!!!!!

You did not pull it out?  Of what use is the IXC in Vircurex if any BTC you sell will be confiscated?

Vircurex is in Poland.  I know cause I wired them money last year when I bought my first crypto coins: Devcoin.

CoinDesk also said Vircurex froze all their coins and then listed just 4 coins. Obviously a very poorly researched article.

All the news outlets are reporting that Vircurex is coming out of Beijing China.

Which is kind of strange since they have a USD/EUR exchange.

Lat I heard,  Vircurex have removed all withdrawals for all coins.  If you got IXC in there, my sympathies.
